Is self care still considered as a "bad perk"?

I personally think that self care can help you in hardcore situations. If you drop your med-kit, or you don't have one, you forgot one, or you didn't bring it and need to heal asap. I want to know why people think that self-care is an irrelevant perk? I've always noticed how people regret not having self-care but still hate it. Since I am a new player I might not understand why people believe that. I've been playing dead by daylight for over 3 weeks, and. I still don't get it. I'd really like to know why people like to consider self-care as a "bad perk"?

I don't see it as a bad Perk, sometimes it's really useful, but most of the time it's just a time waster.

The perk itself is fine, its the mentality of alot of its users. Its better to spend 32s on a generator than it is spending 32s healing. As you've said, a medkit would achieve the same result as selfcare, but will do it faster, so much faster.

Then theres the playing injured mentality. Being injured isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is, so you dont need to be healed right away. Heal when its convenient, when the killer has little pressure going on.

Self care aint irrelevant, its still a damn fine perk, but a medkit will always do its job better, and there is no reason to not bring a medkit (unless you want a key/map instead)

Of course, botany knowledge along with leader, resilience, desperate measures and others I'm probably missing all increase the self healing speed too. Self care at base is 32s, with botany it becomes 24s. There is of course diminishing returns, stacking all the perks won't make the heal instant, but certainly faster.

However, it soon becomes a case of too many eggs in one basket. If you run self care and botany knowledge, you're using half your perks on something that a medkit can already do faster. Theres an opportunity cost to each perk, using one means you're not using another

Of course, since im assuming you haven't got every perk from every survivor (since you say you're new) botany/selfcare are still brilliant perks for the new player. Run it alongside kindred and spinechill and you have a fine build.

And if you want to be someone who heals others, get We'll Make It (the perk that gives 100% healing speed after a unhook). Once you have an exhaustion perk like sprint burst, lithe or deadhard, swap out botany and selfcare with that and We'll Make It

The issue of self-care comes down to what happens when you use it with no med-kit. The time to heal takes way too long, and that's time that could be well spent on an objective. Yes, you do get to heal faster with a med-kit, but at that point you'd be better off with a yellow or higher med-kit with add-ons.

Not to mention the stereotype of self-healing Blendettes who hide in a corner of the map healing themselves while their teammate dangles from a hook.

Self-Care itself is honestly an alright perk, the problem with it however is that a LOT of people don't know when to use it and when not.

There's a reason why the meme of Claudettes self caring in a corner while the whole team is dying exist.

Self care can be good, although I personally just keep a medkit around instead. It's not bad by any means though. I think the primary logic is that it takes more time to heal yourself rather than have someone heal you which in one sense is true but people neglect to consider having two people working on a single heal (the healer and injured person) takes away 2 people from doing one gen rather than self care just preoccupies one person for a little bit.

Selfcare essentially allows the most effective use of time if someone is already working one a gen or near one

I agree with all of you, but I also want to ask that. Adding botany knowledge etc. Increases the healing speed? I find it faster then before. I don't like letting my teammates die or be chased while I am wasting time healing. If the killer is being distracted I'll quickly rush to a gen and get it done while the killer is distracted. I also like to get a hit and save my teammates from hooks. I'll heal them as soon as their stopped being chased or whatever. I know it's a waste of time, but being a newer player I don't really have the tenique to cut chases simultaneously or tbag the killer yet. So I usually get hit and sometimes drop my items too. So it's nice having something that could heal me at any times. Although even I hate wasting time healing, if the killer isn't even near or even if it is then even if there's a gen there, then there's no reason to run or heal. O just like self-care because it's like a back-up med-kit.

depends on the person who uses it. if youre the average self care user who goes to the other side of the map just to heal against sloppy butcher, start using iron will or inner strenght. it can be good in a lot of situations where time isnt your main concern, for example the killer is guarding the exit gate and you are injured. use self care. i dont use it but it can be good in certain situations

But botany knowledge etc. Perks can heal you faster and also there's times when you don't have anyone around or the only other person alive is being chased or whatever. You do come across these situations often atleast for me who has trash teammates. Although I agree with all that you said. I just like knowing that I always have a back-up med-kit at all times.

Yeah thats certainly a viable thing to do and not all that rare of a thing. Me personally I'm not as into it but I can see why others would like it. I believe TydeTyme uses those together all the time

It use to be great on it's own. But at the moment I'd say it's one of those perks that needs a combo to shine like Dance with Me.

I am currently trying to level my Claudette up. She's level 27 and my rank is 21 think. But yes I am new. Thanks for the build it's simple and I have the perks required for it.I love unhooking and healing players, it gets me points and the most important part is that the team's odds of surviving increases. I'll be indeed using your build. Thanks.

That's what I've learnt exactly from this discussion. It helped me alot. And I'll definitely use it more efficiently.

It's a good perk that is bad on bad survivors because they use it when they should not.

Np dood, claudette is a very good starter survivor too, just dont get tempted to prestige when you hit level 50. And with your mindset, you're one of the few survivors out there who'll actually make a good teammate

The problem with the perk is how long it takes you out of the game. In the time it took for you to Self-Care you could have done almost half a generator. It's insane how long it takes without Botany or something.

Throw in Sloppy Butcher, which is a super common Killer perk, and it takes something like 42 seconds. It's agonizingly slow. I personally try not to heal myself or someone else unless I have some kind of boost going on like a Medkit, double-teaming the hurt Survivor, We'll Make It, etc.

It is a good perk, but not really good (meta). It just has a bad reputation because it is not used often by mainly inexperienced survivors. And the way it is used by newer survivors is not the best or more efficient way to use it.

im using inner str, its faster (im doing bones anyway)

but selfcare isnt bad, BUT big chunk of bad players are using it (in bad way on top of it) and for a lot of players looking at those P3 claudettes going to map corner (waste time) just to press m1 for 32 sec (waste time) and go back (waste time)

i bet if you would see good players with SC (and only those) you wouldnt feel that bad about perk BUT most of those players doesnt mind being injured (newer players do)

Self care isn't a bad perk per say. I prefer inner strength. It's faster and you actually need to do something that helps the match to activate it. Self care is good if you know that no one can help you at that point.

what annoys the hell out of me is when you see people self care right in front of you when you could heal them faster. but nope they're just gonna sit there and self care. or when they're self caring over in a corner and not coming to help you off a hook when the killer is nowhere near you
