The game has very little bugs right now. Do we still need Operation Health? Discussion

Over the years we as a community have agreed that Dead By Daylight needed to forego a chapter release and dedicate that period to a Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege-style ‘Operation Health’. Ubisoft, subverting all possible expectations about themselves, actually took something that was broken and fixed it. I know, even I was amazed.

We all know how Dead By Daylight be - we get an update, a thing breaks, it gets fixed, another thing breaks. This particular patch right now, before the release of The Trickster, is in a very good spot with regards to bugs. The only one I really know about at the moment is the Nurse’s Wooden Horse add-on, which reduces all blink fatigue instead of missed blink attack fatigue. There’s also the occasional Survivor in Dying State standing up, and I’ve had a few one-off glitches with a successful hit that didn’t have a cooldown, and a phantom carry (idk how to explain it but I pulled a character off a window and had him on my shoulder, but was moving full speed and couldn’t drop or hook. Fortunately was playing Trapper so stepping in an active trap fixed it).

With how healthy the game is in 4.5.2, do we still need an Operation Health?

You might say yes because of the “‘delayed’” 4.6.0 release, which was indeed busted with Killers whose powers didn’t work and various other issues. Fortunately BHVR is taking their time before releasing it, hopefully to fix all the issues that were present during the PTB, and that’s significantly better than releasing a broken patch (looking at you, Ubisoft), but perhaps an Operation Health could fix all of these issues.

Should BHVR Interactive skip a chapter to make a deep dive and scour the game for things to be fixed, to make it more stable for all future chapter releases (ie less random bugs)? Or is it a waste of time, should we instead just let them do them? They’re doing pretty well recently at least with “‘delaying’” 4.6.0. Maybe an Operation Health could let them do more mid-chapter patches per chapter instead of us having to wait weeks for exciting changes like Wraith speed and the Blight fixes.

Yes, and not just for bugs. The gameplay of DbD is extremely stale because the Devs don't want to play around with perks, items and powers, so having a well-tested chapter where they release a bunch of small changes instead of a new killer, survivor and 6 perks would be amazing.

Edit: perhaps gameplay isn't the right word. Builds? The way people play around their builds?

I think it would go a very long way if one update a year was replaced with focusing everything into health and re-balances. The current rate at which existing things get re-balanced or tweaked is immensely slow. Of course the devs will never do this due to their past records, greed, and overall distrust of the community, but I can dream.

Play like five games and you're guaranteed to run into the fun bug that slows down your mouse so that you can barely look around and do anything and have to restart to get rid of it, or else it just persists into further games. One of the reasons I've stopped playing as of late. There are also plenty of others that some have already have listed (free IW bug, nurse fatigue bugging out and being mis-leading, Twins in and of itself is honestly just one big bug and pile of jank) So yeah, I'd say a patch dedicated to game health and actual in depth perk rebalance would be necessary.

Very little bugs? 🤣 what version of dbd are you playing?

Truth be told I think they need another map review. They need to nip these bad maps in the bud but I fully expect they will be left in this state for the remainder of the games life cycle.

The low FPS is due to poor optimisation, which is also very likely to be due to the spaghetti code that DBD seems to have. If they fix the game over the course of a full chapter period this would certainly bolster performance for all platforms.

The way Dead By Daylight plays and the fact that it has the level of visual fidelity of a late PS3 to early PS4 title, and has extremely base mechanics that I can guarantee aren’t even resource demanding (“hold button, fill bar” is a massive chunk of gameplay), is a testament to how badly optimised DBD really is.

Even Royale games like Warzone, PUBG, Fortnite etc run better than DBD and they function on a significantly larger scale (≈100 players per match and gigantic maps with very high LOD by comparison, and lots of things moving around).

An Operation Health could resolve Project 60FPS as a side effect, assuming spaghetti code is the actual issue.

The reworked maps need reworking by someone else.

At this point they are just focusing on next gen consoles. PS4’s and Xbox ones are dead in the water in terms of optimisation

There are still blink deadzones and blinking up on some maps are a hit or miss sometimes.

Then you have the bug where the power noise is just spammed if you want to charge a blink.

Just some quick examples I can think of.

Definitely need a chapter dedicated to it.

Unfortunately the devs are pretty arrogant about it and think they are good and smart enough to release a new chapter and do QOL at the same time.

Something they have shown on multiple occasions they are not capable of doing.

Things get worse almost every new chapter but needing the dedicate a full chapter to it?

They stay in denial and don't think it is needed.

oh yeah the spam power noise ahah i love this bug, but i rarely have it.

As for the blink the only thing i hate is that if i don't look up enough, and the main building happens to have the basement, you go down to it ahah

    1) As others have mentioned consoles are in DESPERATE need of health lol

    2) Operation Health was never just about bugfixing but also balancing. Having Legion and Spirit in the same Video game is proof that the game is unbalanced already, but then you could have a group of solos with off-meta perks vs a SWF OOO squad on Midwich- the min/max power of both roles needs to be addressed BADLY

Then they need to come out and admit they are breaking their promise.

A chapter similar to Operation Health would have a big benefit. It wasn't only bugs, but balancing too. If there was a period of, lets a month, a separate release of DBD (with weekly updates balancing and changing perks, powers, items etc.) I think most people would participate in that, but I do not really know. I'd like to hear from the community itself.

They are updating the game for the new generation consoles, that's kinda tells everything about these promises.

I wish for them to say that they are going to force people to buy a $500 machine to play the game properly.
