Give Us Back Old Freddy
So, as everyone already knows, Freddy recently got nerfed. I personally doubt the changes will effect him too much, but what I'm mad about is that it shows the devs' ignorance towards his actual problems. The problem with Freddy wasn't that he was strong, it was that he was strong and boring.
Instead of making his power fun and interesting for both sides, they just gave him a nerf and called it a day.
But I digress, this wasn't what I made this thread to talk about.
No, what I'm TRULY mad about is the fact that they haven't given us a way to play as Old Freddy.
I've seen so many people asking to play as him again, and I completely understand why. Though Old Freddy may not have been the strongest out there, he was unique, there was no other killer like him.
Hell, why the devs thought reworking Freddy in the first place was a good idea, I simply do not understand.
All they needed to do is revert this nerf, and I personally believe Freddy would have been in a perfect spot.
Like, is it really that hard to give us an add-on, or a toggle of some kind to let us use Old Freddy's power? I see no reason why the devs haven't already done this, other than out of laziness, or stubbornness.
Hell what makes it even worse, is that they REUSED ASSETS FROM OLD FREDDY'S POWER FOR THIS NERF.
In King's video, at around 5:40 seconds in, you can see him hit a Dwight, and it plays the exact same effect as when Old Freddy would try to hit an awake survivor.
You guys have the assets, why is there no option to play as Old Freddy?

Freddy was a fun and interesting killer, who could be pretty strong in the right hands. He was the most unique killer out of the entire roster. Instead of undoing the early panic nerf from release, they just deleted him from the game.
Give us an option to play him again, please.

I think he got overly nerfed. The fact that almost everything about him got nerfed was overkill (even things he wasn't very good with already like pallets). If the ptb goes into the main game he is going to be in the bottom 5 killers imo.

Because a TON of people voiced their strong displeasure of Freddy, both Survivor and Killer. This is also why they're not bringing him back.

Exactly, all he needed were some small buffs and QoL changes, and I think he would have been a fine killer. But instead they gave us Mr. Generic Anti-Looper.

But there were also a ton of people who did like Old Freddy. And I'm pretty sure most people nowadays would gladly take playing as and against Old Freddy than Modern Freddy.

Against I think most people would pick old freddy since he wasn't a threat really, not because he was more fun.

Well that's why I said "most people". It's fine you like Modern Freddy, but that's why I think there should be some sort of way to play as his older version, because many people don't.

Imagine old freddy but survivors suffer from "incapacitated" while transitioning.
It would be perfect. Old Freddy gameplay without the shenanigans that made him weak

Well that's why if there was an option to play as him, he'd be buffed in some way. I think most people would rather play against a buffed version of Old Freddy than Modern Freddy, simply because Modern Freddy is pretty boring.

Even I had never play the new Freddy and only know the old one and never mained either of them, I feel with you guys. It's always sad if the devs decide to simplify things, how they did it with Freddy and many other things, just because they think some people will like it.

Back then, the complaints heavily outmatched the praise.

It's always the same by such patches:
-Something gets changed.
-Complaints starting to get heavy.
-People leaving if the changes getting not undone.
-Then some guys come up and say something like "everybody likes the new XYZ, curse the old one!".
-New players coming in and say the same, because they didn't know it better.
And that makes it harder and harder to explain the whys, while in the meantime, the game suffers because it got 1 step more simplified.
TL:DR I prefer to believe the old Freddy mains, but I don't mean that offensive.

Because I despised playing against him. What’s fun about a killer who can’t be seen until he’s putting you to sleep? Or a killer who has infinite wall hacks and can see everything you’re doing when you’re outside of his terror radius? Oh and if you wanted to deny him that, you had to wake up by failing a skill check which also alerted him to your location. He was just an incredibly bad designed killer. It wasn’t that he was strong, he was just annoying as ######### to play against. I used to disconnect against him as soon as I heard the lullaby. 💅🏻

Alternatively:
-Complaints are heavy about thing
-Thing gets changed in response
-People who liked old thing are now vocal about their disapproval of the change
-People see these new complaints and now are convinced that the old thing was changed for no reason

I thought about something today. The devs will never give us old freddy, and why would they? All that work to rework a killer just to throw it all away? No, that makes no sence.
HOWEVER..... Why not make a new killer with old freddy's power? Like a spirit who has to pull you into the spirit world to hit you? That would leave them with only the art development and perks to do, giving them time to fix current bugs and other issues.
I will say though, many survivors want old freddy back because he was not very strong.

Most of the complaints came from people that played against him during the free weekend.
People with less than 10 hours gameplay.

That is not what I am referring to. I am referring to all the complaints after he was initially nerfed that eventually led to him being completely reworked.

Me too. I just don't think it was fair of Behavior to completely cut Freddy's old power from the game like that and screw over everyone mained and liked him.

I already suggested we bring old Freddy with Robert England version of him and let New Freddy stay as melty face...Poetic.
I got into this game because of Freddy and mained him exclusively. I thought this game was fun and easy because of my ignorance and rank. After dominating, I worked up to red ranks, where I was met with a rude reawakening to Freddy and his weaknesses.
It really was very pathetic and sad how easily a knowledgeable survivor could toy with Freddy, specifically when they captured Freddy at gates by continuously waking each other up and never allowing Freddy the chance to hit, mocking, pointing and t-bagging him relentlessly. He could never push them out, only wait or DC.
I ate dirt for months to P3 and max/collect all Perks, research how to play better, looked for strong Freddy builds, experiment and studied the add ons (they vague info always bugged me about DbD). An finally, I was at a level where I could “win” most of games (the 4k) or at least not get completely dominated, even by a organized SWF.
Despite that, I still complained, just like everyone else, because he was obviously confusing and overpowering to the newly initiated but abusable to the average experienced Freddy vrs the Average survivor.
I never expected such a reaction though, they straight up removed Freddy and gave us a new Killer. I tried to get hyped and still main Freddy but he was too different. By then, I could honestly pick up and learn anybody else and have the same experience of learning a new killer, because that’s how different he was.
TL:DR
Bring back Old Freddy~

After his initial nerf he got little to no complaints from survivors. Main reason was, that his popularity dropped and very few people actually faced him outside of noob ranks.
I remember some people calling him boring, after getting a perfect 12 hook, double pip, 32k match. While others enjoyed playing against something else than Nurse on red ranks.

I miss when Freddy didn't have 4 powers and wasn't a literal snoozefest for both sides. He was unique and a fun challenge, both playing as and against him.

He just needed some QoL changes and not this whole rework.
I think the main issue was, that since so few survivors faced him, they never learned what his power actually did.

Obviously Killer mains complained way more, but Survivor mains (lower ranked ones) still complained about how he was miserable to play against. Miserable to verse for lower ranks, abusable versus higher ranks.

Exactly, Old Freddy wasn't as good as most other killers, but if played right he could still be strong.

Yeah, 50% debuff speed to EVERYTHING that STACKS for just falling asleep, seeing the survivors aura EVERYWHERE if a certain distance away and don't forget that he had add-ons to ALSO SLOW EVERYTHING DOWN. Yeah, no. Old Freddy was unbearable to anyone but those who played Killer. Old Freddy was new Spirit but even worse. (Edit: Just like they changed the New Freddy's add-ons from that bullshit slow-down add-ons that stacked with perks to make the game unbearable. At least now, he doesn't get a free aura reading still.)

Well, they obviously complained. Because they didn´t know how to play against him. Since he was a rare view, they didn´t learn to adapt to him. Experienced SWF players had an easy time against him. Using his 7 second timer to heal/protect downed survivors near the exit gate.

I miss you, old Freddy. We all do. You were unique in a way, no, MANY ways. I know I messed up, I did. I should have known a rework was unnecessary, all you needed was that nerf to be reverted and QoL updates...

You can probably convince them to get old Nightmare back, he was changed mainly for how many people disliked him.
So all you need to do is find a way to show that 51% or more of the playerbase across all platforms excluding mobile think that old Nightmare is more fun than new Nightmare.

I respect your opinion, but Behavior has changed a lot since Freddy's first rework. I doubt they'd put in the effort to give us a way to play as Old Freddy. Hell they'd probably already have done it by now if they were planing on it.

I too doubt they'd change him back, but not for the reason you believe.
I just don't think people generally dislike current Nightmare more than the old one.

I loved and mained old Freddy back in the days. Was his power a bit weak? I mean, before they increased the time it took to Self Care then yes he was weak when Self Care was meta. Old Freddy was more entertaining to play as and against compared to new Freddy who spams snares or drops dream pallets like nobodies business. I wish there was a way to play him again :(

Old Freddy doesn't exist anymore. To add back old freddy they'd have to completely recreate his coding, which they aren't going to do.
