I think it's more balanced now than it ever has been before (minus certain bugs, but obviously those aren't intentional). Between map variation, different killer powers, perk combos on both sides, I don't know that you can call the game as a whole killer or survivor sided. There are just too many variables in my opinion. I think we all just need to play the cards you're dealt and have fun with it if we can.

right now it seems to be more balanced then ever, and i have a fair challenge playing both sides, with current bugs (killer sided, pallets)

the new maps looks very nice for both sides, not as easy to get lost in the corn

Idk lately I been getting 3k-4k with basement build as trapper have not got less I would say it depends on the tiles spawn that why I'm running basement force them to play my style on any map

    Neither imo

Neither really. There's so many variables that neither can really be said to have the edge.

  • bobateo
    bobateo Member Posts: 368

    Probably neither.

So much depends on matchmaking and the RNG of the maps.

  • Warcrafter4
    Warcrafter4 Member Posts: 2,917

    The answer is it depends:

Maps can spawn with effectively nothing for survivors to work with making it a landslide for the killer and almost always a 3-4k.

While other times it spawns with so many god pallets survivors have to be trying to lose to not get a 3-4 man escape.

Also This is ignoring imbalance created by the current rank based Matchmaking.

Currently the game does not favor killers IF survivors are efficient with their main objective. There is simply not enough time for a killer to hook multiple survivors and prevent all gens from getting done.

However, with matchmaking being the way it is. Most solo matches are just not balanced enough where it tends to start favoring killer, because 1 weak link on a survivor team can spell death for everyone. Not to mention the number of survivors that still rage quit.

Mechanically Survivors have the advantage with objectives, though personal skill/teammates can hinder this

Killers are more pressed to play efficiently, but a good player can make any design feel OP

It comes down to many factors. Builds, maps, the killer (character), rng etc. affect the outcome of a match massively.

Generally speaking though the game is survivor sided on the highest level of play.

However since the vast majority of survivors are not good at the game (most survivors are bad at looping, have terrible decision making AND avoid doing gens) killers typically win almost every single match even when using their powers poorly and chasing a single person too long as certain things are honestly too strong against non-optimal survivors.

Slugging + proxying hooks (resulting in easy trade hooks even whilst defending near-by gens) makes it hideously easy to dominate nearly every match even when using the killer's power poorly.

Even though I'm slugging entire teams myself if I see a chance to do so I think particularly slugging should receive a(nother) nerf at this point as I noticed killers that have literally no idea how to use their powers correctly make up for it by slugging. (looking at you mediocre Nurse players who miss a million blinks but make up for it by infectious slugging)

In my opinion a killer should not even have the slightest chance of getting all 4 kills if they aren't using their powers well.

A 4k should reflect your dedication and skill/experience. It shouldn't be the typical result of a mediocre killer player's match.

Low level play is definitely killer sided but high level play survivors have a huge advantage.

  • Metzu

Only considering your average red rank match, winning as killer is far easier, especially when it comes to pipping. But, at the highest level, as others have mentioned, survivors are basically unbeatable.

  • Jasix
    Jasix Member Posts: 1,245

Neither. You will find survivor mains who say survivor and Survivor mains who will say killer.

I play almost 50/50 - more like 55/45 killer/survivor and each side has it's pros and cons when it comes to gameplay and balance.

All threads like this accomplish is a bunch of vitriol and hyperbole - which is the norm for about 80% of the threads on these forums.

So long as SWF is implemented as it is now, survivor sided.

  • Akito
    Akito Member Posts: 673

It is supposed to be survivor sided.

That's a fact it has to be that way. Wouldnt make any sense if Survivors couldnt escape by playing as a team and playing very good. No one would play Survivor if there was no chance of survivor except the Killer is high end dog poo.

The rest is not very easy to explain. There are so many random aspects and different circumstances that I had to write a novel just to clarify if this game is k/s sided.

To keep it simple: It's mostly killer sided. But once survivor play well and play as a team, some of them will win and this HAS TO be like that.

That's not sth that needs to be fixed, that's sth that needs to be kept.

The only thing that’s killer & survivor sided are the maps. IMO that’s how things are. DBD isn’t any “sided”. both sides got good perks nerfed & adapt to the play style of such nerf & find new viable builds.

Depends on the bracket, at extremely high levels of skill and with SWF the game does favor Survivors but almost nobody plays at that level, at entry level, bad and average level is Killer sided, at good level is quite balanced (assuming a neutral map, at good level, maps are the unbalancing factor most of the time).

Main problem is not the balance but the perception of it with how ranks work, you can be a bad player and reach rank1 playing against even worse players because pipping is not tied to level or rank you face or anything at all, you can literally get rank1 by smashing rank20 (obviusly the pool is too big for that to happen but still it could happen, smashing ranks20 do give double pips to ranks2).

The thing is you play a game against way better players, you lose 1 pip or even blackpip, then against awful players, you double pip, in the end you will reach rank1 no matter what. Here is where the problem lies, you have 3 sets of ranks1/2, the extremely good, the good and the average/bad. Now lets say you are one of the bad rank1 and get paired against good rank1, you are all the same rank but the other side is much much better than you and diferences of skill in this game are extremely noticeable (someone twice as better than you will outperform four times, not two times) so you get bodied, go onto the score scream and voila "but they are ranks1 and 2 like me yet I got smashed" so if you were same level and you got smashed that means the balance is at fault, equal levels should mean equal performance but no, the game sold you an illusion and made you believe you were as good as your oponent while in truth they were out of your league.

In the end people either realize that or come to the forums and demand absurd nerfs. I do hope MMR will at least mitigate matchmaking messes so people end facing people like them.

P.D. this applies to both sides.

P.D.2 Ive seen streamers rank 3 and 2 being absolute trash, awful players making beginners mistakes yet they are reds and whenever they get massacred by decent or good players is always the same mantra "damn swfs sweatlords" or "pffffff myers with brown addons on Badham is SO op...".

Low ranks - Killer absolutely stop and 4k at like 5 gen almost every match.

HIgh ranks in a SWF - Killers get bullied.

  • Entity_Lich94
    Entity_Lich94 Member Posts: 320

Overall its not really either sided. There are so many factors and RNG that can influence how the match is gonna go for either side that you cant really paint a black and white picture of it. If we're talking about the absolute best players then I'd say its slightly more in the survivors favour but there are plenty of thing killers can do now to actually stop them if they are good enough unlike back during 2016-2018 era

  • sulaiman
    sulaiman Member Posts: 3,219

The point is not even if it is survivor sided or not. The matchmaking is soo bad, that even if it were perfectly balanced otherwise, you either get a killer that outmatches you, or your team outmatches the killer, or you have rainbow ranks all around.

SWF makes a huge difference on skill level, even if a lot of people dont seem to understand that (or try to deny it in fear it might be balanced differently)

If at least half of survivor are solo, Killer Sided

3-4 man SWF with communication. survivor sided

there's other factor like map, perks, rng and luck

This is the best answer to this question I've ever seen.

Someone should honestly print this and hand it out each time anyone asks about which side is favored.

    SWF sided

  • Torsti56
    Torsti56 Member Posts: 259

    It depends

    Low rank: Killer sided

    High ranked: Survivor sided

    Solo team: Killer Sided

    Swf team: Survivors sided

Rng is heavily involved too. Good map for killer and good totem spots = killer sided, good map for survivor and good gen/totem spawns = survivor sided.

Generally this game is balanced when there has been buffs to killer vault speed/pickup speed.

I don't have a answer is this survivor/killer sided because rng and rank is huge thing when comparing things like this

I disagree with your Expert Tier and its killer sided. Did you watch some Rank 1 Killer Mains and how they perform? Basically you could watch SupaAlf and seeing him win in like 90% of the time...If he plays Nurse.

If you now watch other Streamers, which wont play the 3 best Killer of the whole Game, you will see, that the Time preassure is more on the Killer's side which means, its easier for the Survivors to escape.

DBD is Survivor Sided for many reasons. If you want to know more about that, i suggest you to watch thid Video, which will explain many reasons for my opinion:

It's all down to skill and play style. The sweatiest fare the best.

  • FFirebrandd

I have no idea who SupaAlf is.

I have however watched Scorpionz, a pig main, ArchdruidDrey who mains Doctor, Ralph Umbra and 7cmpwincess who all main Huntress, Dowsey who makes a point of doing 4k streaks on brand new killers on their day of release, Otz who is pretty far through his attempt to get a 50 win streak on every killer, Bronx and Kai who play variety, and a Deathslinger main who's name I can't remember. All of those people usually win. Do they have matches that don't go well? Sure. But all of these streamers having good results most of the time indicate that the game is in fact Killer sided at their level.

Hell I personally am at the lower end of the Expert level and I can bring Legion with none of the meta Killer perks and still have a very solid chance to win. Want to know why? Because the non mmr match maker *might* give me one Survivor who's also at the expert level. Unless I make bad choices, that one Survivor cannot carry the game.

Neither nor solo q nor killer nor swf everyone has a fair chance don't blame lost game on balance but your skills or lack of same practice is only ppl need in this game and I know blaming anything else but yourself is easier and more comfortable but ppl need to realize what they did wrong and do better otherwise we will be fighting over balance till 2050

But I still think that killers should be more of a threat.

Survivor sided and it has to be that way since they need a bigger survivor playerbase.

  • I personally don't really think it's either because each side has different views of winning. Sometimes you'll get 2 kills, and the two survivors that died would say that they win because 50% of their team escaped.
