Do you consider key escapes a win?
So I had a match where two ppl did absolutely nothing. I got 9 hooks, with only 3 gens done. Instead of then unhooking the Meg that did the 3 gens herself, going down twice saving them. I assumed theyd save her, even went across the map. Nope nada. They got hatch with a key from a chest with no plunders. I took this as a forfeit from them and as a win. I just feel hella bad for the Meg that did all the work.
had another match similar where the survivors 3 gen’d themselves badly. They were super immersed but I managed to kill 2 with 10 hooks... and as I went too hook the second one the last two escaped. No plunders again.
how do you take key escapes?

I take it as the survivor/s cutting off the end of the game for 5k BP. Not really a win, not really a loss. Kinda just sucks that it's even a thing.

Definitely not a win for the survivors that can just bring a key and M1 the hatch after being stomped by the killer all game long. And the rate at which survivors seem to be able to find keys in chests are incredibly suspicious. Most often as killer, survivors can entirely avoid being killed after 3-genning themselves if they find/bring a key to get two easy escapes in the killer's face. Even if you are able to shut hatch in endgame and patrol both exit gates, a survivor can still instantly get out with a key. It's just another broken mechanic to punish good killers that give survivors more opportunities to get an undeserved escape.

I see it as extra bloodpoints but not as a win really. I know I would be dead when I don't have it.

Key escape is a forfeit.

I honestly don't care.
Just stomped a bunch of survivors & one escaped via hatch after I found it and closed it. Fair play to them.
It is their only way out if the exit gates spawn too close together & it's a killer with the ability to speed between them

its more of a "too bad i had to use it" win. youre missing out on a lot of points

It's a petty win

If one escapes with the key in the end i see it still as a killer win if two or more escape nobody has won.
But as survivor i still take the hatch escape even when it means i didnt "win".

I always seen it as a tie as survivors escaping without doing their objective means while I failed doing my objective(Kills) but, they also failed to do theirs(Generators).
Or vice versa if I am the survivor.
Hence why I consider it a tie.

A key escape, to me (used to play both sides, but play solo survivor only atm), is a win for the killer (if one or two escape). You survived, but you still lost.
If 3 or for escape via hatch, that means they have done most or all of their objective, then its a win for the survivors. 3e happens a lot at the moment, because spawn rate for keys is very high, while at the same time camping and tunneling is really rampant among killers.

I dont care about Survivors escaping that way. If they only escape because of a Key, it is not my fault that they escaped, so I am not upset about it. It is not like I could have done anything better at this point.
I would not count it as a win either as Survivor, because they did not finish their Objective, but if they want to see escape = win, totally fine with that one. In the end, the game does not really tell us what is considered a win.

It's situational. A situation like you stated I'd call more a forfeit. A situation where a chest squad gets a 4 man escape through hatch versus a Killer who's been trying to camp and tunnel since 5 gens left- that's definitely a win. I'd also call it a win as Survivor if I was the Meg in your scenario, and I got out with a Key after doing a metric crap ton that game.
Generally, when playing Killer though, I generally just see hatch escapes as forfeits and a last resort then a win. (But this game also has a very loose definition of a win so its all subjective.)

I don't count them as losses unless every person escapes by key at the end of the round. Meaning all gens are done. I only count 2 or more out of the exit gate as a loss if I'm doing winstreaks. Keys refine this by being a cheap way out considering survivors only need to do 3 gens to get 2 people out. When in reality 3 gens is typically not too hard to do.

No, but not as a loss either...So i don't really know what i think of it.
Maybe i see it as a DC that has been paid for (consumes Dull/Skeleton Key or Milky Glass) to not be counted as a DC.

I consider them as an undeserved win for ignoring the gens, just like the last survivor who gets a free escape when no gens were completed. And even if the killer finds the hatch first, the survivor gets a third chance to open an exit gate.

I stopped thinking of this game as a win solely by leaving the gates. Yes, that is the ultimate goal but, I consider it a win when I either keep my pips/rank or gain a pip/rank up. That to me is a better indicator of a win.

It's more that I consider the game that occured "meaningless" rather than one side actually winning. Obviously, this only applies if multiple people escape via hatch before all the gens are done. If people escape through Hatch after all the gens are done, it's not that much different from escaping through the Exit Gate, and if only one person escapes through the Hatch because everyone else died, that's still a win for the Killer IMO.
Of course, all of this is subjective because the game really has no properly defined "win condition," so winning/losing in this game is basically whatever people feel like.

They, personally, survived so they, personally, won. Just like I still win if I get even 1 kill. I just win more if I get more kills. And the Survivors win more the more people escape. As it means they played altruistically.

As a survivor, pretty much this.
I'd take a hatch if all the gens are done anyway, but before then it feels like an emergency escape route rather than a victory. Most of the time if you're using the hatch before all the gens are repaired, you're likely not scoring too high anyway, so it's kind of a consolation.
As a killer, it's frustrating, and I'd like it if hatch escapes using a key awarded some kind of consolation BP bonus, because it's entirely outside of your control.

depends on the situation but for the most part no I don't count it as a loss in my head more of a draw since most times a key escape is the result of them having no other option and getting lucky or using an offering. Does it bug me a little, feels like a cheap way to end the match and never feels good. I certainly never feel outplayed by a key escape.

What evens counts as a win?
Escaping? I can do that without contributing anything to the match.
Achieving X amount of points? Can easily be achieved by performing certain actions (I hate hook-farmers).
Pipping? An imperfect system that's too reliant on the your team-mates performance.
A key offers an option to escape early or in dire situations (I occasionally take one if I feel my teammates are going to be potatoes), but I only count it as a win if I contributed enough to the match.

I absolutely consider it a win.
Sometimes it's a win even if I die because my play made sure others get out.
Sometimes it's a win if others die and I manage to get a hatch.
A win is a win, if I don't get sacrificed or any survivor escaped it's a win in some small or big way. Sometimes just getting to that hatch with a key is an entire trial in of itself. I've had some very very close games where one wrong move would be the difference between death and keying out. Sure it's a 'loss' in that we didn't leave out the main gate, but it's a win in that we left with something anyways.
If I had fun, if something happened that got my blood pumping or we had something to get hype over it's a win really. So yes a key escape absolutely counts.
The killer can beat their chest all day and scream to high heavens that they actually were the real winner because we couldn't have won without the key but the terms of victory are a sliding scale.
"You only won because you tunneled." "You only won because you had dead hard." "You only won because you were on spirit." "You only won because you found a key." People will always find some way to pat themselves on the back and decide "I'm the real winner." Hell my entire post is saying I do it too. There's no real 'fair' way to win because if someone lost they're bitter, if someone won they're going to defend that win.

I use franklin's and make sure the key is gone so they are force to play the game normally. And if you want to prevent survivors from getting the hatch just slug them before they get to 2 gens. True this play style is dbag moves but at the same time keys are too.

It really just depends on the survivor(s) who escape and what their vision of a win is.
Personally if I make it out with a key I consider that a personal win. In most cases when this happens, our team has been absolutely obliterated by a good killer and if I happen to get a dull/skeleton key from a chest then it's fair game imo to get out through hatch. Even after they close it in some instances.
If 2 escape through hatch it can be like a tie because of the 2 - 2 idea.
Idk most times when a key is in play from what I've seen it's close to end game anyways and it's just a shortcut when things are going really bad. But it can also be used when things are going good (Idk why you'd want to end a good match prematurely though).
Also never forget some people actively attempt the 4 man escape through hatch with key for the achievement.
