Spirit players - how do you deal with the sound's inconsistencies?
So I've leveled and pretty much got a hold of every killer, Spirit being the latest I have unlocked (only Twins is left). As I have a pretty good grasp on Nurse already I thought I'd have to get onto Spirit as well, but they are different in the sense that Spirit relies on sound, now here's the catch:
I can't tell if I just can't hear or the game's sounds just go silent all of a sudden sometimes. I started running Stridor to help out although I wanted to play without it since it's not all that needed if the game's sounds actually work, and it would be awful for me to get used to playing with Stridor so I just crash the moment I will play without it.
I regret deleting the recording but in my last game I had a Dwight run in front of me (I'd hear the running, at least) while being injured and while I had Stridor and he was COMPLETELY silent, and this has many occurances in my games I feel like.
How do you guys play Spirit when the game's sounds are so inconsistent? I feel like when I play Spirit I see just how much the game's sounds suck, since I don't need to focus all that much on the sound on the other killers. I don't run Stridor on any killer since it's a waste but if the survivor is silent on other killers I just assume they have IW, not a sound bug.
I still need to work on getting used to hearing survivor's healthy breathing so I won't say anything about those but I do hear them from time to time.
I'm just frustrated I feel like I'm losing to random bs I shouldn't lose to just because I injure someone and by the time I'm done channeling the phasing they're already on the other side of the map because I can't hear them whatsoever for some reason (I don't play with add-ons either right now, just how I try to get accustomed to killers while learning them, so it doesn't spoil me if I play with strong add-ons).
Also to clarify when I'm playing Spirit I'm full-on max volume both in-game and headphones (another reason why I hate these sound bugs tbf, the game is so loud but I have to play like this if I want to properly hear what's happening, except I don't hear what I want to hear when I need it the most)
Maybe I'm just r-word, who knows, please enlighten me since I still have stuff to learn, maybe there's a reason why that Dwight went silent that I don't know of.

It's a well known bug that survivors emit zero noise sometimes. I don't think the cause has been identified but it's been an issue for years now. Honestly there isnt anything to about it if it occurs other than keep your eyes open.

I just groan and keep playing. She's still very strong and the only killer right now that I can reasonably expect to get kills with against red ranks.

Just power through it.

I can't track with sound at all in this game I can in other games, but not DbD. (Okay, there were a couple weeks [literally] during which I could track using sound in DbD... apparently that was a fluke, it got changed and has never returned to that state since.)
Anyway, I have sound turned off at this point when I play killer. It's not worth having it on with the way it has me backtracking and going in circles trying to find injured survivors. I either find them with blood or I don't find them at all. The rate at which scratch marks appear is inconsistent (sometimes they appear extremely late), so when I play Spirit I just... guess. Every once in a while I get lucky and land on top of them, but that's all it is, luck.
(And yes, survivors going silent without Iron Will is a bug that seems to come and go. Silent dying survivors are the freakin' worst, especially with the way they sometimes teleport when you down them. Sound is so worthless in this game.)

Stridor and listening for any grass or just foot steps about the best you can do

Yeah but what sucks about Spirit is that you can't see them in phasing, you fully rely on sounds, unless the survivor is just shift W-ing, I'd be more than happy with just playing normally if I see that the bug is in the current game I'm playing, but it sucks having to do chases with 110%
I appreciate the response though.

Sometimes I can hear the survivor is right on top of me (like a 3-5meter radius) and I rarely can figure the EXACT location if they're not sprinting. The spatial sound thing from Windows helped a bit in that regard but I turned it off after like the second game with it since the sounds are so odd to get used to (sounds other than survivor sounds I mean).
But yeah I also have no problems tracking in other games (mainly FPS) but in this game I struggle.

I'm trying but as I specified I'm still in the learning process with her so will still take a while. I do get close to winning most games it's just that the sound bugs make me miss two or three downs.
Trying to practice her since I can control the Nurse fairly well (against the average soloQ survivor at least) so wanted to get the other part of the S tier in my pocket.

I'm trying to not become too comfortable with Stridor on her since it's so strong but good point on grass, still didn't incorporate it to my memory that I have to watch out for the environment moving more so on Spirit than on other killers (since on other killers I really only watch out for crows, grass only comes to mind when I KNOW in fact that someone is around and just hiding somewhere)

I just posted this in bug reports yesterday lol it's good to see it's not just me experienced it

Sounds have been terrible for years and seem to cut out randomly. Most survivors are predictable though, try to guess where they're going to go, usually to the nearest safe object

Never experienced this once. Are you sure he continued running and didn't double back? Of course I have a pair of sennheiser $300 headphones so that could be the difference.

I phased out, could hear his footsteps(not sure anymore since it's been a while now, but either way he was SHIFT+W-ing so I had the scratches to help out) but no moans whatsoever (again, whilst injured and with Stridor) and he was sprinting in front of me. This is assuming you're talking about the Dwight situation. The pair of headphones I use is Logitech G Pro since the HyperX Cloud IIs I was using before had their mic f'd up (too silent).
The headphones have an app where I can adjust how sounds come through(equalizer) I should probably play with it a little with a friend in KYF so I can see if there's a combination I can make that would make survivors come through louder than they currently are.

Did he have that Jake perk or whatever that makes him silent?
0 -
well not sure what relevancy Calm Spirit has to that but I think you're reffering to Iron Will which can't turn the survivors silent if the killer is using Stridor which I was using as I've said already.

I have never had any problem with Stridor, a good headset and high volume. My headset is only $70.

I wear headphones and just listen lol

So even though the perks says it's 100% silent that perk overrides it or something?

Is it really worth hearing damage to play this game?

Yes, I'm not sure if they're just loud as normal or if they're on 50% volume since Stridor makes it so they are 50% louder while injured (or 25% louder while healthy) so it would be 150%-100%=50% if that's the case, but in any way that's too far from silent.

don't think you've read my post entirely, I've had survivors in front of me make literal 0 noise while I'm using Stridor.

that's what bothers me the most when playing Spirit, I have to up my volume to hell just for some random bug to render the survs silent while my ears get blasted when I break a pallet/hook someone rofl
