If Solo Q is Buffed This Game isnt Horror Anymore
it will just become another competitive esports type game, which I think honestly the devs want. Part of the fun of this game is you don’t know who or where the killer is until he’s on you. You have no clue what your teammates are doing. Are they hiding? Doing gens? Or is the Killer chasing them right now or coming to me? Just like a horror movie. Part of the fun of this game is role playing like you’re in one of your favorite horror films. Surviving against Myers, Freddy, Ghostface, etc.
SWF already ruins the atmosphere of the game by counteracting the horror element. What movie have you seen where the teens are all on comms the whole film updating everyone on where the killer is and what each member is doing. That would be a boring film and result in an ending where everyone just tbags Leatherface and escapes. Solo still kinda keeps the horror element to me where the SWF outright loses it.
If solo is made to where it’s basically SWF then it’s no longer a horror game. Just a competitive esports game with the horror characters guest starring. I hear the counter-argument is to buff Killers alongside SWF but I just think it will still wipe away the element of horror.
Does anybody remember when they first played the game? The terror you felt as survivor and uncertainty of it all? Or the power and fear you wielded as Killer? Once you get into green ranks that fantasy fades and it just becomes a sport to win. I’m not entirely sure what can be done. Put SWF in its own category? Have a separate game mode for competitive? I’m not sure but the way the game is going it’s going to be esports and lose its charm.

Agreed. SWF should be its own mode, with more deadly killers, while solo queue should be the base game, with weaker killers. If you want the full experience, you're not allowed to play with friends. If you want to play with friends, expect to sweat.

Honestly I never feel more scared than playing solo surviour lol its the only way I find playing surviour fun as it's normally to easy and less interesting with friends.
I read a lot of complaints about solo surviour and honestly understand the frustration but I enjoy it so much more than swf like you said I feel it brings back that horror element not knowing always guessing.

And everyone is asking for it to be like SWF. So there goes the horror element
3 -
Because they will never nerf SWF. It makes them to much money.

I honestly liked this idea.

Well, yeah. No Swiffer, no DBD. Solo survivor is a massively frustrating experience and is practically unwinnable at very low and very high ranks.
The game highlights this internally as well though: the survivors need to live now and again in order to make sure they don't numb to the sensation of death. Similarly, the more you play this game, the more you numb to the 'horror element'.
Solo play isn't scary. It's frustrating as hell.

And if SWF were removed from solo queue entirely, the game could be better balanced around the challenges of killer and 4 strangers, hopefully making things less frustrating and more engaging. While SWF exists in the same pool, though, any survivor buff is amplified by a factor of four, making the killer experience atrocious. While they're linked, you can't address what needs fixing.
1 -
But do you think any killer looks at two queues labelled 'free wins' and 'risk getting bullied' and voluntarily pick the latter?
The only way to fix Swiffering is by buffing killers to bust bully-strats, then massively buffing solo survivors to match their new balance floor.

Sadly the release of trixter shows they are heading the opposite direction.

They're patching him, and I'm curious to see where his buffs land him. On the flipside, with how his powers work, he shouldn't be as strong as trickier killers anyway.

You may have missed the part where I said: "SWF should be its own mode, with more deadly killers, while solo queue should be the base game, with weaker killers."
Make solo queue killers weaker, make SWF killers stronger. Maybe that's a move speed change. Maybe that's survivors getting more hooks before death in solo queue. Maybe that's killers getting six perks in SWF. I don't know. My point is that solo queue SHOULDN'T be an auto win for killers and SWF SHOULDN'T be a cakewalk for survivors. But while the two are in the same pool, everything has to stay more or less the say while vague overtures toward a parity that will never exist get bandied about and both sides get less and less enamored with the core gameplay loop

I doubt the game would die if we give survivors a chat wheel. Randoms usually only need "focus reparing" and "i need healing".
We just shouldnt give survivors that crazy free permanent aura reading and ui info. Thats not how comms give survivors an advantage.
Edit:
The community would get unruly though if the killer compensation for the so called "soloswfgapclosing" were to be delayed by more than a week.

the game isn't really horror for anybody that's put more then 10 hours into the game anyways so this seems like a silly argument

There's several reasons a separate SWF Queue would never work.
#1. It divides the player base in a way that shouldn't happen. We're already divided into Killers vs Survivors. This would only further divide us into Solo Queue vs SWF Queue.
#2. You want to play in a group of 3? Too bad! No one person is going to join a group of 3 in a mode that is built around the ability of people to communicate when you can't communicate with the other people. Even 2 groups of 2 would be at a disadvantage. And not every group of friends wants to play with Comms.
#3. only Sweaty SWF Teams could play with their friends. Just want to mess around with your friend who plays once a week and is rank 16? Too bad!
#4. More work for the devs. Who now have to work killers to fit both a SWF mode and Solo mode.

They are correct if SWF is split off they'd never get a lobby. Many who only play solo would cheer this, believing it's for the betterment of the game. The reality doesn't bear it out though.
Last stats (yes we need newer than like late 2019) had about half of all survs in at least a two-man SWF. Since solo play is just so peachy nowadays I have to believe that number has grown. So all this means its too late now.
Based on their decisions, I have to believe the only changes they'll seriously consider have to be framed this way:
1. Cannot split the playerbase
2. Doesn't hurt anyone's queue times
3. Punishes no one
4. All-platforms-wide
Hammered to fit all that, the only remaining method is to raise solos to nearer SWF status, then rebalance killers around that. How to accomplish that is the real debate imo, and if any one gives a foook I'll gladly give my thoughts on that debate.

By that logic anyone who plays any game labeled horror long enough will no longer be horror or watch horror movies long enough shouldn’t be labeled horror anymore. So no it’s not silly.

When has DBD been horror as of 2021?
It's a hide and go seek game at best.
Also, the game literally feels terrible when playing solo.
In DBD Mobile, you at least get visual cues on when a killer is close by or what direction it's at.
We need smth like that for solo queue or this game will be dead before it becomes "not" horror.
3 -
The only horror is the current solo queue state, no thanks.
It needs serious changes and soon.

This game stops being 'horror' after 10 hours, like any other horror game. It's desensitization and it has nothing to do with soloq strength.
7 -
Yep,DbD never really was a horror game.
It's rather an asymmetrical mulitplayer game with horror elements
5 -
The horror side of this game dies after 50 hrs, the whole horror game argument is invalid for every game past rank 12.
Playing solo is not scary, it's just frustrating because you ask yourself: why am i playing with these people, why should i lose even tho i outplayed the killer consistently?
I want a fair match, both while in swf and solo, if i don't wanna play with my friends i shouldn't be forced to regret my choice.
But its all words and ranting because there's no way in hell devs can buff soloq. Some players will always crouch in a corner even if they are outside the tr and mmr is an illusion because devs (atm) don't have the knowledge to distinguish good players and bad players.

Bullshit. Someone just doesn't want to lose easy kills. Scariness and difficulty of the game are two different things. Some years ago, when playing survivors was way easier, the game wasn't more or less scarier. Case closed.
3 -
Except it was.
Game had atmosphere back then, you know.
Right now it's completely a cheap cat&mouse game.

No by my logic people probably wouldn't watch or play a horror game for more then 10 hours which most movies or horror series, which I cant even think of any good ones, are usually less then that. And anyone who's played horror games for more then that can probably agree that a games horror wears off after too much time, unless new elements are introduced which dbd hasn't had a new horror element introduced since it came out really.

Need a few much darker maps with barely any lighting, with more ways for killer to sneak up on you. More jump scares / environmental effects like lightning and thunder, scarier killers than the trickster which can't be too hard, also, what about a zero terror radius mode.

"Once you get into green ranks that fantasy fades and it just becomes a sport to win"
So this is unrelated to SWF. You want all solo queue players to have the competency of a Green survivor at best so they feel scared? They'd likely just feel frustrated and leave instead.
Also your ideas of seperating SWF into its own queue doesnt work because people play in groups of 2 or 3 as well.

Is DbD horror game? How?

LMFAO DBD is not a horror game except for the first three hours or so. It is a fun cat and mouse game with a horror aesthetic.
1 -
Lol imagine thinking playing as solo makes this a horror game, how old are you btw?
2 -
The game is hardly horror now. The only horror aspect are the stealth killers popping up when your working on a gen.

Yes we should have the game be unbalanced to one side because it's more "fun" or entertaining?
1 -
Does the mobile game connect with your PC/console game. Like can I earn blood points on mobile to use on PS?

That is why i wanna Chucky. Because he can make DbD really horror game. He is small, so he will give us so much jumpscares

Not everyone playing survive with friends are practicing for a tournament you know. Some people play with their friends because it's fun. Killers that complain about typical 4-man sweat squads probably don't realize that sometimes, its a just 4 man solo squad, and they're just better. A lot of people also only play in groups of 2-3, and don't bring super coordinated meta perks with BNPs or Insta heals. And sometimes SWF's still suck, because comms may be an advantage when talking about information such as "Who's going for the unhook?", but it's not going to help them loop and waste the killer's time if the killer is more skillful. I think the problem isn't with survive with friends, but actually bad matchmaking, a broken ranking system, and the fact that four survivors can bring a brand new part or other strong items and perks.

This was never a horror game. It’s always been horror themed.

Aren't you the same user who posted about how much you hate SWFs winning over you? This post sounds more like a cloaked justification for you wanting to stomp solo q players.
DbD would be much better off making the game enjoyable over scary. You want horror? Play Silent Hill 2 or a Puppet Combo game. BHVR's failed attempts at trying to keep the game scary only bog down the experience overall.
