So, why is resurrecting old thread frowned upon here?
Last night I responded to a thread that happened to be a few years old and immediately got flack from another member. I made a slightly sarcastic comment about how in the future I’ll stick to making threads about nerfing NOED like a lot of people do, and then went to bed. This morning I wake up to find that I had a response but then found that the entire thread was deleted. Most message boards frown upon spamming and cluttering up the site with identical threads, but not this one. In fact, it apparently supports the practice. The question is: WHY?

It's frowned upon in every community not just this one. There's no sense in purposely starting up years old threads like a necromancer. Likely whatever the topic was about is irrelevant today if it's that old.

It's considered to be necro'ing a thread. And as DbD is a live game where a lot of changes get made, commenting on a thread from a few years ago when often the basis of the thread has changed makes the posts irrelevant.

Most forums, from what I understand, look down upon necroposting. It's not a thing exclusive to here.
12 -
Because of how often the game changes necroing a thread brings up more clutter and confusion from current topics. Especially if it was a couple years old.

My question is.
How do you even find these 2+ years old threads in the first place?
I don't care if someone reopens a thread that's from 2016.
I just make a slight remark "Whomst open this 2 year old thread" and move on. Meh, I just find it funny.

But checking a years old thread and seeing half the posters are banned people is like reading an history book, they are our forefathers long gone and a wake up call of our fate.

Necromancy is taboo and can lead to the zombie apocalypse.
12 -
If that’s the case then they should just make it so anything older than a specified time gets deleted or locked. Otherwise there’s no point in keeping them up.
But yeah, new threads on NOED and keys every half hour is waaaaayy better.

If you have something you feel needs to be said then simply make a new thread. Why take this personally?
2 -
Lol I just saw you name. Very good sir.

Who’s taking it personally? I just think that it’s better to add to an already started conversation than to glut the board with an identical thread, that’s all. Otherwise, why even have an option to perform a search? And as I said, if they’re there just for informational purposes then lock everything beyond... I don’t know. What’s the unwritten rule on how old is too old? A month? 6 months?

I've accidentally necroed threads on other forums from like 10 years previous. :D

Mostly because the necro'd thread is most likely pointless now. And it just adds a confussing element to the front page.
It happens and it's sometimes funny to watch the chaos rise afterwards. If you don't do it like constantly it's not that big a deal.
Btw bonus points on the name lol

I've never understood the rule either. That said many forums do it.

Okay, that's actually quite impressive. I'm so nervous about doing that that I check and recheck the last post's time stamp constantly

Let the dead rest.
1 -
Indeed. It is sad to see a lot of the people who were on the forum when I joined are no longer here :(
2 -
We only post about survivor perks that should be nerfed around here. And once we see a post that its getting reworked, we target the next perk
1 -
It's kind of better to just make your own. Because of how dated the previous discussion and posts are they might not be relevant.

Can't wait for this post to return after 2 years.
11 -
Dude right?!? Ya think it's a narrow well thought out search, next it's down a five year old rabbit hole...
1 -
Not all of them, the off-topic ones aren't. Someone just resurrected a thread of mine that's 1 year old about Yui's butt, it's still there
1 -
Didn't you know there's a quota that has to be met every week? Gotta have a certain number of NOED, DH, DS, and hatch threads, otherwise the whole forum will be deleted

Ah, Count Vampyr. We meet again my friend.
I literally saw the title and thought "surely that's got to be him, right" and it was.
Personally, I didn't mind the necromancer magic you pulled there - but I guess some people didn't see the humour or the good gesture of avoiding cluttering the forum.

Topical.

Speak of the devil and he shall appear.

Indeed. Our necro lord has appeared.
I just hope my thread doesn't get removed, I'm proud of all the positivity in it.

i just join this forum and necroed threads from 2 years ago. but dunno why i got flack from another member? i leave a comment just to want to sharing my story about survivor plays. they say "please don't revive year old thread" and "Why are you using the search function? Look how old this post is!". I was like "...sounds this forum didn't really welcome with a new member huh? Maybe i should leave :)"

The irony of necroing a thread about necroposting.
1 -
Again, this is such a stupid thing for mods to ######### about. If you don’t want old threads resurrected then get into the habit of locking or deleting them. Simple as that.

Let's all promise each other right now that we'll continually bring back this thread.
