Pig's crouch to make time go down
Dev's can you please fix this issue it's so dumb. I've had it happen a lot to me. Pig gets her trap on me. I get off hook to find a box and the pig comes to my box. Proceeds to chase me, but then. crouches and follows me so my time will start to tick. There is absolutely nothing you can do about this besides hold w and wait for death. It is the most boring thing I have ever played against and needs to be changed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you get in a chase if you're undetectable as killer? The timer only pauses in a chase, correct?
This is a bait post, and a poorly done one at that.
(or my memory is just trash)
8 -
No you cant sadly. Not with pigs crouch, but I'm pretty sure you can with ghostface and myers.
2 -
This is imo one of the least effective ways to play her, and evil as well. The survs with a trap on, especially active, should not be targeted. It's the survs who don't have one on that are doing gens.
If in chase I stumble across a surv on a Jigsaw box or running around they get slugged and I keep moving. Shadowing one surv to death should and prolly does cost her the match.
Will all her limitations and poopy add-ons she cannot afford to play that way.
3 -
I'm not saying I do I'm saying it happens to me a lot as pig and yes while ineffective it is boring for the survivor getting tunneled by the pig because they literally cant do anything to stop it, but just except their dead
2 -
You're correct. I just tested it.
But if the Pig uses this tactic she is certain to lose. It's very easy to lose 2 or 3 gens (or more) while chasing a survivor for two and a half minutes.
Oh, and you are very slow.
Oh, and you have a very bad POV. But it's obviously not fun to go against. Maybe they could change the crouch so that a chase initiates if a survivor looks at the Pig?
1 -
I think -- and if I'm wrong, someone please correct me -- the timer only pauses when the survivor is being chased or downed. Going into crouch and undetectable will make you lose chase (much as you get get stacks of PWYF with Wraith, let's say as an example, by cloaking).
The only issue is that, if a Pig player wants someone dead to a trap, they're probably going to make that happen, though that will likely result in them throwing the game.
The problem with the OP's request is simple. If things were magically changed to having the timer pause when The Pig is not showing being in chase with a trapped survivor, then the timer would ALWAYS be paused for trapped survivors for almost the entirety of a match, rendering the traps useless. If it were magically changed to pause when The Pig was in some proximity to a trapped survivor, then how would that work? If the distance was anything large (like a TR proximity, let's say), that would be completely unfair to a Pig who might be playing the game normally and happens upon survivors along the way who are trapped (imagine someone with an active trap that's paused happily working on a gen with immunity while The Pig is chasing someone else in the vicinity). If the distance was less -- let's say, 4 meters or so to prevent a Pig who's camping a box -- then that would actually be a BUFF to the timer, as the timer would actually be running during much of a normal chase, leading to Pigs who would then be able to actively chase after trapped survivors because it would be to their advantage with no real downsides.
It sounds like the OP had a bad Pig experience. While that isn't fun, it doesn't call for a complete rework of the trap mechanic.

I never said it had to be redesigned, but something to fix that issue would be nice. Like maybe make it when the pig is within 24 meters the time stops. It could be less but that's my proposal. It happens maybe every 4 pig matches for me and everytime it is frustrating. So ya I guess I did have a bad experience with piggy

what i find 'amusing' (note the airquotes) is that tactic only works if people insist on popping gens while someone's got a trap on. if people would go and just 99 gens, pig's got a problem:
cause she'd either have to actually down asurvivor and cut out the crouch tactic, or she'll have 5 gens pop in her face the moment the trap is off (this is something that i saw happen only ONCE, but it was glorious)
1 -
I only do it if a survivor is being a jerk. Because it is oh so satisfying.
I don't know how they would fix that though
0 -
I feel though that would be a thing that a swf would do but solo q that's maybe a 1 and 1 trillion chance that they 99 gens, but that is a smart idea.
1 -
Afius, they could make it a proximity thing were when the pig is within 24 meters could be less the trap deactivates because at that point when she is that close you know she's coming for you.
0 -
always perceived 99ing gens when someone's got a trap as the main tactic against pig.
Like, it prevents the trap from activating, it kinda counters 3genning (if everything's ready to go PING (except the traps) it doesn't matter where the gens are), and it keeps pig busy. Because she has to 'make her choice': tunnel the person with the trap on, go after the others, damage gens?
And even if everyone's got a trap on, as long as you don't pop a gen, you can go around, search the boxes, keep 99ing the gens and, yeah, only pop them when it's save to do so
0 -
That tactic would only work in swf though, solo teams dont have that communication to do so. It's a good tactic though if done right.
0 -
correct, this is bait
0 -
Just cause it costs her the match doesn't mean people don't play like that just to be a #########
4 -
No it's not bait. I do find it to be an issue, and glad more pigs dont do it because it's boring.
0 -
It doesn't need a fix as it's not a bug neither an exploit. That's just how it works.
0 -
Would you actually need communication to pull it off? You can see how far a gen has progressed and if someone's got a trap on, so I don't think you actually need to be told 'this gen is at X' or 'Y's got a trap on'
0 -
I would disagree. It's a thing that shouldnt exist because of one thing. She is chasing you and that normally makes the timer stop. Crouches doesn't mean she isnt chasing you.
0 -
Everyone's talking about the killer being "certain to lose" but what happens when you know the survivors last trap is by an important (or nearly completed) gen? Then it's free pressure. You just need to wait out the timer and boom a survivor is dead and a chunk of the vital gen is regressed.
Pig's crouch indeed needs a buff, but certainly at the cost of performing this scummy move. (please don't give the whole Amanda rigs the game argument, this is DBD not a movie.)
0 -
You most likely would since in solo q most of your teams are potatoes and might just think that you got pushed off so they pop it
1 -
And how does this trick make it as an argument against such mechanics? This feature is a part of her power.
"Shred attack doesn't mean demo is not hitting you, fix stbfl not losing stacks"? From my pov, those two cases are at the same spot of the bug-feature graph.
1 -
You fail to realize that the trap is suppose to stop ticking when you are getting chased. Crouching and following a survivor with a trap is still chasing the survivor but using a bug idk (Devs never said it was game design or a bug). Also correct if I'm wrong but GF and Myers can start a chase whilst cloaked or tied 1 aka undetectable just like pig when crouched, but she doesn't start a chase.
0 -
Yes, so?
The argument of "actually being chased" makes as little sense as "actually being hit" by killer's M2 for STBFL stack calculation purposes.
This feature is part of her power design.
Edit: btw, the intuition of chase event proc for some cases and not for others is that chase only works when the killer can hit you. Cloacked wraith and crouched pig can't attack, myers and gf can.
1 -
They already tried that in a PTB and ended up reverting it because it resulted in a pseudo-Whispers for Pig.
1 -
Wrong, crouched pig can attack with her dash so you have lost that arguement. Also devs have not said that is apart of her kit.
0 -
And cloacked wraith can attack by pressing m2 and then hitting, big brain time ...
Chase event depends on M1 hits, if this wasn't worded clear enough.
0 -
Then that's just stupid game design if it only starts chases when you can m1. I was also going to say that wraith uncloaked doesn't have the undetectable anymore and that's why he can start a chase, but there no point if it's based off m1 attacks. Pls dont try acting like I'm dumb with saying big brain time
0 -
you can still be in chase while crouched, it just makes it easier to follow people without being in chase for the sake of sneak attacks
0 -
I talking about when they crouch chase so you head will pop. They will chase you with a activated trap while crouched to make sure it pops because crouching doesn't start a chase.
0 -
Naw I wasn't accusing you I was just trying to tell why it is an inefficient way to play her, as well as mean af.
1 -
Must have been a baby pig. Its not wise to follow survivors with traps on their heads because the timer will not go down during it.
1 -
Yeah that's true, even though I don't play her that way or advocate it. Making sure that one unlucky surv has their head pop like that is part of the reason she has a mixed rep.
1 -
She crouched so the timer did go down because the game doesn't think your in a chase
0 -
It's not bait.
0 -
When the Pig plays like this, she can guarantee a kill, in the same way Leatherface can. The team basically has to rush the gens while the chased person loops the killer for 5 gens, and then maybe escapes through hatch. And that's difficult to do even with 4-man SWF.
0 -
it's difficult to do gens while the killer has no map pressure?
0 -
24 meters would be entirely too much. See my example above of someone with an "active" trap merrily working on a generator with the impunity of a paused timer while the Pig is chasing someone else who just happens to be in the general vicinity (or, in a SWF group, purposefully there). That's a recipe to make the Pig's trap ineffective as a slowdown, and it would be a huge nerf to her power. Less than that, and the timer might be running while the Pig IS actually following you, which would also be a problem.
One thing that's being ignored here is that, if the Pig is continually crouched and following you, they're moving at 3.6 m/s, slower than Nurse. If you're being followed by a continually crouching Pig, losing them shouldn't be a problem if you simply hold W. For them to stay with you, they're going to need to be upright, in which case it's a regular chase and the timer will pause.
It boils down to this: The Pig is like any other killer. If they want you specifically dead, they can camp, tunnel, etc. to make sure it happens. Instead of hooking someone repeatedly, if the Pig is blowing 2 minutes and 30 seconds to do that, they're throwing the match, unless the other survivors are ineffective. It sucks for the person taking the aggro, but it should end up a win for the team.
1 -
Not what I said. I said in order for that tunneled, head trapped person to even have a chance of escaping, they need to loop the killer for 5 gens and the other survivors need to know to rush gens, and find and call out the hatch to the trapped person, then all escape so that the trapped person gets hatch. There's no way that's happening in solo, and even with SWF that's a toughie. So Pig, in her own way, can guarantee a kill or 2 just like Leatherface, regardless of the tradeoff of the 2 or 3 other survivors escaping.
0 -
they need to loop the killer for 5 gens
I understand what you are trying to say, but I should point out that this assumes that the Pig is able to get her first down + hook, the Survivor is taken off the hook, and then the Pig finds that person again all before the first gen is finished. A decent bit has to go wrong for the Survivors and/or right for the Pig to make such a scenario happen assuming competent players.
1 -
Change "5 gens" to "the remainder of the gens" whether it's 3 or 4 or whatever. Happy?
0 -
I mean, the more you lower it, the easier it becomes to be able to hammer out the gens, get out, and give the last person a shot at the hatch.
0 -
It still sucks for the player being prevented from searching jigsaw boxes.
1 -
Its basically a pretty much uncounterable bubba facecamp. You WILL die by the beartrap and theres not ######### you can do about it. And it just sucks because the person being "chased" gets no points or anything they just die. Its a waste of time, gains the survivor nothing in the long run. And just feels ass.

This so this would be my response as well. π·π
So nice to see two of my beloved pig mains replying with such information on how this is a complete waste of time and such a boring way to play.
I have seen pigs do this and I just shake my head in dismay but I do love a good death by head pop on myself lol so I'm torn with my oh why play this way π and yay my head went boom π€―π
All I can say is most that main pig would never resort to this method maybe these pigs that are playing like it are not as confident so resort to cheap methods.
I can not offer a solution to this issue either unfortunately.

Oh wow I completely forgot they tried that, it made things a lot worse in that aspect from what I saw anyway.
Do you have any ideas /suggestions on anyway it could be changed but not kill her ability?

I know you have dealt with some not very nice pigs from your past posts and it makes me very sad as you are so positive here.
Here is a picture of my cat Jonsey hopefully he makes up for the crimes
BTW this is actually my cat not a meme he's amazing!

your cat has made all of these experiences infinitely better and suddenly pig is my favourite killer to face
1 -
Ghostface can run around at full speed. Why not Pig? She already has to deal with a low profile view.
0 -
If a pig is willing to waste 2 minutes for that...you guys should already be out of the match. Just continue doing boxes and get the trap off. If you know she's wasting time by crouching just open the box in her face, if she tries to pick you up off of the box it stops the timer.....
So....moral of the story....do the box anyway. Once she knocks you down the timer stops and she has to either hook you or go about the game normally.
You gotta use your brain when presented with stuff like that....just...relax....and do the box.
