So, why is resurrecting old thread frowned upon here?

Last night I responded to a thread that happened to be a few years old and immediately got flack from another member. I made a slightly sarcastic comment about how in the future I’ll stick to making threads about nerfing NOED like a lot of people do, and then went to bed. This morning I wake up to find that I had a response but then found that the entire thread was deleted. Most message boards frown upon spamming and cluttering up the site with identical threads, but not this one. In fact, it apparently supports the practice. The question is: WHY?
