Why do errors out of your control result in matchmaking bans still?

I got downed during a match and was being carried to a hook when my screen got covered in a "Network Error" while I can still literally see the killer taking me to a hook and hooking me. I pressed "OK" and apparently it just disconnected me from the match and took me to the start screen. I was still connected to discord and literally everything else, still talking to my friend, and they said I was disconnected. I had to restart the game, and I was greeted with a 5 minute matchmaking ban and no bp earned. Granted, 5 minutes isn't that bad to wait out, but I missed out on a lot of points, and if it happens again for some odd reason, the matchmaking ban will be longer. I NEVER DC manually for any reason whatsoever.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? I think it's just kind of bogus that there isn't a flag for network errors, but I guess that's because someone could just pull their ethernet cable and get away with it? I'm just not sure. Normally I just get these errors once in a blue moon and only at the menu screen.

EDIT: I'm now hearing that other friends of mine are getting disconnected for the exact same reason, too. This is annoying.

I'm now hearing that other friends of mine are getting disconnected for the exact same reason, too. This is on top of the fact that with this patch came bloodweb bugs with event items among other things. This is annoying.

Yep. Thought it was just me. I play with a wired ethernet connection and keep getting kicked out randomly. I suspect a bug is causing this. Oh well. Time to play another game... for now.

I just got it myself, I got kicked out but the person playing on the computer next to me did not. Both wired connections, same router. Really don't understand why that would happen or what the bug was, but if all of us were getting it at the same time there has to be something weird going around.

Because the game can't really determine if you d/ced because of steam servers going down or if you turned off your internet briefly.

It sucks to get a penalty for things out of your control, but it shouldn't happen often enough that you have a huge d/c timer.

I hope not! It seems I'm most definitely not the only one getting these errors. If it is a Steam thing, I hope they fix it soon. I'll just wait and not play for a while and see if it's okay later.

It happened to me once and that was a while ago so if it does happen again at least it's just a quick 5 min break to go grab a snack or something.

Yup been getting such errors for years now on Xbox. Stream stays up, party chat unaffected, but tossed from game and have to restart everything. To bandaid it I restart the game every 3-5 matches.

Is it possible console life has infected y'alls PC's? ;)
