Thoughts on Demogorgon?

Ive noticed people kinda just hate on demogorgon calling him an under average killer and just overall not that good, I honestly dont know why as he has map mobility, hes fun to play, he has great synergy with perks, he can basically become blight for about 2 seconds with his shred attack, why is he considered bad? someone please explain.

One of my favourite killers to play as. He’s in my top 5. I don’t think he’s weak at all and even if he was, I have a ton of fun playing as him and that’s what I’m looking for when I play. It’s so satisfying landing a shred attack when somebody tries to vault and I like being able to place traps near generators to utilise PGTW and BBQ. I have no problem with him in red ranks. Plus, he’s such a good boy.

Overall, I think he's a pretty good killer and a nice addition to the game. In terms of his chapter, his perks are pretty awful. Surge is his best perk, but its still pretty mediocre and has a cooldown on it for some silly reason.

In terms of power, I think he's pretty balanced, middle of the pack. He has the potential to have insane mobility, but it has counter-play unlike someone like Freddy. His shred is exceptionally good at loops like shack or those which aren't circular in shape so it gives him some anti-loop. But by its design, each side can react to what the other side is doing. The survivor can predict he's going to shred and dodge, or the Demogorgon predicts this and baits a dodge, only to connect a M1. There is stuff both sides can do, it feels like a fair interaction and its what DBD SHOULD be, both sides having a fair chance to fight the other.

He's extremely fun to go against, fun to play as if the survivors aren't extremely sweaty or really good at the game. I just wish he had some QoL and maybe a small buffs to his power and add-ons.

If I had to buff him, I'd remove the global scream when he teleports, unless you're within the TR of him at the portal he climbs out of. Everything he does gives the survivors so much information, which seems unnecessary, what other killer does that? What other killer literally screams ''oh i missed or got pallet stunned'' LMFAO

Very solid Killer. The best Killer to use STBFL and IMO it is mandatory on him. Already a difference if a Demo has it or not (it will not change the outcome of a game in a significant way, but it is missing if you dont have it).

His Add Ons are his biggest flaw, they are not really useful, aside from the browns (especially Rat Liver) and yellows. I think I have used Deer Lungs a few times as a green, but other than that, I never go higher than yellow on him and most of the time just for brown Add Ons.

Demo feels in a similar boat to Pig, but much better without an RNG component. I say that because he's fundamentally simple with a decent skillcap, but with enough complexity and power to fare okay as a mid-tier Killer.

    My only two issues are:

    1. His portals are great for getting around the map but ALL of their other extraneous features just don't make any sense. That's not gamebreaking because Demo doesn't really need those features, it's just really weird
    2. His addons, like Pig's, are a hot mess. At the least, BHVR could make Rat Liver basekit.

I think he's the most balanced killer in the game. Not too strong, not too weak. He's fun to play against because you can actively counter-play him by choosing to close the seals or not, dodging his shred, as well as paying attention to his sounds. He's fun to play as killer as well because STFBL is very easy to build up stacks, and feels so good to M1 into shred before they can get away. He's also a monster, which makes him unique in DBD.

    He’s trash.

If we use killrates to say “freddy op” then we use killrates to say “Demo trash” because he has the lowest.

He has too much counterplay in everything that he does and he gives out so much information, meanwhile the opposing side has very little counterplay and information in comparison.

Demo's base kit is pretty good. Map pressure and a super lunge. Where he suffere is having a bunch of useless addons. Only two or three are useable.

I have never heard someone call demo weak, demo is extremely balanced and still stronger than trapper and legion.

I love playing as and against demo, I play him very often but I haven't played against it in like 2 weeks.

His addons are meh since his brown ones are the best ones.

He is the best user of STBFL.

The ones that call demo weak are the ones that probably just play freddy with ropes and chains + pop thana and sloppy.

It's actually a pretty powerful killer if you know how to play it right. It has a tracking ability, great anti-loop (It's a monster in shack loops), and excellent mobility. It can also grab survivors sometimes thanks to its temporary Undetectable status after getting out of a portal. Demo is heavily underrated and is a solid B+ tier killer IMO, maybe even A-.

Its perks (aside from Cruel Limits) are also not bad at all. Surge is a very good perk for M1 killers such as Clown, Nurse, or Legion. Mindbreaker got a buff not too long ago and it's pretty damn good now. The only downside of it is that it sorta benefits Sprint Burst users, but it's the big counter to Dead Hard, BL, Lithe, and maybe Head On (did I miss anything?). Cruel Limits REALLY needs a buff.

All I want changed for Demo is base-kit Rat Liver and Rat Tail tbh. Its addons are fine except those two, they're its best addons which is ironic considering they're brown. Might as well make 'em base-kit.

People don't know how to use him effectively, if you bring killrate to the topic then I will say this as well, how can you explain nurse also having the one of the lowest killrate and pig having one of the best ones, we both know that nurse is still the strongest killer in the game, then why is she on the lowest end?

Freddy isn't op. He's boring. That's the difference same with deathslinger. He's boring not op. Freddy's Counterplay is throw pallets down early same as clown and stay awake. His skill cap might as well be non-existent because my dad who's got maybe 400 hrs is rank one with him. And no offense to my dad he's pretty bad. The issue with freddy is that he's so unfun to go against. Especially with his addons and perk combinations that can make games take ages.

Demo on the other hand is fair AND fun to play as and against. There's more Counterplay than just throw pallets down early. There's lots of interactivity between demo and the survivors and he's fun.

People who play Demo are buff chads with big pp and he is s tier!!!

In all seriousness, he's really fun IMO, his addons are garbo, but as a killer he's a B-A tier at most. Maybe a few QOL life changes could almost entirely fix his issues, i.e: his loud ass stomping.

He's not bad but he's not great either; and because there is a bit of a learning curve to him people assume that anyone who doesn't say he is really good or like B tier or such must not know how to play him, which is nonsense.

He's a ton of fun to play though, and a very interesting character who I adore. He was my main for the longest time until I picked up trapper a while back.

His addons are mostly hot garbage though, I would like to see many of them reworked; make rat liver base kit and maybe rat tail as well... also he needs a little bit of audio quality of life things but mostly he's a solid, fun killer who I would not change too much with. He's the most "Fair" killer in DBD honestly imo.

He is not strong enough to compete against the top tier survivors, but to be fair only like 3 killers in the whole game are.

So this is the survivors standard for balanced...Demogorgan. The killer with the lowest killrate in the game. Ok.

  • TheClownIsKing
    TheClownIsKing Member Posts: 6,278

He needs to maintain SOME audio cues and global sound cues though.

Could you imagine just how awful Demo would be to deal with as survivor on indoor maps, or maps with a huge volume of LoS blockers?

I never stated that he should have zero audio queues. I was just pointing out how excessive it is.

"Could you imagine just how awful Demo would be to deal with as survivor on indoor maps, or maps with a huge volume of LoS blockers?"

That actually doesn't seem that bad to me at all, honestly.

I love demo, can't see myself playing anyone else more. His power is very unforgiving but becomes incredibly rewarding once you learn where and when to use it. He has solid map control, and is super fun to play. I really hope they don't butcher him and change his power in the "tweaks" they're giving him cause that might kill the game for me. All he needs is an add-on pass and possibly some number tweaks with his portals and he'll be fine.

good killer if you play him well, rat tail and rat liver should be base though or at least one of them, its a hassle how i have to bring at least one of them every game

I believe Demo is on the weaker side of average, because of how easy it is to shut down both of his powers with proper positioning. Demo is definitely good, and a good boy, if you know how to play him, but Clown can be the same.

I'll go into further detail, as someone whos spent a decent amount of time playing Demo. The shred is a very strong anti-loop tool, but in some loops with wonky hitboxes, it simply doesn't work. You made the comparison with Blight, while using shred, but the difference is Blight gains insane map mobility with his Rush and can swing around loops with it, while Demo is locked in a straight line that punishes him for any slight miscalculation or godawful hitboxes with around a 2 second stun where you cant look around.

Also, using shred for mobility is unreliable because of how the branches of the trees have hitboxes. This is also an issue for Clown though it can be a benefit for him too and Huntress.

Now, onto his true mobility tool, the portals. The problem is that the Survivors can close them with minimal time wasted, and cut off all means of map pressure the Demo has. They take awhile to place, as well, and the Killer Instinct they offer covers next to no range though I do admit this is one of the best functions of the portals. You can be very smart with the portals and place 2 in the same area, with 1 being hidden, but since you cant remove portals you might just have used 2 portals and get no use out of them.

Just for the record, this is all WITH the Rat Liver add-on. Without it, shred is next to useless half the time, and it cant be charged as a way to cut off Survivor options as they gain so much distance when you charge it without this add-on. And a DBD dev made fun of people wanting this add-on, which you next to need to play this Killer, base kit...

Sorry for how long this is, but yeah. This is why Demo isn't too great. I do think he's very strong in the right hands, though, and definitely can get some work done against better Survivors. He could use some attention, but overall he's good where he is as long as you have Rat Liver.

I don't want to write a novella, so I'll just rip a review from the My Opinion Times: "He's alright."

  • Demo is just good and he's both fun to play and play against his rat liver needs the combo straps/windstorm treatment and then he's in the perfect spot. He often gets underrated because most demos don't use his shred properly but he's certainly in the upper mid tier of killers.

I took enjoyment of running over and crouching to Demo coming out of his portal for some amusing moments. Then I find out his screen is black till he is fully emerged and now have very little engaging thoughts on him. He exists.

Stop looking at killrates as the main base for balance for the ######### love of everything that is good in this world. Demo is a good killer, if you think he isn't I urge you to try him some more and learn more about how to use him because you're bad with him.

People write off his portals as being a secondary ability and not useful when they're easily the best part of him. Shockingly, a map-wide teleport ability on a 14 second cooldown is pretty good. If you set up his portals correctly, and bring corrupt to give yourself some extra setup time he has some of the best mobility and map control in the game.

I'm trying to get back into killer properly like I used to be and I'm maiming demo now. After a fair amount of matches he is definitely weaker than other killers however I'm determined and with the right perks I'm just going to keep practicing because I wanna be the best demo boi 😊

  • HR_Helios

I'm a killer main. Rarely play survivor. Demo in the right hands doesn't have an issue in pub games. He does have his issues though. He requires stbfl and rat liver imo to be consistent. Rat liver should be base kit. His addons suck and need a rework as a whole. And stbfl will always be a staple on him. Overall I never have a bad time with demo.

Demogorgon is honestly my favorite killer and current main. His portals do a whole three things at once to varying levels of success. They provide pretty great map traversal, they offer small amounts of intel, and just by being on the map, they give survivors something else besides gens that they need to take care of. His shred, while not great at all loops, is great at a lot of loops, especially ones with bottlenecks. It's also an incredibly satisfying ability to use. So it's not so much that he's bad, honestly he's secretly pretty powerful, he just gets outclassed by a lot of killers in the game.

no everyone uses killrates for freddy and its the reason he's getting nerfed

If we go by our own experiences then freddy isn't as strong as he's made out to be

Demo is a good example of what happens when you add too many counters.. He's weak imo. His abilities are nothing unique and uninteresting. I rather play legion. His shred can be easily dodge, his portals can be destroyed and you also have to walk to a portal or set up one which takes time, his foot steps are loud so you know where he is so looping a demo is easy and everything he does like kicking a gen or teleporting is known by survivors. If I rated him it be a C or maybe even a D.

He is good not A tier but imo high B tier but only if you get really good at shred.

You know you're good at shred if you can use it on short loops, know which direction to push loops, know to hide your red stain on high tiles/certain loops and similarly how to mind game with shred know how to use max distance shred hits/zoning/catching up effectively, you can identify spots survivors go through that make dodging shred almost impossible, and you know if you're shred is close enough to be used on reaction to vaults and if it's not you use max distance shred zoning. edit: also using shred to hit survivors using a exhaustion perk like SB as well as knowing how to bounce off things/on top of loops from elevation but that is rare and situational.

That's a lot but that if you get this stuff down his shred is a really good chase power that is so underestimated since people just only think to use it in corridors, loops, and vaults if that's you then you need to get more creative with shred and analyze the environment for spots where you can land cheeky shred hits.

He is not weak but if you played other killers for a while, most of his abilities just seem a bit lackluster. "Okay" is the best word describing him. Just like Freddy he has many of them but compared to him they're all mediocre.

I don't really get why they made him so loud. He wasn't a loud ass monster in the netflix series, he was kinda stealthy. He could also detect blood in different dimensions, a wasted opportunity for a tracking abbility. His footstomps are so annoying that i can't play him for multiple matches in a row. I think his screams when teleporting are ok, should be 48m only or something like that, but you don't know where he is going so i think that's not the biggest issue. But his footstomps and noises when hitting or getting stunned are unnecessary, they give survivors too much information. Oni has the same issue but his power is much stronger.

Honestly the most balanced and fun to play is demogorgon

he is just so fun as a demo main myself

    fun to play against

    fun to play as

as a stranger things fan this makes the experience much better , he can also end loops with his abyss and can catch someone far from the lunge area too

his traverse power is also useful and you can travel across gen to gen easily .

the sad thing is is that he isn't that strong :( but the good news is ive heard he is getting new changes along with freddy and other killers so there is something i guess

  • swager21

a lot of perks like stbfl work really well on him. really fun to play as. he also isnt annoying to go against since he does not have some ultra map pressure. his portals can be destroyed without any special requirements and his lunge isnt that hard to avoid.

His portals need a yoyo addon and longer undetectable.
