Can't think of a reason to keep playing this game.

Let me start this out by saying I have only 600 hours into the game, and about 550 of it is playing killer, though I've been playing it since a month after it's release. I've taken breaks from the game for months at a time, gotten to rank 1 killer a handful of times, seen the awful state of balance the game has been in for years, all the choices the devs have made both good and bad.

Now I'm at this point where, at rank 7-8. And this game still feels just as awful to play as it did back in 2017-18. I'm completely unable to play killers that aren't nurse or pyramid head or spirit due to getting completely stomped by persistent rank 1 swf groups. Every game, back to back to back to back there are these groups that will spam badham / haddonfield / corn maps. The very few matches without these swf groups, there's always at least 2-3 red ranks while I remain at purple playing the killers I actually want to play being ######### like Pig, Trapper, Demo.

Yet the matches that do go in my favor are always ending with hatches and keys. I can't go 5 games without seeing a red key and 2 people leaving via hatch. Or being forced to slug the second to last person to find the last so we don't have to go on the hatch scavenger hunt.

The game isn't fun to play, it isn't entertaining or challenging to go up against these swf groups and red ranks without a way to reset or even slightly lower my current rank so I don't get paired up against these people without just 'waiting til' reset.'

Stop playing if you don’t want to play. If you don’t enjoy something it won’t get better if you are trying to force yourself.

i have fun when I am playing killer almost every time, even if i don’t always get a 3-4K.

Lol the replies in this thread. “stop playing” and then survivors make threads in feedback complaining about queue times. I wonder if the two are related.

For what its worth op I agree with you. I’ve had ups and downs in this game. Since coming off a 3-4 month break I’ve never found the game as hard as I do now. The gens seem impossible to stop. If I was getting looped for 5 minutes I’d understand but the chases are short, I’m reading plenty of survivors like a book and getting hits in good time and yet it’s still not enough.

Case in point the other day I found a survivor fast in yamoaka and I get a hit, chase, get them down, hook. Turn around to walk away, other survivors farms them. Obvious BT so I chase this new survivor, get them down fairly quick and hook them. Start walking down the map and pop, pop 2 gens done. Hard for me to pressure the other side of the map isn’t it. So I’ve got 2/12 hooks, 1 hook on 2 survivors which is only just starting out really and meanwhile the survivors have done 40% of their objective. With 3 gens to go all they need is 1 survivor in chase and the rest on a gen rather than wasting time and the game is over in 80 seconds. So that puts me in a position where I cant make any mistakes and bearing in mind some locations like the house of pain or badham school are just huge timesinks for most killers. But heres the issue with the game, I read the devs apparantly said chases are meant to take around 40 seconds. If I do that all those 3 gens are 50% completed. Theres no real way to get that out. Ruin gets destroyed instantly and again some maps are so large that you can’t pressure gens 3 miles away. Pop only affects 1 gen, and the default regression is useless. Once those charges are in a gen they’re in for good for the most part.

Know what works best? Facecamping, because ironically it’s the only thing that gets survivors off generators.

Like you i also see keys and map offerings galore. Always coldwind, ormond or haddonfield showing how one sided these maps are and yet the designers do nothing to balance them.

I play swf with a friend and we get the gens done every single game. The challenge comes ironically from babysitting other survivors and you can see who the game is balanced for here. Sometimes the games start out hard because one survivor goes down in about 10 seconds and they’re getting tunnelled hard and you can’t make any progress because you’re always having to help out the baby Meg, but when that survivor gets eliminated the game ironically becomes 10 times easier because either myself or my friend will then run the killer easily for the next few minutes while all the gens get done.

The only thing that stops an escape is NOED. If all 4 survivors are competent we always do the bones but if 1 survivor is tunneled fast and the others on deathhook then yeah we’re kind of too pressed for time to be doing the totems as well as the gens.

The devs balance for rank 20 survivors that much is obvious from playing the game and its highly likely that the only results they account for are kills and escapes. So if the killer tunnels out a rank 20, gets looped for 5 gens by a better player, and then crutches another with NOED, thats a balanced game and a good job in their eyes.

Actually they are listening to feedback of killer players and work on balancing.. just see DS change as a recent example. And they are working on changes to the key. And better matchmaking including killer specific hidden rank...

but if you don’t have fun playing the game at all as the killer role... maybe the game isn’t suited for you..

Lower your expectations and don't go for 4k, be satisfied with 3k as well. It will help a lot. Also accept the fact that there are keys and they can escape using that. So don't be upset about it, just learn to handle the fact that survivors escape.

If you don't like maps, then use map offerings.

If there is a key in play, maybe you just have the illusion that the match is going well, because instead of repairing gens they are looking for the hatch.

Or if you really can't handle it, then play survivor or some other game, like Civilization.

    Lol at your entire post.

if you get frustrated by a game than maybe you just shouldn’t play it. Give feedback on what is frustrating, sure. Ask for ways to improve etc. but in the end, don’t force yourself if all it does is building up negative emotions.

The first 2 gens or not equal to 40% of all survivor objectives. Gens get harder the more are completed, so the first shouldnt count as much as the last, also exit gates are a thing.

for your example you can easily find a counter example on a killer snowballing before first gen get done. Doesn’t mean the game is killer sided.

SWF have it easier, that’s well known by now. But it’s still not a guaranteed 4 man escape. The killer has to be competent for sure and many killers are not as good as they think they are. Also matchmaking is just broken, which also goes in both directions. You just disregard the killer sided matches because the survivors are just called potatoes. But there are equivalent potato killers - on all ranks.

Ornond was reworked and its mostly agreed its way more balanced than it was before, Haddonfield and Coldwind are still to be reworked.

the devs don’t balance for rank 20 survivors. Have you ever seen a match with 4 rank 20 survivors? Also complaining about that while simultaneously asking for the devs to balance for inexperienced killers is a little bit hypocritical

  • Mooks
    Mooks Member Posts: 14,792

Yeah, that perk will totally be used every match because it’s so strong. And let’s disregard every anti-gen speed perk then?

also that new mechanic that started as an early-game collapse is still to be revealed.

This is just a game, dont think about rankings and start playing the game as you want it, i mean choose the killer you like and just play it.. -pip - nothing bad gonna happen.. so far as you enyoj playing the game your on the right way.

+ More you play with higher ranks, better you become..

  • Dizzy1096
    Dizzy1096 Member Posts: 918

Actually if you split the gens correctly the last gen can be easier than the first gen. Just keep them map wide and the killers will likely leave you alone for most of the gen.

Killers only snowball before the first gen if the survivor team is really bad. This is when they all group up nearby and none can last more than 5 seconds in a chase.

Ormond may be "better" now but it's still generally regarded as a poorly balanced map.

The devs definitely balance for low rank, everyone has come to this conclusion over the years and it's not a coincidence. Nobody asked for the game to be balanced for inexperienced killers, people want it to be balanced for the top end. Genspeed is balanced for those survivors who explore a bit, hide at the first sound of a heartbeat and stay in a locker etc once survivors lose that fear and they just charge gens at all costs you see how unbalanced the game is. Hence why so many killers resort to slug, slug, slug, slug, slug and camp people on 2nd hook. It's amazing player survivor and finding out how much time you can actually waste in a game and still escape. I ran around the map multiple times last time I played looking for a glyph and we still got all the gens done in minutes vs a rank 1 killer.

  • Mooks
    Mooks Member Posts: 14,792

Again, many of those killers are not as good as they think they are. You examples feature exactly those inexperienced killers, equivalent survivor players would just get disregarded as being bad/potatoes and that’s it.

and slugging and camping are normal strategy’s that should always be considered when balancing. They are not abused by killers when they are valid mechanics.

and splitting the Gens or getting a 3 gen scenario is not only up to the survivors, the killer can very much influence this outcome.

  • Dizzy1096
    Dizzy1096 Member Posts: 918

Ok then I guess all the players being frustrated by killer over the past 4 years and the long survivor queue times is just coincidence. Waiting 10 minutes for a game as survivor for a 3 minute gen rush is riveting gameplay.

Lets just keep encouraging people to quit.

  • Mooks
    Mooks Member Posts: 14,792

No, let’s try to encourage players to continue playing who get depressed by it.

there is a difference in getting a little bit frustrated by mechanics and „having no reason to play“

the devs are working on improving both sides, keys are getting a rework, map reworks are actually more balanced than you want to admit, DS gets nerfed just now.

if you are not able to admit that, then nothing they will ever do will be enough for you I fear..

There's not a single gen slowdown perk that's worth running. Not even taking 4 slowdown perks will counter the current gen rush meta.

The new perk combos well with stake out. Giving 20% progress on a single skill check. Now think 3 survivors using it on the same gen.

    Making 3 gen strats useless.

  • Mooks
    Mooks Member Posts: 14,792

Yeah, that’s well too niche to be Meta..

just like Power Struggle was said to be dominating especially for 4 man SWF. I almost never saw that happen either..

You aren't supposed to win every game.

Have you ever thought that if just maybe if you stop demanding for nerfs you wouldn't see so many try hard SWF teams? It's the only way to possibly win because as you said it...your matches are ending because of the hatch. If the game was fair, many of your games the gates should be opened solos or SWF, not the hatch.

I also doubt you see a SWF every match unless you are not as good as you think.

The last sentence here really got me.

As for you my friend, I'm not going to say "stop playing" right over but instead, I strongly suggest you to play dbd as a side game all the time as I do. There are plenty good games out there waiting to be played trust me. So, look out for steam sales and choose the ones that mainly offer you singleplay rather than multiplay as this might bring you to the same point currently you are. Entertain yourself without thinking about any issues with single games. Enjoy the story, gameplay and the world you are in. Let's say that I bought Resident Evil 7. I will most likely enjoy the game so much that I wont even bother playing dbd again till Im done with it. If its a long open-world game then I will mostly play it but sometimes go back to playing dbd for a couple of hours. Do not force yourself to enjoy any game. If a game is frustrating to you, play it for shorter sessions till you finish it.

Secondly, yes this game has some balance issues and flaws. When you happen to face one of them, stop resisting to it like "omg how the heck they dont see what is wrong with their game its not fair bla bla..." and accept it. Do not expect devs to fix the thing you are having problem with right over, they wont. Sometimes they will never do it. When you are having a bad match If you are sure that its because of things which are out of your control(SWF,good survivors with 4k hours, balance issues and etc), then there is nothing to get upset about it but accept it. Do not expect too much from yourself in those kinda mathes and just do your best without sweating too much. Do not expect to get a 3 or 4k every match. You can create a topic about what is wrong to you(politely) and see if you can get any tips or whether there are people have the same opinion as you.

Lastly, learn to play survivor. It will give you some breathing room and also improve your killer play aswell. Im sure you will enjoy it too once you get the grip of it. Do not take the game too seriously. You will get frustrated aswell playing survivor too believe it or not.

As for toxic players on both sides like a camping or tunneling killer or a tbagging, flashlight spamming survivor and etc. Never take them seriously. If they are doing these kinda things, I mostly think that it is their own stupidness and they probably havent achived anything better in real life so that little control they have in a video game makes them so happy and makes them do dumb moves. Its miserable if you think that way so just ignore them. But sometimes they do these to get your attention for god knows what. Do they have a challange? Want to save a teammate? Maybe they like your playing and have fun having a chase with you? Thats rare but happens to me every now and then. My point is its not always toxic.

On the other side for killers, same statement above. Just ignore them, let them have their kills and move on.

Dbd generally has a good player base but I think toxic ones are so loud that it looks like worse than it is actually.

These are my suggestions to you as a 1k hours player who play both sides equally. I hope at least one of my suggestions will help you. Good luck.

I feel you Kardiá. DBD do be like that sometimes (actually a lot of the time...) for me when playing as a killer.

Doesn't help that the best answers the community can give you are: drop your expectations completely/just don't expect any positive emotions out of your life/go play something else lmao.

Actually, now that I think about it, maybe playing something else is really the best strategy. Mabe if queue times go up to something like INFINITY (because exactly 0 people would want to suffer another match) the devs would actually start balancing out all the glaring issues that we have 🤓

I haven't played the game in months, myself. And the only reason I would install it again would be for the occasional playing as Michael Myers. Other than that, the game is just too buggy for me to spend time on.

I did try the current PTB, though. Sadly, it didn't inspire me to reinstall the Live version.

killers are getting buffs, maps are being killer sided, survs get nerfs. So survs realize the only possibility now to escape is doing gens as fast as possible. They’re killing the game. Soon matches will last 1-3 mins only

  • Zagrid

Funny you should say that when you have demanded BBQ, Noed, and spirit to be nerfed?

Maybe if you stop demanding for nerfs you wouldn't see so many try-hard killer players.

There is always someone complaining how hard is the killer/survivor role and how easy and enjoyable is the other. How one side is getting all the good perks and buffs, and the other is just getting nerfed.

    @Tsulan

Are you even being serious? LOL

I just can't take this comment serious at all. First, you act as if every single match is a gen-rush experience, which is completely wrong. Second, yes there are slow down perks worth taking Corrupt being one of them. If you are a good killer (emphasis on the IF) You will get 1-2 downs before Corrupt depletes.

I have seen BAD killers bring Ruin/Corrupt/Undying, and because they lack skill during chases, these perks do nothing for them. You can't pigeonhole one scenario for everyone. There are killers out there who don't even run slow down perks at all and are doing just fine in high ranks.

I'm not sure in which ranks you play, but I can guarantee you, gens aren't the issue with many of the killers who complain about gen speeds. There is a big skill gap they don't want to bother discussing, because it is much easier to blame it on gens. That is a fact.

I play red (and purple due to the bug) ranks solo survivor. Playing against red rank killers.

Since 4.5.0 dropped, most of my matches consisted of 3 and 4 man escapes. Killers getting 3 or 4 hooks by the time the 4th gen was completed.

Only exceptions were matches were a survivor disconnected or rage quit.

Excuse me, but if you don't find a reason to play this game, then why don't you quit? Furthermore since you'll quit, then why share that with the community? You basically make a post that you're not going to be part of the community, if so then, who cares?

This is something that happens naturally in fighting games and similar competitive games. If you join up late or towards the end of life of a game, most of what you are going to be ranked against is lifers. I took a break too and came back, and at rank 15 I'm getting matched against ranks 5-1 PC players exclusively. The queues will stay like this since you won't get fresh players to stick around if they just get crushed.

I also wouldn't put too much fate on the developers making things better. Something similar happened in Conan Exiles where they realized that the playerbase is dwindling, so they don't really balance much. They are just phoning it in and releasing cosmetic dlc until they move on to the next project.

So without the toxic sarcasm the bootlickers are showing here, I'd recommend to play something else. And whenever this game company releases a new project, remember the playerbase it attracts and how little this developer does in situations like this.
