What thing were you wrong about when it came out?
This is a thread for us to discuss things that we thought were useful and turned out to be garbage, or we thought were garbage and turned out to be quite good. I'll start with an example of the latter.
I thought the Pig's traps were a non-threat due to the long timer. However, having experienced them on particularly large (or confusing) maps, I can see that the timer barely gives you enough time to check all the boxes if the map is big enough.

I thought Coup de Grace would increase movement speed which would allow for more distance.
Instead the lunge lasts longer allowing for more distance.
It's also quite restricted, so my excitement went from a wrongly-assumed 100% to 0%.

I thought that Built to Last and Desperate Measures would be widely used, but i barely see either of them :/
I also thought that holding Victor hostage against the twins would ruin her entirely, but i welcome any survivor to do that now. Knowing where they are all the time, and knowing 100% they arent doing anything important makes being an m1 killer not that bad

I thought Kate's perks were all going to be atrocious. Turns out, Dance With Me can be pretty decent in certain builds, Windows of Opportunity is a very solid aura-reading perk (especially in solo queue), and while Boil Over is not strong, it can certainly be effective on maps where the aura blocking is likely to be a factor (e.g. Hawkins).
I also thought Spirit was going to be a lot weaker and harder to play than she ended up being.

I thought power struggle would be new meta for swf squads

I was certain that Deathslinger would need some buffs to be good when he released (for example, I wanted each spear hit to decrease DW timer) but I was wrong.
When I began to main him and got better with him, I learned he's already extremely strong killer when played well, he doesn't need any buffs at all.

Forced Penance sounded entirely pointless leading up to the release of PH. I just could not wrap my head around “why?!?!”
But after spending the amount of time I did in my attempts to get PH adept and unlock his teachables, I fell in love with Forced Penance, and it’s now one of my most used perks. It surprisingly procs far more often than many (I guess) presume it would.
It’s one thing for a survivor to choose when they do or do not heal, but entirely different when that choice is denied to them completely. I’m of the opinion that how short chases are matters much, MUCH more than slowing gens down. Keeping survivors in a one hit, easier to track state dramatically shifts a match for many M1 killers. And it’s buff from 60 to 80 seconds has me loving Forced Penance even more.

I thought Dragon's Grip would be meta. I still wouldn't say it's a terrible perk but it's nothing special.

When I was beginning the game, I thought Corrupt intervention was useless. But now, it's the one perk I always make sure to include in my killer builds.

Oh man but it does feel extra good insta downing those cocky survivors that jump right back on a gen before I’m even 3 metres away from it.

This first chapter I ever experienced was Nightmare on Elm Street, as it was the first chapter released when I started playing. I thought Freddy was so good because I couldn't see him, and how his aura reading needed to be nerfed. Thankfully I got put in my place by more experienced friends.

I thought the hillbilly nerf was huge and gutted him
Then I played him

That Blight would be playable on console.

I have fun but he is noticeably worse

When I first started playing I thought that all character unique perks should stay exclusive to their characters

I used to think DeathSlinger was bad when I saw him in the PTB, but people who were calling him bad were just not good at him. Tried him out for myself wasn't to good my first few games with him, but once I got better I saw how insanely strong he can really be. Also remember how nobody complained about DeathSlinger?

When the PH nerfs went live I was convinced that nothing would change because his annoying, easy uncounterable antiloop technique was still totally viable, but suddenly every third trial stopped being PH.
Which shows what I know, I guess being very slightly harder to pull off made him way less popular.

I thought Power struggle would be overpowered but it's garbage and nobody uses it. Same with Soul Guard.

I thought the last killer would be Billie Eilish, but they Trickster’d me.

Haunted grounds would be a meta perk.

It technically was, before the Ruin nerf it was the to-go perk if you wanted your ruin to last a bit longer.

I thought Plague would be OP. Then we learned to simply never cleanse so she can't use her power.
I also thought Blight would be weak and boring but he is actually fun to use and can be viable.
Slightly off topic. Maybe we should make a similar thread titled "How many times did you say that patch was a bad idea and you turned out to be right?" lol

That dedicated servers would stop the complaints about lag switching killers. Now they call them VPN killers.

I thought twins were bad. They really are not.

I always thought Myers could never be replaced by GF.
I was wrong.
Wish I played against Myers way more often than I play against funny mouth.

Dragon's Grip. I thought it was op and every killer would use it, but I think I've seen 2 people use it, and that's only because they were going for adept.

I thought the new sabo introduced in the deathslinger patch was going to be absolutely broken
it's equal if not worse to the old sabo. Basically useless unless you dedicate a whole build to it.

I Thought plague was going to be the next s tier killer. She is against potatoes but Good survivors deny her the abulity by not cleansing
