Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Cheaters still at large - Some possible counter measures

I've started running into cheaters every so often in my recent games. They're by no means common. But my god if it isn't frustrating when I do.

Survivors instantly being healed, gens being completed in under a second, pallet stuns lasting minutes at a time, all sorts of unrequited bullshit will occur if you happen to run into one of these deplorable people. Luckily, there is some things you can do to counteract this.

  1. Run Lightborn

A nasty new cheat I've come across is a map-wide blind. No matter where the cheater is on the map, you're getting blinded. They've basically turned their flashlight into a magnified lighthouse. Lightborn isn't the best perk in of itself. But having been lucky enough to use it when running into a cheater with a solar flare in their pocket, it made the game slightly more bearable.

2. Be wary of suspicious names

Anything that's particular verbose or edgy is usually a sign that you might be running into a cheater. If you do run into one write down their name in a list that you can glance at between lobbies in case you find them again. They can't ruin your game if you dodge them.

3. Tombstone Piece

An add-on for Michael Myers. It allows you to kill survivors on the spot if your evil is high enough. A number of cheats allows the basement dwellers to teleport when grabbed or just flat out escape when they feel like it. Running this add-on should counter that. They can't instantly heal themselves if they're dead.

Note that not killing a survivor after reaching Evil 3 will reduce your evil to the base amount it normally goes to.

4. Wait for the devs to add good anticheat

lol like that's ever going to happen.

You've just been lucky. In my past 30 games or so I've run into 3 cheaters on separate occasions.

Well i hope they will get ban then. Maybe i am lucky i dont know but my games usually normal. I just saw one Twins, faster than normal. He never used Victor. And he was really so fast. I checked him profile, he had vac ban. Maybe he was cheater but i did not report him.

I played a game recently.. against an Oni who was playing very well. I was slugged, and then out of nowhere this Kate teleports onto me, heals me to full health (from 0% slug) in 0.5 seconds and runs off normally.

Killer wasn't suspicious at first, might be WGLF who knows, then when he downs her, she just picks herself back up to full health in 0.5 seconds before he can pick her up and runs at the speed of an Oni with his power up.

Yeah that was a game.. the cheater was acting toxic in post game chat.. yikes

Just hit record and follow them around. Then after the match just report them and send the video in and hopefully they will get banned.

Can't they link you to other peoples profiles?

I saw a streamer try reporting one and it always linked to n00b3's profile.

Yeah I saw coconuts video to where they did that. Some may be able to do that so in those situations dbd would probably contact steam and they would maybe use the IP address to find the person and ban them from steam also for doing that as well.

But I can't be to sure what really happens behind the scenes in these cases.

Encountered about two cheaters. One had the instant heal ability picking herself off the ground immediately after being downed. Then they deliberately started blocking my shots as deathslinger (glad we have counterplay hackers can exploit). Then there was a game I actually recorded and still have. Ticket sent in and game was reported no response so far? There were two hackers who kept dropping from the sky on the groaning storehouse somehow. Monto has encountered it as well. So ya they exist and they have been more prevalent as of recently. I wouldn't mind all of this if I got some feedback that they are doing something about this.

Also dude linked his youtube where he does these hacks in other game not just dbd but I'm not linking them since they don't deserve the views on top of the naming and shaming rules.

You encountered one blatant cheater. There are many cheats available for DbD, and DbD is like any other games, there are exactly the same amount of cheaters on it, around 1 to 3%.

For exemple, on CSGO, there have been 600k cheaters banned during December 2020 only for 24 millions active players every month. It represents 2% of cheaters, and these are the cheaters that have been caught and i don't think that CSGO anticheat (software + community) has a 50% efficiency rate, and it is a better anticheat than DbD.

    Cheating is a plague.

If we consider a 2%/5% cheating rate, every 25 games you meet 100 players, so 2 to 5 cheaters. Let's say only 1 cheater per game and you meet one every 5 games...

It's not because you don't see them that they don't exist, they just cheat wisely that you don't see it.

But i encounter more and more killers that know where i am all the time... things that never happened 2 years ago. They always say it's experience, but honestly, i'm experienced walking around at my job but i still don't see through walls :).
