The Resident Evil Killer - A Speculation

Vulgun Member Posts: 439

The Resident Evil chapter is fast approaching; in 9 days, we will finally find out who our Killer, or possibly, Killers, will be for the chapter. Here, I want to make a thread regarding speculation until that day arrives, and I hope we can all discuss our own opinions on who would get in and what the reception to the character may be upon release based on the comments here.

I'll go first regarding a few key characters that've been mentioned many times as possibilities, as well as why some can work and others literally would not work and may not be in the game. I'll even provide one character that would work well but nobody has ever mentioned that much before.

Tyrant T-103 (Mr. X) - The Tyrant

The T-103, more well known by the nickname "Mr. X", is a tall and imposing figure within the Resident Evil series and the originator of the very well-known pursuer creature we know in horror gaming today. He's the classic video game pursuer and has an easily recognizable appearance that sends shivers down peoples' spines.

Known to stalk Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield throughout Raccoon City's police department, sewers and laboratory in the events of Resident Evil 2, the character became a fan and company favorite of Capcom, especially with its latest appearances in Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil: Resistance.

At first, this behemoth would seem to have no sort of main ability that could be used as a Power, but I actually dare to disagree. His brute strength for busting through walls, his ability to simply catch up with you from anywhere and cut you off, even his ability to know where you are at almost anywhere, these are simply the start of what you could do with him. Think more about it and he has a whole plethora of abilities that could be congregated into one ability with multiple passives! Think of the possibilities.

As for his chances, considering that he is arguably the most recognizable antagonist in the series right now, alongside the likes of Nemesis or Albert Wesker, he may end up being our Killer, or maybe one of them, if BHVR is brave.

Nemesis T-Type - The Pursuer

The Nemesis T-Type, also known mostly by Nemesis, is an even taller and more ferocious variant of the Tyrant model we see in Resident Evil 2. An upgrade in every way both mechanically and in-game, Nemesis plays no games in regards to the hunt.

Known to chase Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira in Raccoon City during the initial and end parts of the outbreak, he became a fan favorite to everyone out there for how intimidating and utterly horrifying he is, alongside that one classic word:

"S.T.A.R.S."

Due to being an upgrade of the T-103 we see in Resident Evil 2 (not counting the remakes; he's an utter downgrade in 3 Remake), he has access to abilities and weapons that the original Tyrant did not have. The ability to grab characters from long distances to drag them back, the ability to roar and stun others, the ability to accelerate towards his targets at a moment's notice, the ability to send long-ranged tentacles into the ground and attack his enemies, and even a [expletive] rocket launcher! The possibilities are just about endless with this pursuer and you know it.

For his chances, he about has an equal chance of getting in just like Mr. X, due to his history and the scares he produced back in the day.

Alcina Dimitrescu - The Vampire

The newest addition to the franchise's cast of recognizable characters, Alcina Dimitrescu hails from Resident Evil Village, where she hunts Ethan Winters within her castle's walls.

That's about it, actually.

See, the thing about Alcina Dimitrescu is that she is horribly lacking in all departments that aren't sexual appeal. She lacks the scare factor, she lacks that kill potential that the Entity seeks, and she also lacks the most crucial thing for any potential Killer in the game...

She lacks a Power.

For her chances of getting in, she's probably the least likely character to get in because she's not original nor is she terrifying; her game of origin isn't even that terrifying since it's more of an action game than a horror game, and she's just...there. She doesn't really have much to do in that story and definitely wouldn't do well for The Entity.

Oh, and her daughters would just be worse; they're just Wraith but with Clown's power.

Jack Baker - The Cajun

The iconic antagonist from Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Jack Baker punched his way into peoples' hearts (and faces) all the way back in 2016 in the Beginning Hour. Ever since then, we remember his violent, campy and sadistically funny nature in both his gestures and his words, especially that one iconic line:

"Welcome to the family, son."

He's the only true pursuer of the game that chases down Ethan Winters within the halls of his home, often times coming to clash against him within the various parts of his house in life-or-death battles against the engineer from Texas. Even when it seems like he's down for the count, he comes right on back over and over again, even having to face his brother, Joe Baker, in the final climactic battle of the entire game, fittingly being ended with one sentence that is the antithesis of his:

"This is farewell from the family, brother!"

Due to being an ordinary person with brute physical strength thanks to the effects of the E-Type mold from the bioweapon known as Eveline, he has no real immediate Powers to call his own, but that's where the combination of various factors of his can come into play. Jack has many weapons throughout the game; his own fists, an axe, a rotary cultivator, even a powerful chainsaw scissor; he also has two forms that have extra abilities granted to them thanks in part due to the mold inside of him--these are the arm whip attacks and the burning bile attacks. Also add in the fact that he's very hard to stun and can bust through walls so casually, and it's easy to see how he can just work in the game.

For his chances, it's fairly easy to say he'd rank among Mr. X and Nemesis due to his intimidating presence, his violent nature, how he treats Ethan throughout his encounters with him and the sheer tension a player will feel in his presence.

Perhaps one of his passive powers is to emulate that experience by making Survivors feel that first-person terror all over again...

Alexia Ashford - The Queen

The villainess from Resident Evil: Code: Veronica, Alexia makes her debut in a sullen, yet twisted moment where she cradles her dead brother's head to 'comfort him', all the while sending out her tendrils to attack the vehicle that survivors Claire Redfield and Steve Burnside were using to try and kill them as revenge.

She's the final challenge and villain within the game and truly makes her presence known when fighting Albert Wesker and Chris Redfield together, then eventually Chris and Claire Redfield. She is as vicious and sadistic as her attitude plays out to be, showing this through her fiery attacks and the instant death move she performs in her first form, as well as her second form's bug and hive-like structure. She really is a queen, if you think about it...

Unlike all of these characters listed before her, Alexia herself has an ability that hasn't even been explored in Dead by Daylight whatsoever, and that's the ability to burn people. Her own blood oozes a substance that just ignites when exposed to the air, and she can throw it sort of like projectiles. Other than that, she has her large tendrils and her horrid mutations to fall back upon if things get rough for her, but the fiery aspect of her moves shouldn't be overlooked. She could potentially burn survivors to death, if she really wanted to.

For her chances, I would rate her along the middle of the road. This is partly due to the fact that she has been forgotten by most people over the years, or many people haven't even heard of her, but she's definitely one of the only females in the series who is both scary and has an interesting ability at the same time. There's not many female villains in the franchise that are like her, and not many female villains at all, but she would definitely leave a burning impression (or four) on survivors.

-----

With that, this concludes my part of this whole speculation with some starter posts. If anyone else has their own thoughts or ideas on who the Killer might be, post it below and let's get this discussion rolling.

Alcina is in a worse position because her base form wouldn't fit well with anything. She's not shown to do anything in her base form that's original. She does a swipe attack and a lunge attack and...that's it. Sure she has flies in her boss fight, but they'd only just cause the framerate to drop in this game. (That last part is a joke if you couldn't tell.)

With Jack, on the other hand, you actually have both a moveset to work with and his mold-based abilities, too. It doesn't take long to come up with a moveset for him in comparison to somebody like Lady Dimitrescu. You can give him a basic moveset that uses his cultivator but then give him a Power that's his chainsaw scissors; whether it's a charge, a short-ranged one-hit down (or Mori if you're dead on hook) or even something as stupid as a chainsaw spin attack, you can come up with something using his weapon.

    Lady Dimitrescu, you cannot.

You're simply ignoring all of the other points I made and instead going at the things you cherry-picked out of it all.

You're willing to consider Jack's additional forms yet limit Lady Dimitri to her base form.

I have pointed out the clear bias in your post, and I did it again just now.

I did not mention the rest because I saw no issues with it, but surely you realize how silly it was for you to mention Jack's fist as something to make up for his lack of a power as well as his violent nature, when they are all violent.

It's going to be Jack Krauser as Killer and Ada Wong as Survivor...case closed

I've a bias against Dimitrescu; I'll admit it. But I've also pointed out in my response post about her only other ability (the fly thing), but it wouldn't be all that original considering we have other slow-down AoE abilities in the game.

Also, Jack's fist was listed as one of his weapons; this also extends to his grab attacks, too, which he could possibly even use to his advantage as a grappler-based Killer, however well that would work. Additionally, the "violent nature" part was flavor text regarding Jack's description; while yes, they are all violent, his degree of violence is far more than the likes of most of them--the only one to match it is possibly Alcina herself.

Honestly, I thought possessed Mia would make a good killer she could wield the chainsaw and have short sprints to catch survivors off guard.

Second part of her power gets really interesting she would be able to server the survivors hand which they would be able to collect and reattach it ,but this also gives Mia the ability to see the severed hand at certain distance.

Well at least you admit it, but yes I do think that Alcina can match Jack's level of violence.

You mean sadism and being sadistic ,where as one of the tyrants would just put you out of you're misery quick Jack or Alicna would most likely torture you first.

Well for Mr. X, you could do a lot of very unique things with him. His Terror Radius might not need to be a heartbeat, but the sound of his boots instead, or perhaps he just straight up ignores pallet stuns if he's using a power (like his Stalker ability from Resistance, just tuned to DbD standards) or special attack even. Mr. X has a simple appearance but endless possibilities because of what they give him.

Nemesis would definitely be an extremely strong Killer. I mean, look at his credentials again:

    • Can outrun Jill by a significant amount
    • Has a roar that stuns because it breaks a person's ears
    • Has tentacles that can grab, throw and pierce you; can also be used to just fling him somewhere to cut you off
    • Has two tentacle attacks that track you or multiple other people (Resistance and Re:Verse only)
    • Can literally just Spider-Man out of nowhere
    • Can just leap incredible distances
    • Has giant arms for giant attacks
    • Has a flamethrower
    • Has a R O C K E T L A U N C H E R

You look at this guy and he is pretty strong. But then again, Rocket Launcher, pretty funny.

It's an interesting ability, but DbD isn't too overly gory when it comes to actually doing things like this. Perhaps an alternative is that she does a "Severed" status effect where you lose the ability to use one of your arms, and thus do things that require two hands; you must then find a First Aid Med on the map to restore yourself and remove the "Severed" effect. There'd probably be around 12 of these on the map for particular balance reasons.

    TheStabbiNAngeL Member Posts: 1,264

Yeah that works, forgot they can't do gory stuff because of bans.

I'd wager it's Mr. X or Nemesis (maybe even Birkin). Jack and Lady D are arguably too new and Alexia isn't as well known as the others.

Mr. X could be a standard strong dude who can mutate into a super tyrant if he takes enough damage.

Nemesis could utilize his tools in a limited capacity with a bit of flavor added by his roars and tendrils.

Birkin could be similar to Mr. X but with more transformations.

Ultimately, it'll probably be a tyrant with skins of all the variations. That's how they'd probably make the most money. If I could choose, I would like to have 2 killers, them being Nemesis and Birkin, or Nemesis and Mr. X. That way you could have a monstrous mutating killer and a smarter one with tools.

  • Vulgun
    Vulgun Member Posts: 439

I think that they could still reinvent things with the new Killer if it were Mr. X.

Imagine if he just had a Special Attack/Mori known as Pulverize, which I've actually made a concept of before that I think you and others will like to see:

    Pulverize

    • Press the Activate Ability button to activate freely
    • When activated, The Tyrant will lunge forward and grab a survivor in front of itself. If successful, The Tyrant will grab the survivor by the head and lift them up into the air, remaining completely stationary and staring down the survivor with an intimidating look.
    • After an approximate amount of time, if the survivor does not escape nor is The Tyrant stunned, then the survivor grabbed will be killed. The amount of time varies depending on the health and hook status of the Survivor. These are as follows:
      • Healthy, No Hooks: 15 seconds
      • Injured, No Hooks: 14.5 seconds
      • Healthy, 1 Hook: 12.5 seconds
      • Injured, 1 Hook: 11 seconds
      • Healthy, 2 Hooks: 9.5 seconds
      • Injured, 2 Hooks: Instant Death
    • The survivor affected by this can actually wiggle out if they are fast enough. The base amount of time that a survivor can wiggle out of Pulverize is 14.5 seconds, just shy of 15 seconds, but optimal wiggling will allow the survivor to escape within 8.5 seconds.
    • If a survivor escapes via wiggling, The Tyrant will lose its grip and look at its arm, just like how it looks at its arm in the knife defense animation done to it in RE2 Remake; this lasts approximately 7 seconds.
    • If a survivor escapes via stunning through pallets or lockers, The Tyrant will be knocked back; this lasts approximately 5 seconds.
    • If a survivor escapes via flashlight, The Tyrant will be blinded for an immense period of time; this lasts approximately 8 seconds and The Tyrant cannot move during this time, but can still attack and deal damage to survivors nearby.
    • The wind-up speed of the move is 1.75 seconds
    • The recovery speed of the move is 5 seconds
    • The recovery speed of the move if it kills is 6.5 seconds
    • The cooldown of the move's charge is approximately:
      • 50 seconds if it misses
      • 60 seconds if it grabs, but is escaped from
      • 90 seconds if it grabs and succeeds

This basically makes this move the ultimate high-risk, high-reward option that will be extremely beneficial in the end game. Tyrant is known to have this command grab and it would just be a shame if it was relegated to a regular Mori; it deserves the best treatment as an attack instead.

Besides, Myers isn't the only silent stalker made by pure evil with the sole purpose to kill. The two are quite similar in a way, but still vastly different if you think about it.

  • Vulgun
    Vulgun Member Posts: 439

I'm not going to focus on the first part mostly due to the fact it covers cheaters, which is something not relevant to the conversation at hand.

But thinking too inside-the-box is a completely unhealthy thing for the game. Look at Pyramid Head for example; he's the most out-of-the-box character in the game due to the Cage of Torment and Final Judgment attacks, which surprise surprise, they end up actually changing up the game in some way or form. Same with Pig and her Reverse Bear Trap, which changes up the game again from just doing generators to "I have to get this off or it will kill me. I also can't try leaving the map or it will kill me.'

Thinking like the status quo would ultimately not be anywhere near good for the game. Additionally, there just are no patterns; they give us characters with unique attributes to them, even if they could be considered moderately similar to other characters' abilities.

Mr. X getting a command grab wouldn't be too farfetched an idea to produce. It's part of his kit and a very well-known one at that.

The Resident Evil series has a lot of things that could help challenge how people play Dead by Daylight if they REALLY wanted to go the extra mile for their 20th chapter. It's a matter of "if it's unique" and "if it's fun", not "if it's similar to before". Status quo will probably not play a huge part in the RE Killer's moveset.

This would be incredibly unfun for both sides.

    • Tyrant would use add-ons to make kill timer shorter
    • Tyrant power would be incredibly weak to balance out the fact it has an instant kill, which would mean you would only be able to use your power until the late game where survivors have accumulated enough hooks. Basically, an M1 killer for most of the game.

I would quite like Heisenberg tbh, has some good dialogue too.

Plus i wouldn't mind swinging his hammer around or controlling metal for an ability to either trap or hurl at the survivor. Using metal to block a window or doorway (Like a Bamboozle, but with a cooldown) for example and able to encase a survivor in metal overtime for a chase projectile ability.

@Weck While that would be cool, I imagined bigass knife as the base weapon,a crossbow with EMP bolts that stun Survivors on gens and it starts regressing (reload at locker and have 5 bolts to start) and an ultimate (maybe charged by crossbow?) that morphs his arm and can one shot in a dash attack. (Like Billy but less maneuverable.)

  • Vulgun
    Vulgun Member Posts: 439

This wouldn't be his Power, just a Special Attack, an extension of his Power. His primary Power would probably be based more on his ability to locate targets or get to them as fast and efficiently as possible rather than the ability to just grab or M1 him. Or it could be a combination of abilities in one.

Additionally, this move would have no add-ons to affect it, much like how Pyramid Head doesn't have add-ons that allow it to use Final Judgement earlier.

Heisenberg is an interesting case of an RE8 Killer. While I would disagree on his inclusion on the grounds of the fact RE8 is just too new, he would make for an interesting Killer due to his Magneto ability. Maybe instead of just blocking windows or doorways, he ends up blocking loops with his ferrokinetic ability.

Or maybe he can just outright create staircases that go up a floor or two with his metal, which would be an insane ability that would additionally make Haddonfield's God House not fun to go against him with.

It was confirmed by devs that the new killer is Nemesis. Also they are adding in the end only a single killer, because two killers could create too many bugs at the same time. Especially if we take into account that also a new survivor item will be added, a new map, and also MMR will finally go live + a new game mode.

If BHVR go for a Tyrant (Mr.X, Nemesis, etc) then they have so much potential for legendary skins and income, because the character models could all work in sync.

Lady Dimitrescu has maybe 1 or 2 options (Alexia from "Code Veronica"), the Tyrants have more variants and more iconic options: (Mr.X, Nemesis, T-002, T-078, Ivan, Thanatos, etc.).

From a business perspective, the Tyrant is the way to go.

As I'm sure everyone knows by now, I really want Jack to be the killer. I think he's one of the best candidates for a RE killer.

If you'd like to see my concept for how I think his power could work, I posted it in my buddies thread.

It was not published officially, it will be revealed before PTB next week.

The MMR will be probably activated and announced only when the next chapter goes live, not even on PTB.

However I really like these speculation topics, can be used as inspiration for next chapters, so keep em coming.

Glad someone can enjoy these speculation topics. It'll probably get a lot of heated debates once the last 5 days roll around.

As for something for people to consider, I've actually got another Resident Evil killer idea that could actually work, and it's actually a relatively interesting idea that not many people, if anybody may have talked about.

    elisio.jpg

    Elesio Mabou - The Bioweapon

Elesio Mabou, also known as Morio, is a bioweapon introduced in the tie-in manga BIOHAZARD heavenly island, where it pursues Takeru Tominaga and Yuki Mayu on Sonido de Tortuga Island.

While I'm not perfectly certain how his story completely goes (as I can only use articles on the wiki), considering his overall appearance, it's hard to deny that he would possibly have the ability to utilize his harpoon, as well as possibly the anchor on his back, in some way, shape or fashion. He could potentially throw the harpoon spear towards a survivor to damage them from a short range, or even pin them into the ground or a wall from long range, which could allow him to follow up with an attack via the anchor or grab on the survivor if they do not escape in time.

If anybody here has actually read the BIOHAZARD heavenly island manga and would like to shed some light about this character, that'd be much appreciated so a better concept for a killer could be made with Elesio in mind.

But from a design perspective, Elesio would make for a very cool killer design, if not as THE Resident Evil killer, possibly as an alternate skin for whoever the Killer is (granted they are male) or even a Legendary skin for Wraith, who would have a similar style and aesthetic to Morio.

An interesting Killer in appearance, but still very unlikely to be the Killer due to the lack of knowledge of this character.

I'm not actually completely certain, but of course considering that the Sonido de Tortuga Island incident occurred (in-universe) in 2014, then it's likely that he will never appear in a future installment due to his apparent death.

But as for this not being a game or a creature in a game? Well, I'm not sure. It's unfortunate since this guy could've easily been a good Revelations 2 antagonist.

Surprised you didn't mention Birkin. He has a fair amount of potential as well. He could focus around changing forms, with different forms giving different benefits. For example, his G1 could be his base form, pure 115% killer. G3 could be a form much more focused on dealing damage and chasing, maybe getting a bonus to breaking pallets and walls or a one shot, at the cost of becoming 110%. His G4 dog form could be built more around speed and map pressure, at the cost of chase ability. Maybe in this form he could only injure and then put you in Deep Wounds, if anything at all. Just spitballing here of course, they could do loads of things with him.

I mean, if I were a betting man, my top 2 picks are:

    1. Nemesis(yes, he has a rocket launcher, but that can easily work similar to how Myers' T3 works, requiring a charge up before it can be used, and otherwise just using the weapon as an M1. I'd think it would be amazing bonking people on their heads with a freaking rocket launcher).
    2. One of the ABCD's in the Dimitrescu Family. This because of the 5 being shaped like the weapon of use by B, C and D Dimitrescu. Their powers would honestly fit nicely. Sure, you could state they are similar to Nurse as they could turn into flies and ignore resources. But on the other hand, so what? We have Bubba and Ghostface being similar to Billy and Myers. We have Plague and Trickster being similar to Huntress. We have Demogorgon being similar to Pig. As for Lady Dimitrescu herself, she could easily have her ability be done around her lunge range. Which could be imagined as a mix of Oni and an uncloaking Wraith.

Why no one else? Because these 2 are currently the 2 biggest icons of Resident Evil. RE7 was relatively unknown and small compared to RE8. People have literally gotten into Resident Evil because of the marketing around Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters alone. Nemesis is the obvious icon prior to RE8.

So it really depends on CapCom who they wanted to attract and please more: their existing fanbase or their potential future fanbase. If they add a Dimitrescu, their future fanbase are likely to buy DBD too to just check it out, with the existing fanbase probably owning DBD right now due to the prior announcement, both groups likely purchasing their licensed character, thus making them money, while DBD players are likely purchasing the new Resident Evil just to speculate on their power. If they add Nemesis, their future fanbase might not buy DBD and thus not buy their licensed character, not making them as much money, but still quite a lot of money on a character that barely gives them an income, while the DBD fanbase either already owned that game or are purchasing a game with a hefty discount.

Marketing wise, adding a Dimitrescu would offer CapCom the biggest income overall. It's not like they will lose RE fans from adding a character to a non-RE game.

The only reason I dont think it would be a Dimitrescu, is because they did the 4 teaser last year and might have done the design for 5 to be a slight red herring. But that is assuming quite a lot. I do love to be proven wrong on this one though. I personally have more respect to companies that make amazing games AND please their existing fanbase over companies that make cash grabs and ponder to a potential fanbase.

For killers I think it may very well Mr. X / Tyrant / Nemesis - which I wouldn't mind.

Lets talk about Legendary Skins for killers:

Lisa Trevor ?? - The Blight perhaps

Salazar and his Right Guardian - The Twins maybe

Evil Jill aka Bird Woman - Legion maybe

Legendary Skins for Survivors ( so many) I would like:

    Excella Gionne

    Rebecca Chambers

who am i kidding - im such a fan of RE - i think ill buy buying EVERYTHING RE related in this game. lol

One week left until we've finally gotten our new Killer and Survivor. Speaking of, I've made a tie-in poll for this occasion:

    https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/250614/who-will-the-resident-evil-killer-be#latest

So for anyone who's interested in giving their own opinions on who the Resident Evil Killer will be one week before release, here you go! I'm personally banking on the idea that it's the very iconic T-103 from Resident Evil 2.

Be honest, who WOULDN'T want to just punch a survivor or two? Or four?
