So, honest question
Can we set swf to a two player limit for now on?
I'm obviously joking, but stuff like this is just the day to day basis in dead by daylight at this point. I know the devs can't do anything, but if they do care about the game, they gotta know stuff like this will scare off newer players. Earlier today I got to play the game with my friend and his kid. We ran into a red rank pig. We were around 20 - 16. I wish I got a screenshot of that, but after that, he told me he wasn't interested in playing with high ranks.
This isn't anything new. Which. Is. Bad. I do care about dead by daylight and this post isn't to insult the developers who have been working hard. But, in my honest opinion. They need to stop focusing on three month gaps for new killers and focus on some major issues, I love new things as much as the next person, but the game needs a health update instead of a content update if that makes sense.

The biggest issue there was matchmaking, and more specifically all those people that think fast wait times are more important than fair trials.
It's funny how most of them aren't rank 10.

But at least now the game quickly finds matches, so I'm happy but angry at the same time lol

Personally I think this game needs a crisis that causes the player basis to dip into the hundreds. Only then when it's on the verge of death will they stop producing half baked new content and focus on game health. If the crisis causes the game to actually die well it had a good run.

Whatever happened to MMR or "Skill based match-making" as they called it? Was the exact situation not meant to be addressed as a result of it?

That's what makes me nervous. I don't want the game to die. I'm sure they're aware of the issues. They have to be.

The problem is that something like this normally needs half a year+ worth of time to pendle itself out and they would need to implement something to protect newbies at the beginning. But the acclimatization time alone would annoy people so much that behaviour would get scared and roll back the SBMM like they did after their first two trial runs lasting on day each.

I think it did work for a little, but something caused it to bug out. I'm imagining that's what happened, this past year has not been kind to the developers or us

I'm sure they are aware and that's what worries me. This game being their only cash cow you'd think they would take better care of it. What else are they going to make money off of? Death Garden :P

The devs are in a hard place though because long wait times scare off new players just as much (if not more in my experience) as unfair trials. In the case of your friend he knew the game was unfair and unbalanced but you could also explain that that is not always the case.
In 2020 (PS4, pre-crossover) I tried to get three friends into the game. I wish I was exaggerating when I say that we waited 10+ minutes for each round. Then the rounds would last less than the wait time and then we'd start over again. They tried it in pairs and saw mixed results on faster times but inevitably gave up because they felt the game was dead and that they were spending more time waiting than playing.
I think that they are damned if they do and damned if they don't, unfortunately! And I don't think they know what the answer to the problems are.

While that's extremely true, it doesn't hurt to at least give it a shot. People can get impatient, you can never change that. It's built in our systems, but looking at someone's impatient request and backing down allowing for issues like these to get away isn't worth it. In the long run, it might hurt a bit, but the healthy changes will allow it to blossom and hopefully overcome these issues. But, again. You make a phenomenal point, I just don't think that it's enough to warrant an excuse to avoid what would ultimately be the right thing

Exactly! You hit the nail right on the head! Everything you said is completely and utterly true. Even with "I don't think they know the answer to the problems anyway" that's what I want to focus on if you don't mind. They don't, not saying that as an insult, no. Quite the opposite actually, we all go through this. Everyday, whether it's work or home, we sometimes get stumped at something that just takes us back for a while. Which is my main point, I believe that they need to stop with their ever creeping three month deadlines and focus on the core concept of their game. It's hard to focus on a few big elements while constantly being stuck on a deadline, for their and the game's health. I believe they need to stop with the deadline and look at the big picture. Everything I say is NOT an insult to their intelligence, their work, or their competence. I want/will reiterate this point a lot so if the off chance a dev sees this post, they'll understand that this isn't some jerk crapping on them.

Another good point, dead by daylight is Behavior's huge source of income, which makes me think that they believe if their three month deadline doesn't meet their quota, they'll lose so much money. I personally don't believe it, I think it's a fear that they put themselves in to. Which, understandably, if I was in their shoes, I'd do the same.

I don't think what you're suggesting is a bad idea at all. At the rate that they put out new chapters (which is impressive and appreciated) in an attempt to keep the game fresh and new players ever-joining I can't imagine it is very easy to also manage the existing content. It would probably have a really positive effect on the opinion of the community as well as the game itself if after the RE chapter they came forward and said that instead of new content they wanted to focus on pushing out some updates/patches to the game itself.
I would personally love that! And they could put out a new Rift if they want to satisfy the desire for new items in the game and let people grind for skins and charms while they are improving matchmaking, hitboxes, and other commonly known issues the game has.

You are also right but the devs are too scared to care about the long term and don't look far into the future. Or rather than the devs it's the management of the company. They behave like Ubisoft, ea or activision in trying to spit out new shallow content in the shortest amount of time to generate profit (another cod, assassins creed, FIFA or battlefield with minimal changes to the gameplay but setting and plot). Every 3 months(?) A new chapter and in between a bunch of useless cosmetics.
They should look at other long-term games like wow, lol or r6s (Ubisoft I know but hey) where the team behind it did some amazing and sometimes drastic changes to the game to keep it fresh and help it's health

Again, you're exactly right. I think with Dead By Daylight's partnership with Resident Evil, they'll have a huge gap to work on special projects, I kinda feel this nudge on the back of my head that they've been planning this or at least thought about it anyhow. Rifts, skins, and other nice goodies could and can keep their game a float economically as well. If they did more art contest, they could also bring it a lot more revenue both community and income at the same time while theoretically doing less work.

You are probably on to something!
I really hope that you are right! This game is fantastic and has a community of fans who love it and invest their time and money into it still after five years which is saying something for this type of game!
With the updates in graphics that they've done and continue to plan on pushing and a little bit of focus like we've been talking about then this game could easily survive into the next gen of consoles!

Trying to argue against your point is a fool's errand. Because it's true. What you said is actually why I made this post, in hopes I can spark some chain to show Behavior that we do care and believe that new isn't always better. I know this is a fruitless endeavor, but trying to quit and let this game endure more poison just hurts. I guess I'm a softy for passion projects that aren't cash grabs.

I agree, I've been playing since late... 2017? I think I said 16 in a different post, my memory is foggy, at first I shrugged this game off, but I quickly fell into the game. I fell into it's web and I refuse to leave. It's funny, a lot of people always said they'll leave, but they always returned. I don't blame them, Behavior really did make something special and I am hellbent on trying to keep this game going. I'd love to work at Behavior's office
