Low ranks are amazing (just be nice)

So, for a bit of context I've been rank 1 killer for 2-3 years now. I'm well acquainted with the sweat and toxicity (but also the instant queues baby). As we all know recently there was a small... fiasco, with rank reset and people were sent significantly further back than they should've been.

Well, I'd let someone else play on my account for a bit and they'd gotten me a bit below rank 1. Rank reset hits and suddenly im rank 19. Obviously I'm currently taking the time to grind out some achievements and be as nice as I can (may Skilled Huntress please perish with immidiately effect) but I played a couple of serious matches with my main build and killer.

And oh my word it's an entirely different world down there.

Firstly, grey and yellow ranks take a long ass time to matchmake, but I don't think that's news to anyone.

The number of times I've seen red ranks in the endgame screen is also incredibly scary and I dread to think what the case would be if I was actually new.

The survivors are so much nicer there. Do you know how nice it feels to see 4 other people say gg in endgame Chat? So far not once have I seen someone wish my family die of a horrible disease or drop every slur under the sun in an attempt to insult someone bevause they lost! I've even had people add me on Steam just to wish me a good week. Its glorious.

Being able to go into games playing relaxed, get 8 hooks quickly and farm points with everyone else is such a nice experience.

Honestly, as bad as this may sound, it's gotten me a whole lot more motivated to play dbd again. Being able to actually have fun while also ensuring other people are able to play the video game they paid for and get Bloodpoints? It's a great feeling. Is almost forgotten that people bring wholesome actually felt nice.

Point of this post? Not a clue. If you're sent to low ranks on accident don't bully them I guess.

I didn't even budge... Still 2s1k. I did spend 2 days forcing my rank down only to discover at r9 you safety even if you never hook anyone. Then I shot back to R1 within a couple of hours because survs below red are really that bad and ranking is too easy....

I wish they just released MMR after the last test.

I wish I could start going for Adepts, but the last time I was legitimately below Rank 4 (other than old Reset) was in early 2019 and I wasn't interested in achievements.

I did not get the bug :(

I got lots of groups with 3 reds and a yellow or brown survivor attempting to bully new killers. Let's just say they didn't have fun or get any clips for a yt montage and usually ended up salty with a DC

I was blessed I didn't get much of that. Yeah there were a lot but in comparison to the rest of the actual children I was facing its okay for me (not for anyone actually new to the game though).

It's just nice being able to relax even if every game is a pip, so I know I'll be back at rank 1 before I know it

I got resetted to rank 9 as survivor 2 times lately because i don't play it as often as killer and only solo lately aswell. Not exactly low rank but because of matchmaking i've seen a lot of yellow rank survivors and killers. I also played with a friend for a while who never got past rank 15 (then stopped with the game).

My experience is, that survivors are much nicer, but i think part of it is that they're more scared and not as confident in their abilities as red ranks. They still fear the killer and the game is more of an adventure for them than some sweaty sport. I've also seen much less toxicity, obviously these people don't have this toxic relationship/ addiction with the game that a lot of >1k hours red ranks have and which causes a lot of frustration and toxicity.

Killers on the other hand camped a lot more, i think for the same reason, they're insecure and don't trust their abilities because of crushing experiences with red rank teams and rather stay near hook and wait for them to come. It also works consistently in these ranks.

There were some really frustrating moments because of missing game sense (letting me go into second stage without any need for it) but besides that i enjoy my green/purple rank games after reset so far.

Competitive games always bring out the worst in people. The ranking system is probably doing more harm than good.

this is why i stay at green ranks and would rather not have MMR, low-mid ranks are the spice of life for DBD and seeing that go would be sad

Sometimes you can encounter a low skill bully squads on low ranks. It feels so good to destroy them. They smurfing back expecting an easy games but get a hardcore rank 1 killer that so ready to all their stupid #########.

Must admit, although the reset bug has been a pain for many people, I had some fun matches last night and met a lot of new people who I'd normally not meet due to matchmaking. So it's been pretty cool from that side for me.

Yeah, it is a whole different world down there. And unfortunately, it is way beyond my reach, as I got sent back to Purple Ranks.

I wished I went back to rank 20 to experience it again and to relax a bit more and not be angry nearly most of the time.

I got reset from 1 to 20 as killer and have had the opposite experience. I'm a try hard though so maybe the survivors were just salty. At rank 1 survivors usually don't say much.

I take it easy because I don't wanna ruin people's experiences, we need new players in the game,

I've enjoyed being a rank 17 survivor for the first time in months. But unfortunately my killer only went from 5 to 7...

I never understood why anyone would want to get to red ranks anyway to be honest. It's generally the place where people take the game way too seriously. I think the perfect spot is between purple and green, or that's certainly my favoured rank. It has the perfect balance of fun and challenge.

Totally agree. The best experience I have in this game is around green ranks. Survivors know what they're doing, generally, but they're not dicks about it.

Unfortunately hitting purple tends to put me with red ranks anyway.

Really, I'm always baffled at how sweaty and malicious people get after rank reset just to get 'back' to red ranks, and how they only ever seem to mock new/casual players.

Like, honest question to everyone upset at the rank hiccup: are you going to lose a vital organ if you take things easy from time to time?

I don't know why people are upset these are the best games I've had in ages, I enjoy giving people a fair + fun game so I don't see why people sweat so much

I feel so bad for the actual low rank killers I've been facing. Can definitely tell what would normally be a low rank killer v one that got the reset bug and should be high rank. I feel like such a bully with the ones that are committing to chases they shouldn't or can't even hook a person all match. I keep giving them kill at end because I can't imagine these matches are feeling nice to them.

I guess we're lucky on console as we don't have that achievement thankfully!

Yeah, that's where it starts getting rough. I tend to just meme around at that point with a weaker killer, normally Legion just for farming bloodpoints!

That and the occasional red rank swf that ass blast me into oblivion!

I played last night and can confirm, there are actually good sports around the lower ranks. They actually COMPLIMENTED me like wth man. It is pretty uncommon for them to actually praise me for slaughtering them, usually I get death threats and the classic "Get a fricking life you absolute trash killer main".

There were only two matches where the survivors were salty, at their teammates. One guy was just going AFK randomly but then would move once I started to chase her. The other game, the survivors were just incompetent and did not go for a save and let one person die while the other person went to struggle.

As survivor i can say green ranks surprised me. I had a match with a facecamping Bubba and everybody did gens and the person on the hook didnt kill himself. So two escaped. In red ranks many just give up.

I played one match where a rank 20 trapper went against 2 rank 2's me as a rank 12 and a purple rank.

This is a generalisation of course, but red ranks get cocky. They think they know the game so well, but are in fact blaming their failures on other parts of the game, like "camping bubbas" or "stridor spirit". So they give up or DC over the smallest of issues that offend them.

This isn't a red rank I know (again, it's a generalisation, and who knows what rank any of these people were two days ago) but this is the sort of thing I mean, that you see regularly in red ranks and not so much in the lower ranks. You can probably tell from the picture alone, but Feng with the key was caught by Ghost Face about 20 seconds into the game, where she promptly DCd.

I haven't blocked names out, because the other players were totally fine, and you can't actually tell what Feng's name is because two characters failed to display.

It was actually one of the better games I've had in a long time, honestly thought I was dead on several occasions, and the GF would have got a lot more points if he had a fourth player to get a couple of hooks and some chases out of.

I forgot how crazy green ranks and lower are. Ever since the bug, matches have been one of a kind. All kinds of silliness that I took for granted long ago.

    I wanna stay. 😔

I was doing some killer rituals last night and the rank 20 survivors were clearly all new. They immediately and recklessly went for unhooks, swarmed anyone I downed, ran away from me in totally straight lines, etc. I did my damage and whatnot and also tried to sort of do various things to help them learn from their mistakes but ultimately I went easy and deliberately let them all live. Let them have the points and get started off with a positive experience. A couple players did that for me when I started out and I haven't forgotten how it felt.

On the other hand I also had a rank 20 survivor teammate working with the killer and spamming "ha" after the match so I can't speak highly for everyone at that rank, LOL.

Everyone's usually pretty nice when they start this game and then it's just a test of time whether they fall into the toxic cycle or not lol.

Thankfully, I didn't get effected by rank reset. Still red rank with both sides.

Think it has to do with if u logged in shortly after the reset / on the rank reset day? I didn't play yesterday for example. I logged in today and my rank was unchanged.

I honestly didn't want to play if my teammates and my opponents were rank 15-20.... Thank god it did not happen. Gives me flashbacks from the 1st time MMR went LIVE

That first part is awesome. I won a game against a killer yesterday (Wraith in Gideon's) which was a really great back and forth, lengthy match. The end, between he and two other survivors, was a nail-biter. Ultimately one escaped but he hooked and killed the other, who was a really good Claudette. After the match I said "aw man, Claudette deserved to live. Great game though, everyone was good". The killer had some fun by saying "They told me to do it! IT'S THEIR FAULT" after which I congratulated his skill. He thanked me, saying that he'd recently moved from PS4 to PC and thought he sucked. I told him that no, he did a good job despite our escapes. "Thank you"s and "GG"s all around.

I wish every game could be that sportsmanlike.
