ACTUAL unpopular opinions

I honestly believe that we shouldn't buff solo queue to the point of it being equal to SWF, and I don't think killers should be buffed in accordance.

In my experience, SWF is stronger then a solo queue team for sure, but most of them are definitely beatable as most killers. It really just comes down to maps (which I personally love the map RNG) and descision making/skill on the killer's part. (Don't get me wrong, perks can help either side, but especially currently, almost all of them have counterplay.)

I think the only time SWF is too strong is when they're all either tournament-level players, or they're really, really strong, coordinated players who are all running copy-paste meta builds. And having either type of team is rare.

Imho if they buffed more killers to a Spirit/Nurse level, it would kill the game. I think it's fine that we have a lot of decent, average killers, and I just think that we should aim for fun and average in balance. Having one or two really good ones like Spirit, Nurse or Hag is fine (Heck, I think even Freddy would be totally okay to play against if they just tweaked some add-ons and adjusted his dream mechanic a bit on Survivor side) but that shouldn't be the standard.

I also think that a lot of people are right in saying Dead Hard needs changed, but I also think that they haven't done it because it's a hard perk to change.

To me non 3 genning is the easiest thing ever. It's really as simple as doing the centre generators first and save the ones on the edge of the map for last. However for whatever reason 90% of solo queue players don't realise that.

None of the other things you talked about were difficult for me to understand. If anything, were extremely intuitive.

For killer, it's extremely variable and it's more difficult to deal with as you're dealing with 4 people and you have to counter 16 perks, almost always in red ranks very strong ones accompanied often with survivor-sided maps. For killers like Spirit, Nurse, Freddy this isn't as hard to deal with, especially if you're proficient and/or are using strong perks, but if you're playing a weaker killer like Wraith then it is exceptionally more difficult to master Killer decision making and chase efficiency than it is to simply "master" survivor which has a lower ceiling for skill in order to win at higher levels of gameplay.

I will say though, playing survivor in solo queue can be rough, and especially if you aren't using exhaustion perks, which is easy mode.

Killer is way more chill and less frustrating than survivor.

Nurse should get a complete rework.

Hawkins is the best indoor map.

Hex: No One Escapes Death is a bad (as in weak) perk that does a poor job at doing what its ment to and, if anything, needs to be changed to do it better (= buff)

J-Flicking is actually fun to play as and against.

You play around loops differently and adds more room for mindgaming.

Legion, clown, twins and trickster are solid killers

    The game is mostly balanced

Gen rushing and tunnelling are fine since they're both just focusing on knocking out an objective quickly

The devs have a lot on their plate and should be cut some slack

Jeffery Epstein did not kill himself

We need a killer with vertical movement capabilities. Like able to float up for a good vantage point or climb walls/ceilings

The trickster isn't the worst killer in the game.

    Unpopular Opinion:

Killers need at least 5 save-able Loadout slots for their perk/add-on builds. That way they can switch to different builds on the fly in the lobby based upon what they see the survivors bringing in, since they can no longer change the killer they picked after queuing up, this gives them a better chance to adapt.

Unpopular opinion because: [Enter Entitled Survivor complaints about killers gaining more ease/control to adapt to what they see in the lobby before the match starts, and why that would break the game]

▪Twins is (are?) 4th strongest killer in DbD.

▪Assuming everyone in a match is actually good at the game, freddy is ~10th strongest killer.

▪99% of hitboxes' complaints are based on confusion between hitboxes and server latency issues.

▪Single survivors' mistakes often cost as much as killer's, it's just much less obvious.

▪The feeling of losing control of a tense match due to missing crucial timings by several seconds or comitting a single slight mistake is not unique to killer gameplay. However, you only figure it out when you are playing in a strong SWF against a very decent killer.

▪Hiding in lockers is a viable approach.

▪Not breaking ruin at all is sometimes the right thing to do.

▪Doing dull totems is a waste of time from the perspective of team victory; just the same as searching chests.

▪90% of game mechanics are hard or impossible to figure out by just playing; watching guides is a must if you want to improve.

▪Any information survivors give to the killer is important. Disturbing a crow half across the map from the killer currently chasing your teammate not only reveals your position at that very moment, but also allows the killer to predict your future actions.

▪Flashlights significantly decrease survivors' odds to win in an average match.

▪When surfing a wall and getting close to its corner with a huntress behind (assuming not enough time to fully charge the hatchet - a clear 50/50 case), only the worst and the best players keep running straight; everyone else jukes.

▪Perk section. Using shadowborn is a bad habit. Iron maiden on huntress is overrated. Huntress is the only killer for whom bloodwarden is consistently viable. Bbq < tremors, if not accounting for BP bonus. Thana change was a buff because the only two killers it can be played on suppose no healing anyways. Ruin+pop is good on several killers (3, to be precise), and it's more viable than ruin+undying against experienced players.

▪People unsatisfied by the quality of purchased product are significantly more likely to write a review. Forum population is by nature not representative of DbD playerbase as a whole, average opinions here are considerably more negative.

Clown isn't one of the worst killers in the game, people just don't understand his strengths.

I hate playing them too, tied for my least favorite killer to play actually.

Any killer can be top tier performance, if a player actually spends time on them.

Playing one side only in a game which invites you to play two seems very wasteful, in terms of experience and understanding.

Whiners are the main reason this game gets a bad rap over the bugs.

Famous players are good, but they are not gospel and should not be followed blindly, as they too can become narrow-minded and disillusioned.

The game should not have a fixed "win" condition. If someone considers not depipping as a win, then let them.

    I have a question:

Can you explain the flashlight comment?

And about Shadowborn, I understand the sentiment, but some people use it out of need rather than comfort. I know there are some players who get headaches playing some killers (or even all killers) without the additional FOV from either Monitor and Abuse or Shadowborn. I personally cannot play Blight without the extra FOV from either stretched res or Shadowborn, the latter being the best. I've tried for several days and I get legitimate headaches on the native FOV for killer.

In general, the native FOV on this game is really low and I can't play on it for all killers, but I use stretched res for everyone but Blight. I'd love to not use Shadowborn but I'd get migraines after 3 games.

Naming and shaming isn't allowed. Not that I'd do it if It was allowed mind.

I just think some content creators are hypocrites and complain about the state of the game but they also contribute to the problem while also making a living doing it.

Survivors have a higher skill ceiling than half of the killer roster.

  • KnotEnthusiast
    KnotEnthusiast Member Posts: 464

Not the OP, but I share the same sentiment. Flashlights (unless the killer is Hag) inherently require the player to shadow the killer to get value, or else they're little more than an unproductive nuisance. And any player that's shadowing the killer trying to get saves is not on a gen, meaning significantly more time for the killer. Plus they are incredibly easy to counter.

This game, paradoxically, is balanced because of how unbalanced it is. (NOED is broken but balanced because Survivors have no incentive not to genrush. SWF is broken but balanced because many Killer Perk combos can be downright unbeatable without good communication (Freddy with Tinkerer for example)

Blight should only be allowed on indoor maps like Lery’s, The Game, Etc

This game should go F2P. Since it makes most of the money selling Rift Passes, DLC, and outfits. It already feels like a freemium game.

There's no such thing as too many players, and games with lootboxes are... Go read any non-corporate study. TLDR: they're extremely expensive to get skins for.

  • TripleSteal
    TripleSteal Member Posts: 1,298

Good point about shadowborn, I agree.

Regarding flashlights, players bringing this item tend to focus on it a bit too much instead of trying to win, and waste a lot of their own time as a result. Someone following the killer to get a potential FL save means less survivors doing gens.

    • The new Clown is one of the most fun killers to play as.
    • The devs love and care about this game.
    • The new Mindbreaker is one of the most powerful killer perks in the game.
    • Despite not being asked for, the Archives are one the best additions to the game and proves even more that the devs love this game.

A bunch of people on the DBD reddit were rejoicing that the hook struggle mechanic will go from "button mashing" to yet another skill check system. I expressed honest confusion as to why so many people hated the existing system, since players only need to tap a single button or key at a steady tempo not furiously not "button mash".

I was downvoted into oblivion with unoriginal insults ranging from "were you born an idiot or did it take time to become one" to "nice of you to mock people who have carpal tunnel syndrome" to "maybe you just refuse to accept what people are saying and need to move on". The second comment in the thread also blamed the button mashing "requirement" on new players such as myself.

Now that I think about it I wasn't even blasted for stating an unpopular opinion, I was blasted for expressing legitimate confusion.

I think our opinion would be more popular if people understood what stealth is about, but most seem to believe it's just about hiding in a corner doing nothing, which is indeed boring.

5% of your games against similarly ranked players will be against opponents that are just THAT much better where your own contribution to the game actually wouldn't change the outcome.

95% of your games your actions will affect the outcome and if you lose, don't blame it on the other side's perks or broken item, ask yourself what you could've done better instead. It's a hard pill to swallow but you didn't play perfectly.

Billy is OP with steering control add-ons and I'd rather play against Nurse.

If you have a twitch name set as your username, then you deserve to get stream-sniped. You can't play a stealth game AND broadcast it.
