How do you play without Whispers?
I can't for the love of god get 4k without it. There is always one guy left sitting afk on the hatch letting his teammates die and I can't find him without whispers. It's the same if I instead do find the hatch but the doors are on different corners of the match, I can't just patrol, it takes just 20 seconds to open the gate.
I lose people in the dying state too without whispers, and I don't know if someone is hiding in a locker, Whispers is like the full package, it's deerstalker + all those perks that tell you if someone is in a gen + that one gen that reveals someone that comes out of the locker
How do you even play without it?

I've never used the perk. If the last survivor gets hatch it doesn't bother me as it's RNG. My win condition is prevent all survivors from escaping through the exit gates.

I've definitely lost dying survivors without it at times, but not often. I find the actual whispering sound to be too loud, it drowns out the noises survivors are actually making.
Survivors noises are directional, whispers is not.

I love the perk, I feel lost without it
Crutch? Mayhaps 🤔

I don't care if someone escapes through hatch. That's still a win, since I could just slug for the 4k. And I don't find that Whispers helps me that much in most trials, even agaisnt stealthing survivors it often isn't that effective. And in the middle of a trial it's almost always going to be active.

'Whispers' is very effective, especially during the endgame if the exit gates are far apart. It's a very underused perk. Granted, there are better. However, it ought to get more credit than it's due, rather than a perk rarely even mentioned. I randomize perks anyway, but it is nice to have when it appears.

I used to run Whispers a lot when I first began playing killer. It's like a training wheels perk for killers and it's to build your game awareness over time like finding survivors at the start of a trial. At the end, sometimes you don't need it because you can literally see both exit gates from one spot. I wouldn't run Whispers to sweat for the 4k at the end of the game because I don't take the game near as seriously, plus it's sometimes nice to let the last survivor go if they submit or offer their item up.

Discordance is really helpful locating survivors. Also, if you're playing a killer with a smaller terror radius, M&A is really helpful too.

For 2 reasons:
1) I don't care if someone escapes through hatch.
2) I have ✨eyes✨
Edit: oh also I have this thing where Whispers prevents me from hearing things and seeing the perk lit up 24/7 sets my brain into panic-oh-my-god-do-something Mode and I'd just rather not deal with that

I use it on some killers, but more for its ability to let me find out where there's no people earlier in the match. It can save you time by letting you know if someone's in an area before you actually check it afterall.
It's certainly useful later on as well of course, but don't really care enough about that to pick the perk specifically for that reason.

Personal oppinion but i really don't like whispers. It's good at the start to pinpoint survivors locations and then i feel it just stays on constantly untill only 2 survivors are left and at that point i don't need whispers to win anymore.
I can see how it can be good but it's just too often a do nothing perk for me

I’ve just learnt to be hyper attentive to audio cues, and I pay attention to the crows a LOT.
Wondering which gate they’re hiding near? I go to turn around and head back to one gate, but notice right at the periphery of my screen a crow returning to its perch.
“GOTCHA!!!”

Doc. I play doctor

Whisper is a nice perk. It is useful no matter which rank are you but most of the time survivor gave hints about their locations. If someone is crawling and you left that person at the ground try to check the bloods that he/she left. I usually check breathings, crows and etc... If the last survivor is sitting on the hatch there is nothing I can do. For the exit gates I usually check the closer areas and so forth.
Overall Whisper is really nice perk but once you get adapted to most of the maps and knew what survivor can do you will not get to full usage of it.

People actually use that perk? 🤯

Whispers is actually an excellent perk when it’s used well.

When you play trickster sometimes you don't need whisperers to find out if someone is near, they just show themselves to you

I play Doctor too and Whispers is a key part of my build. Non-whispers Doctors use Static Blast to find survivors. I use it to guarantee madness level increase or confirm if they are hiding in a locker in my TR. 60s cooldown is too long for Static Blast. If it were 30s then Whispers wouldn't be needed as much. Matches last an average of 10 minutes. So you only get 10 Static Blasts per match essentially. If you waste the first 3 trying to find survivors then your match will be even shorter as you are probably not pressuring gens.

Idk how to play without it, i've always played without it.

Yeah same here, I have found alot of trickster's who have some good aim, compared to me who takes 60 knives to hit someone 3 times with his knives

I like Discordance but I found it to backfire in 2 ways;
1. Survivors didn't work together on same gen so it never goes off.
2. They start working on a gen together, I find them. They do it again, I find them again. They realize that I have Discordance and then number 1 happens again.

I do just fine with what I have and usually just run a range addon with, unnerving, lullaby, bbq, and overcharge and get 3 to 4kills almost every game.

Ouch....

for some reason this made me laugh way too hard

I prefer spies from the shadows more than Whispers since it gives more direction, not many people run calm spirit, and it works well on most maps (bodies multiple level maps but that info can still be helpful often)

Although I dont like Whispers a ton it is potentially the most used detection perk (even more than bbq)

Whispers is a great proximity tracking perk, but I've found myself never using once you memorize hatch spawns and predicted survivor locations.

I actually did a rift challenge for SftS and I used Doctor on Lerys. Static Blast and then increasing TR forced them to run and scare the crows.
I just hate when I'm on a multi-story map and it goes off above my head like on Midwich. I can't do much and sort of gives direction.

Yeah I think spies is overall a slept on perk

I don't think about physical space in terms of distances, so, when a perk tells me someone is within X meters, it may as well just say "Someone else is on the map." I have no idea how close or far that is.
As for how I play without being able to find the last person... I just accept that the last person might escape. It's not a big deal to me if they do.

Whispers is more than just person is on same map. If it activates then that person is 32m (assuming tier 3) within range. Well obviously they're not behind you since it just went off. So if its 32m diameter circle for your TR, your semi-circle in front is 16m which a survivor is somewhere in there most likely. You can move left and right. If Whispers turns off as you move left, then move the other way. Its a compass that points you in the right direction with relative certainty until you either 1. See the person or 2. See scratch marks as they run away.
If you can understand how to maximize Whispers you waste less time guessing and more time in chases.

Doc and Trapper are about the only 2 I run it on with any regularity, and I'm actually considering dropping it from Doc
I don't use it so much for finding people as to help with using my power more efficiently. When it comes to the 4ks... ever since the hatch rework I've cared less about slugging for 4ks. In fact, I've kinda cared less about escapes through the hatch in most cases.
There's just so many other clues you're given to help find people....

Its a good perk im just horrible at tracking so even if it goes off I never find them lol

All I hear is "They're somewhere on the map. They're somewhere on the map." Because I don't know distance. It's also not obvious to me that they're not behind me because, couldn't someone just run into my radius from behind me? Like, unless I knew for sure that the behind part of the radius had covered the whole map and all possible hiding spots? Which I don't, because I don't know distances?

Its not possible for them to move behind you unless you were moving forward at a slower speed than they were moving (i.e. deathslinger aim, huntress wind up, etc.) Or they activated sprint burst behind you to get closer for some reason lol You naturally move faster for all killers (4.4m/s is standard while all survivors move at standard 4.0m/s). Alternative is if you stopped moving and then yes they could move and activate Whispers.
Distance and geometry are key to really utilizing Whispers to the maximum. Its like small game but with 180 degrees vs. 45 degrees but with no cooldown and longer activation range.

Whispers is great for newer killers during the early game. But once you get knowledge of likely places survivors spawn and it becomes useless. It's also not very good during mid game because you're already in chases and patrolong gens survivors are near.

Agree
I've never used it myself, but as a survivor I've noticed the killer being obsessed with the area that im hiding in when I hear the TR. It's pretty poweful but I prefer to use my eyes like an actual predator.

We use perks like bbq or discordance.

Im more of a tinkerer boy myself. *silent saw billy sees your location* it procing basically infinitely because of ruin is nice.

A good rule of thumb is they generally spawn the furthest away from you in a cone like area so if you head that direction and then start at the furthest left or right and head towards the center of the cone you will likely find someone pretty quick.
I believe Raging Ryuga made a video on this a few years ago if you want a visual aide on youtube.
Now obviously there's times where you spawn directly in the center of the map (or very close to the center) so it's a bit harder to judge where the furthest area is to you but it takes practice.

You simply do not play without whispers

I see Whispers as more of a quality of life perk than a strong one. Generally it's not too hard to find people imo, and once you've found a Survivor the perk doesn't really do anything. It doesn't help you in a chase or help you snowball.
Also, there's situations where the perk is lit up constantly and doesn't really tell me anything. For example, on a smaller map like The Game, or when the last few gens are in a small area, or when I have a Survivor on the hook and I'm trying to find someone nearby.
It's a great perk at the very start and very end of the match, but feels meh for most of mid-game. There are just stronger perks to use imo.

It's amazing on Doc. If you hear the Entity groaning, just zap.
