Is it worth buying a new killer (The Trickster) ?

Some of my favorite streamers think he's a bad killer. Actually, I play pretty well with Huntress. If it looks like Huntress, I think it might be good for me. What are your thoughts?

if he isn't on the same level as nurse or spirit then you're going to get bullied by SWF

Well, the trickster is a ranged killer like huntress. It's true. But if as huntress you really need to aim very well for being good at her, as the trickster mostly of the time you're spamming your knives because of recoil. Yes, you can hit the survivors with single shots and haven't recoil but it will take a huge time for sure.

While I was playing as him on PTB, I found that he's pretty decent in short loops with boxes but he's still suffering in Jungle Gyms and high rock loops where survivors can make a lot of rounds.

For me, the trickster is a downgraded huntress... But if the huntress requires of any skills, for the trickster you usually will spam your ability.

Me, personally, so sad about that the devs didn't add the addon (trick blades) that allow his knives to bounce of any environment in his basekit. With this thing, he can be more skill based and can be better than huntress in these loops where huntress is weaker. Imagine, hitting the survivor in jungle gym by a ricochet shot off walls. Yes, we still have this addon and it will be some kinda nerfed but it will be bouncing twice..

But who knows, maybe we will find a new way to playing as him better than we already used in PTB...

Anyway, if you like to throw a lot of hatchets on huntress, you will like to play as the trickster too.

If you get you can at least try him out to see how you feel about him, although it probably won't be as enjoyable compared to Huntress since it will take longer to down survivors.

To be perfectly honest, you're asking a week too soon. As it is, since you're clearly on the fence about it, you should wait until the DbD addicts that probably need an anonymous support group (myself included) have purchased, played and levelled him up, and come to a conclusion after a couple of days of (if the ptb is anything to go by) absolutely chaotic and insane fun.

Or, to put it a other way, the bastards weaker than a watered down drop of wine but a hell of a lot more fun than this metaphor.

  • The best thing I can tell you is to get the killer based on what you think of him, lots of people are saying he is going be bad but honestly what matters more is how fun you will find it to play him, the best example I can use is I know nurse and spirit are the best killers but because I don't enjoy them much so I don't play as much of them as I do legion who is objectively worse.

I would get him just for the perks alone tbh. Even if he is poo, he looks kinda fun.

Just expect to lose when you play and then you won't feel bad. I do the same with Clown but get surprising results every so often!

Some people might think, Oh if I’m good with Huntress then I might be god tier with my new spam ability, but your probably just gunna get frustrated your not as powerful or rewarded as Huntress is.

Im terrible with Huntress, so I might actually enjoy this forgiving Killer (throwing wise) because I got 60 knives or w/e to pelt people with. Lotta room to miss.

Anyway, even if we exclude your interest in Trickster, how do you feel about the perks? R they not worth it to you?

I mean that is entirely up to you right, do you get value out of it? then it might be worth it, if that value is appropriate for the cost.

I'd say to wait for his release to see what changes have been made to him. Watch some streamers and such to get a feel for him and then decide.

I wouldn't really compare him to huntress but more to Myers. It's not about getting that one accurate shot like with huntress but more about keeping the survivor in your los for a certain amount of time. The gameplay that i found of the ptb reminded me a lot of people avoiding feeding Myers.

It takes a long time to down a survivor that knows how to avoid los so against really good survivor he will probably struggle. But if you can handle losing a game once in a while without throwing a tantrum it doesn't really matter.

I would suggest to wait a week if you are unsure. Watch the gameplay of some streamers and make up your mind then.

I'm still hoping that atleast 1 ricochet becomes basekit. It is the most fun and unique aspect of him and it blows it's hidden behind a rare addon

Well if you wanna play him then dont overthink it and buy him. I mean not everything is win-lose or ranks. I am mostly play Legion cause he is fun in my opinion even though there are better killers. To be honest I did not even lose most of my games ( I am rank 7 killer). I also play Ghostface cause I love him not because of anything else. If you like the style, if you like the overall idea just play the killer and dont overthink it.

If you want my overall idea for the Trickster I found him more suitable for console players since they aim harder than pc players. You can spam his knives which is kinda nice and does not require direct hits. It is not punishing you for misses. But when there is Huntress and if you are good at her I dont see him that unique or strong killer. However he is not a bad killer and I think he will be at least mid-high tier kind of killer. That is my opinion

Honestly your better off playing Huntress or Deathslinger as their powers are much better. If you like variety though then I see no reason not to try Trickster

Imagine if Huntress needed to maintain a full line of sight for the duration of the Hatchet hitting the survivor maintaining a dot for about 5-8 seconds - that's pretty much The Trickster.

Trickster is bad for a lot of reasons but the main one is his knives are too easily juked because they don't have immediate results upon hitting someone nor do they have results for breaking chase. He essentially has the problem old Leatherface had where you need to be right on a survivor to use the power effectively. Making the name The Trickster seem like a lie because you won't be making trickshots with them much rather than wildly throwing your knives in one direction hoping you get all 8 ticks of lacerations on the survivor before they juke you long enough for the damage to start reverting which I believe is 10 seconds. Doesn't seem like a short time but considering Trickster is 110 it's super easy to juke him in chase or just temporarily line of sight them.

I am excluding problems with his kit for things such as Main Event as well. I do believe Trickster has high potential but it's a bad killer and probably one of the worst killers out of the gate if you're playing versus decent survivors - Not even good survivors either but decent. Trickster is fun though so I'll give him that but imo that alone isn't worth the buy.

I agree with the comparison of

The Trickster = Just a weaker spammier Huntress that's easier also. Granted the weakness is by a lot because you don't get immediate results and you can't break chase if you want results with your power so you have to commit to every single chase.

Bits of Huntress, bits of Plague, weaker than either of them.

Hopefully he gets a bit more of a buff. In the mean time, his Starstruck perk isn't too bad, and No Way Out could see some good uses for an endgame build that's not quite as cheap as NOED + Blood Warden, or alternatively, you pair it with NOED + Blood Warden + Remember me for a really ######### build people will absolutely hate you for.
