Can we get a Dev statement about Survivor Matchmaking???

v4lor
v4lor Member Posts: 74

I wait in queue 10+ minutes on Survivor, every single match. Every single match, I get teammates 10-15 ranks lower than me.

I could understand this if the playerbase count was low, but it's not. I could understand this if the matchmaking was ensuring accuracy, but it's not.

Something is broken. You know it, I know it, every single content creator has been complaining about it for MONTHS. Not even just the wait, the wait DESPITE the imbalance.

This is not acceptable. The matchmaking pool is vast. On Steam alone the average playerbase is 40k. Console is far greater. There is absolutely zero reason any Survivor playing with Crossplay enabled should be waiting 10+ minutes for matches so imbalanced with a playerbase this big.

I want a developer to explain why this is happening, please. It has been this way for months with no acknowledgement. I think it's time you said something, ANYTHING, to explain why it's this bad, for so long.

People say this all the time, and if this is true, then the developers should have no trouble showing stats that support it. I want a statement from them that supports why it's been so bad.

Did I say I was owed it? "I want" doesn't mean "I am entitled to". The literal title of the thread is "Can we get..." not "I DEMAND REEE".

My queue times are like this:

    Morning- survivor fast, killer slow

Midday- survivor still fast, killer getting faster too

Late afternoon- survivor starting to take a bit longer, killer queue getting almost instant

Evening- survivor queue takes several minutes, killer queue takes several seconds

I am on European servers but dunno if it matters. This means that survivors play most at the evening and afternoon while killer playerbase is the larger one in the mornings.

The longer it takes for you to get a match, the more people play on your side at that time. So matchmaking is looking for your opponent much longer

It would be interesting to see the variance between how many survivors queue vs how many killers queue

What would you rather do, wait 10-15 minutes to play with possible potato teammates against a killer that is much better than you, or wait 1 hour to get teammates of your same rank and be against a killer of your same rank? Me personally, I would rather wait the shorter time to play and possibly lose than wait a long time to play. Matchmaking has always been an issue. If they change it to be more strict about rank matching, you will have to wait a very long time. It has been that way before and most people would rather not wait an hour in queue.

It is 100% because of not enough killers to survivor players when survivor queues are long. What else could it possibly be? Which role people choose to play at which times is not Behavior's problem to solve. They can only influence your decision, but it is ultimately your choice. If the queues feel to long for you on survivor, swap over and play killer.

I agree, it would be very interesting to see it.

If this is truly the problem, the devs should be able to show it, since it's apparent how much they love their stats. And if it is the problem, they should incentivize queueing up as the less populated role, through extra xp/shards/bp, just as a small idea.

Mine are bad no matter the time of day, maybe a little shorter during the morning (US East), but still 5ish minutes and the ranks are still poor. All I'm asking for is some acknowledgement, some stats, anything at all from BHVR. Even better if they have some kind of eventual plan to address it.

It's really hard to stay motivated to play when queues actually last longer than individual matches.

yea but all caps, 3 question marks, blaming the devs for working with what playerbase they have which is more survivors then killers

pretty strong words for not demanding it

It's nice that you mention the 40k people on steam here. Did you ever check the percentage on the achievements accomplished there? Even easy achievements like reach rank 10 on killer or hit survivor with a special but easy killer power 30 times have a completion rate of less than 10 percent of all players. Of course this stats can be falsified by people that just played dbd for a free weekend and the stats takes all people that ever started dbd even for just one day into account and not just the average 40-50k active players.

Also since you mention cross play, the amount of console players on survivor side that opted in for it may be way bigger than the killers participation rate. Console killer are at an inherent disadvantage given by lower frame rate and the limits of a controller against the precision of mouse+keyboard in first Person gameplay. This makes less of an impact on survivor side so nothing but the screwed console optimization keeps survivor from opting in to cross play leading to a bigger influx of survivors than killer from the consoles making the imbalance indicated by the steam achievement completion rate even worse.

Edit: okay I double checked on the steam achievemtn thing and I would say that those stats really take any person that ever tried dbd on a free weekend into account because even the highest achievement completion is only 50% so every other stat might have to be doubled to represent a correct portion of the player base which would lead to the above mentioned 10% to become 20% and that would be a correct value for a 1:4 ratio.

Fun fact here while the legendary killer achievement (reach rank 1 on killer) has a completion of 4%, legendary survivor also has only 6,3%.

The title shows as all caps when you are in the topic itself, something a person with almost 3k posts should know.

Oh no, 3 question marks. It's almost like I'm frustrated and desperately want an explanation for why a game I love so much has such a ridiculous problem. Sorry for having passion about a game, I guess?

Where did I "blame" the devs for anything? You really like imagining tone/inflection to text, huh? Strange.

    ?

Steamcharts shows monthly peaks, as in ACTIVE players, not "this person launched the game once". Those numbers would be in the millions, so I have no idea what kind of valid comparison achievement statistic would draw to concurrent active players.

The constraints of last-gen console on killer are well-documented, for sure, but (admittedly anecdotally) more than half the killers I face as a PC Survivor ARE playing on console. Not to mention many console players can play on the new gen if they upgraded, so their experience wouldn't differ much than that of a PC Killer on controller, of which I have seen many just on Twitch alone.

Again, though, all you and I are really doing is speculating, which is why I'm asking for developer stats showing an issue that would cause such awful queues with such a huge playerbase.

Yeah I already double checked the achievement thingy and made an edit to my comment. Even the highest completion rate is 51% globally and the achievement to increase your rank by one aka play/win two games (?) has only 49% which indicates for me that half of all players never played dbd in an online trial.

Oh boy lemme pay $500+ in order to play a 5 year old game.

If you couldn't tell, I am frustrated at the lack of action with the Console end of the game.

If there are not more survivors than killers then why would the survivor que be long with the killer que being nearly instant? What could possibly be the reason?

Killer daily rituals are way more common, and playing as a killer often is much easier in regards to earning blood points even before you see bbq and chili.

The way killers struggle on console I think is likely a factor. Survivors also get to play with their friends to increase enjoyment whereas killers are alone.

Survivor is the more attractive role to most people. Survivors get to play with friends and the game becomes a social thing where they hang out and chat. Killers don't get that. Killers play alone, and at night with the awful matchmaking killer goes from being a game mode to a thankless job. As the matchmaking gets more skewed because there are fewer killers, more killers quit for the night because their matches suck, and so it gets worse and worse.

It does not help that there's no estimated wait time. The devs need to add that for players so they know when the survivor or killer queue is overflowing. I queue up and a few minutes pass and I have no idea how much longer the wait is, there's nothing to give me any clue. Am I five seconds or five minutes away from entering a lobby? Is the other side's queue long as well? Players are given no information, and that makes the queue problems worse.

Yeah, it would be interesting to see a chart on the number of survivors and killers currently playing or waiting, possibly broken down by rank.

There could be a slider where you could set the tradeoff between wait time and matching quality. It would show you the expected wait time and the expected ranks of survivors and killer you will be matched with.

This is exactly what i and many others experience, i just get in a habit of playing survivor during the afternoon and killer in the evening if i so wish.

My fastest Survifor queue today was at noon and it took 6 minutes.

My slowest Killer queue was at around 6 PM and took 2 minutes

Frankly, more people play games solo than with friends. And I'm talking about the grand scheme, in video gaming in general. With DBD being no exception.

Yes, Survivor is the only faction where you can play with friends. However, most people still only play solo. Take something like LoL for example. Do you have any idea how much solo players outnumber non-solo players??? It's immense.

That being said, there's only one remaining reason why so many more people play Survivor than Killer. And we all know what that reason is...

    It's just free real estate.

DBD has attracted the hyper-casual crowd of gamers. You're not going to see CSGO tourny players that play DBD on the side, or anything like that. No; instead, people who play DBD also probably play things like... say, Animal Crossing, or what have you. Crap like that.

DBD has become that same type of appeal. Hey, I'll just play some solo DBD Survivor games. I'm so powerful as a Survivor, it's practically impossible for me to lose. I'll do this, because it makes me feel good.

And so, we have fast Killer queues and slow Survivor queues. I mean, it's RIGHT there. It's a pure statistic that can't be argued. All you can do is throw around weird, forced reasons as to why this would be, and try to beat around the bush about the real answer simply being: Survivor is obscenely overpowered in DBD.

How else can you POSSIBLY explain Killer - the faction with the ONLY amount of flavor in the entire game - being the most unplayed faction???

It's like... If you imagine a fighting game, and the only two characters were Akuma, and a generic gray humanoid "training mode" dummy. And then, turns out, 80% of the game's playerbase all play the training dummy, including competitive/tournament players. And you sit there wondering, HMM, WHY IS THAT? MAYBE IT HAS TO DO WITH THE TIME OF DAY.............

Hmm, okay. I could swear I remember that the SWF pool was pretty big when including 2-man, 3-man, and 4-man groups, but I could be wrong.

I only play solo survivor when I play survivor, and I'm not really fond of the survivor role. I play it when it has the quicker queue, because there are Tome Challenges to do. I'd play it more if I could play with the people I live with, because I enjoy that, I don't really enjoy being on comms with strangers, but that's not possible so I stick to solo and I either get taken out quick because I'm the weak link or I escape so easily it's not even fun because the killer's a newbie. The middle ground where matches would be a fun challenge doesn't seem to exist.

I've seen other people suggest that the survivor queue is super long because of console players: the poor optimization and lack of options for playing on a controller make killer a pain in the ass. Which is true, I play on PS4 and there are fewer problems when playing survivor, but I don't know if or how much that affects the queue because there's no data for it.
