Literally BHVR took all my money
So foolishly, I connected my steam account to BHVR account when they activated this feature. Even though I don't have a stadia account 500k blood points seemed like a nice incentive to do it. What a naive thought that BHVR actually can establish a working platform.
After this weeks hacking problems, I got scared and wanted to unlink my steam account to protect it. Not only I couldn't manage to unlink but also I lost every single auric cell, shard and bloodpoint I had.
So now they say me this is intended. I am asking how is robbing someone is intended? You can't tell me "you loss progress after unlinking". Cause first it didn't even unlinked and second even if that was true I still should had my auric cells and shards back to before linked state. But no they just vanished. And third they say any remaining progress on BHVR account will be transferred to the last unlinked account. So I am asking where is my money?
Losing bloodpoints not much of a problem. Shards hurts a bit more, but okay I can take that. But you just can't take away something I purchased with real money, and give me no explanation in return.
So anyone planning linking to BHVR account, just DON'T.
This is your own article saying you will give progress back, https://support.deadbydaylight.com/hc/en-us/articles/360053328931-What-progress-do-I-keep-and-lose-when-unlinking-an-account-
Sorry for the inconvenience is not enough. Not even close to helping. Either embrace you messed up with BHVR accounts, own your fault and give me back what you took or tell me what did I do wrong and I apologize. Not giving explanation makes me think you guys don't care about helping your players at all.

Yeah thats probably a reason why I won't ever link my account to a bhvr account, to many risks
11 -
I made this mistake basically upon release, contact support and make ONE (1) support ticket to attempt to get your progress back. It worked for me.
11 -
I did submit a ticket, but all I get is a Sorry for the inconvenience and here are some bloodpoints to shut you up.
After unlinking I also lost everything. Every single purchase I made with shards and cells from 3 years to now are gone. I highly doubt that I could get them back. I lose faith in this company day by day.
10 -
That's... odd. I got everything refunded- cells, shards, cosmetics, all of it.
3 -
Seems like I was very lucky. Linked my Steam account and nothin mg changed whatsoever...
well let’s see what happens once Switch gets cross-progression. Will i be able to use my 4M BP and 14K shards?

Yeah my account was linked for 3 months, but somehow I lost 3 years of progression. I am furious that all support team says to me “ohh that’s unfortunate, but we can’t do anything”. I mean 3 years of work energy money all gone. And I don’t even know what is going to happen
8 -
Yeah I definitely didn’t see this coming. A catastrophe on this magnitude. Everything I ever purchased with cells or shards, like cosmetics and characters, not just 3 months.
I would be mad even if they reset progress back to 3 months. But this is just too much. I don’t have the strength and can’t just spend more money for something taken away from me unfairly.

Thanks for the warning. Looks like BHVR has more questions to answer.

Your house is next.
7 -
Which department of the support you contacted exactly? What did you write to them? I keep trying to explain and get some answers but I just can’t get any word other than “sorry we can’t help”
1 -
:)) I wouldn’t be surprised

I made this ticket under "loss of progress" on 15th October:
I got back 2 responses:
1st December 2020, I got my things back (shown in this tweet):

Corporate greed at it's finest

Yeah exactly what happened to my cells and shards. And I submit a ticket on that subject too. But they told you they are looking into it. All they tell me that they can’t restore any of my purchases or progress.
3 -
I mean what would they gain for confiscating my cells that I already purchased. And clearly I won’t spend anymore money. I can’t see a logical explanation for it. Only one I can think of is they can’t figure out how their own system works.
2 -
That's... Genuinely really frustrating and heartbreaking to hear, man. I'm really sorry.
I'm gonna tag @MandyTalk in here to see if anything can be done, but I think I already know her answer; if support say nothing can be done, then nothing can be done about it.
I'm really, really sorry this happened to you, mate. Only thing I can think of is to re-link in a month and pray that it grants you things back

I don't think it's greed so much as incompetency

Thanks. Really appreciate your support. It is indeed so frustrating. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone else. That’s mostly why I posted about it. I wish someone would have warned me before it was too late. If I can prevent even 1 person from suffering because of this ridiculous situation, that gives me some consolation.

I will never, ever, EVER, link my Steam account to BHVR for this reason, among many. The track record of incompetence is too long. Literally every single friend of mine who linked their account has had issues.
One friend in particular randomly had his 1500 hr save file scrubbed after an update. Completely lost all progress on the account 2 months ago. Support has 100% ignored every one of his tickets. It's a wonder that this game ever got made.
Anyone who links their account is taking a major risk with their game progress

I am afraid that’s exactly what is happening to me. Ash for example, when his Dlc was released 2 years ago? Gone from my account. And many others like him. Every single outfit I ever purchased. Gone. I can’t even describe the feeling of seeing my account so empty. 3 years of work gone with a stupid link/ unlink. So freaking unfair. They punish you because you trusted them.
3 -
Aw ######### I'm sorry that happened to you. I really hope this doesn't happen to me. I already linked my Steam account to my BHVR account, now I regret it.
0 -
If you can prove it, go through Steam, show evidence that you have tried to contact BHVR support, and initiate a refund/chargeback. I'm afraid it's the only way BHVR will show any urgency.
3 -
This is pretty much all you can do, unfortunately. It's a ######### situation and BHVR should be able and willing to correct it, but if they aren't get your money back via steam.
1 -
Never ever try to unlink it. That is my only advice.
0 -
Is that even possible? How am I gonna request refund for a game I played for 4k hours. I might have some screenshots over years, but how do I prove it exactly to Steam? Even Behaviour doesn’t give a damn to their own game/ player, how steam could help? Genuinely asking.
1 -
One of the things that drives me crazy is that. How on earth BHVR can’t fix what they broke. We are doing everything via Steam and after linking, behaviour account also has access to everything. So how they can’t see or fix something caused by them. Don’t they have records of purchase history for every account? How’s so they can’t do anything. Who else could do something?
4 -
I agree completely. They should be able to do it, I don't know why they refuse to help you. I have personally noted Steam support to be very helpful in the past, so I am hoping they will help you.
1 -
Thanks. I will give it a try. I am composing a to do list. Steam support is no1 for now. Waiting 60 days to relink and hope for a happy reunion is last. Let’s see if I get some more ideas from community here. You all are very helpful. I really appreciate it.

Pretty sure revoking or witholding digital goods is illegal in some countries.
4 -
I'm saying prove that you no longer have access to DLC/content that you've purchased through Steam. They'll be able to see the purchases on their end.
3 -
But unfortunately, I lost access to the characters and cosmetics I unlocked via shards or auric cells. Since they are in-game purchases, would Steam still get involved?
0 -
It sucks but meh. Dunno why you would unlink it and not expect anything to happen. Hopefully you can get it sorted however.
0 -
Yeah they reference to that link as well. However they also have this link
So I don’t think it is so irrational to think I should get all my progress. But my issue isn’t limited to linking state. I linked account 3 months ago and lost 3 years of progression while unlinking. That FAQ answers are not even close to my problem.
3 -
Shards, no. Auric cells are technically purchased through Steam though.
0 -
Steam can verify that I purchased auric cells in general, but I don't think they can tell when and what I purchased with them. Only Behavior can, I think.
0 -
This situation sucks. I'd be curious to know what people could do proactively to back up their purchases somehow. Half of my stuff was bought through Steam directly, and half with auric cells, and I get the feeling BHVR doesn't keep track of what you do with your cells after you pay for them. Makes me kind of nervous.
0 -
Yeah, previously when I read here about people loosing their progression all of a sudden, I always felt nervous too. What if it would happened to me as well. Now it has, I can honestly say it sucks more than I imagined.
We are giving our real earned money alongside with our energy and work, and get this kind of treatment in return. Seeing on the tickets constantly "Sorry for the inconvenience, but we can't help you" phrase is hurtful. It is like they keep telling me to go F myself, and I keep trying to get some explanation.
3 -
The EULA says that there are no refunds. Support likely can't help you for this reason.
EULA: https://store.steampowered.com/eula/381210_eula_0
Relevant section, from the EULA:
BHVR has the absolute right to regulate, discontinue, update, modify or eliminate any Virtual Goods at any time in its sole discretion and BHVR shall have no liability to you or anyone else for these actions.
Relevant section talking about refunds, I don't know if this applies to the case where your currencies are deleted by unlinking:
All purchase of Virtual Goods, whether made with “real money” or virtual currencies, are non-refundable and non-returnable and are not redeemable for any sum of money or monetary value or virtual currency from BHVR at any time.
During the Halloween cosmetic disaster everyone who bought the overpriced items could have been given free currency to make up for that, but that did not happen, because of the EULA. My guess is that the same applies here.
0 -
But I don't want a refund. I want back my items that I legitimately purchased through their in-game store. The comment you are referring is someone who regrets buying an item on regular price and wants a refund when that item goes on sale. Not even similar in any way.
5 -
Your currency was taken away. According to the EULA they are allowed to do that. I would call the process of returning the taken currency a refund, but maybe that is wrong here.
In any case, as your currency can be removed at will, that (in addition to the no-refund policy) may be the reason support isn't doing anything.
I don't know who controls the policies, but it seems unlikely that the support staff handling the tickets is. Maybe asking for the ticket to be escalated to someone higher up (I believe the term is second-level support) yields different results.
1 -
Not my currency, but the things I previously purchased with those currencies over the years are taken away. The currency have returned after unlinking process. But instead of losing 3 months of worth progression as they claim normal, I lost everything I ever purchased via in-game store over 3 years. That must be some kind of mistake, but unfortunately I can't seem to contact someone to help. Any new tickets I try to open gets closed. And I am dealing with same team member. How could I get bumped to higher level of support?
3 -
If you can still reply to the ticket (not sure if this is possible when it's closed) then update it by replying that you request that your ticket is escalated.
Otherwise make a new ticket, explain the issue (items / currency deleted by unlinking), that your previous ticket was closed and that you request that the ticket is escalated.
Check if an old tickets is still open and update that one if it exists before making a new ticket though. Your new tickets may be closed because they are duplicates of an older, still open ticket.

Wow. Some people may think it's unbelievable a company acts this way towards its player base, but BHVR has been getting away with this kind of thing for years. It's not a one off thing. Was a similar situation when people were losing their legacy skins YEARS AGO (I'm talking from literally 2016 and onward). But your situation is even worse because they not only essentially wiped all your time spent in-game progressing, but also wiped things you bought with auric cells (which are bought with real money).
BHVR really has little respect for their player base. That's awful. Really hope BHVR refunds your goods. Good luck.
6 -
Thanks. Even though I don't have much expectation, still trying to hold on to little crumps of hope.
I just can't comprehend how they are unable to see or restore the things on their players' accounts. Everything we do in game, every purchase we made should logically leave a record on their system. Where is that? How on earth they can't see that, or restore things that they cause in the begin with?
0 -
Yes, I do have an open ticket currently. When I first lost the cells, after unlinking process failed, I submitted that. Then I told to myself maybe because unlinking got failed game stuck in a bug. So tried to unlink for a few more times. After 3rd try, it unlinked and when I returned to my account I saw cells have been returned, but I lost every other purchased items over years. Since I had no luck in the begin with my 1st ticket, and this is a different problem, I created another ticket explaining what happened. It is immediately closed, and merged with "Nothing I can do" ticket. Either I don't understand them, or they don't understand me.
They haven't responded yet, but I am fairly certain all I see will be "Sorry nothing we can do" . But after I get that I will ask my ticket to be escalated.

Take legal action.
Let people know about this
Twitter / Reddit will chew BHVR for this.

@antgnstea I'll message you and get some information from you.
