Today marks 1 year since I discovered DBD
Well, I have officially hit the 1-year mark of my time playing Dead by Daylight. Honestly, when I first started playing this game I never expected to have played it as much as I have and for it to be my main game for this long. Before June 1, 2020, I never even knew this game existed. At around evening on that day, I was just browsing Steam through the horror genre seeing which new games I can pick up. I looked at Dead by Daylight and it seemed popular with decent reviews so I decided to buy it having no idea what to expect from the game.
I would now like to share what my experience was like my first time playing. I first logged into the game and saw the main menu for the first time. It is a fairly simple main menu as there’s an option to play as survivor or killer. First thing I did was go into help and tutorials obviously. I knew the game was online so I wanted to make sure I understood the basics of the game more before I went into an actual game and get humiliated by 4 random humans that I didn't know. I read the tutorial manuals as I didn’t understand what a perk, offering, add on, or anything else was. I didn’t read that much to be honest. I played the survivor tutorial first. It seemed like a pretty violent game at first but I've watched plenty of horror movies and played horror games so it wasn't anything that I couldn't handle. I will say that it was a little more violent than I expected it to be as I was never expecting for the survivors to be impaled on a hook after already being beaten to death. It still didn't bother me that much though. So, I then decided to play survivor first. I thought the tutorial helped me out enough to where I understood how to play the game properly. That was a mistake. I died super fast in the match as it all happened so fast. I'm trying to specifically remember my first match as I do vaguely remember it being on a MacMillan map. I can also vaguely remember being in a building with boxes so I want to say it was Groaning Storehouse against a Wraith. That was honestly one of the most embarrassing matches I've had because of how fast I died and how little awareness I had. I'm not going to go too in-depth of every possible game I had but during my first two months of DBD, I played about 95% survivor. I probably would've played killer more but the que times for killers in low ranks seemed to be super long, at least back when I was new.
During this whole past year, I’ve gotten super close to 1000 hours of playtime becoming a pretty good killer and average to above average survivor. Spirit has definitely been the killer I’ve played as the most, which I know a lot of people will shame me for but yes, I have and still do love Spirit. I think a lot of people on the forums remember those days when I defended the hell out of her and had a Spirit pfp instead of a Yui pfp I have now. I’ll admit I still love her to death but I understand that she’s unhealthy for the game. I don't play her as much as I used to but when I do, I like running meme perks like Mad Grit on her. Survivors I have mained have been Meg and Yui as I have been able to get both maxed out at P3 with every single perk. Still waiting for that Claire Redfield legendary skin so I can get her there as well.
I would now like to talk about how much of an impact DBD has made in my life. I wouldn’t consider it my favorite game of all time because both Super Mario Galaxy games and Resident Evil 2 remake all happily compete for that spot. However, I can’t think of any other game ever that has made as much of an impact on my life as DBD has. I won't go into full detail but let's just say that 2020 was a huge struggle, and I would assume that a lot of people would agree. DBD then came into my life in June and after more time of playing DBD, I found something I’m passionate for, something for me to do if I feel lonely. It’s been the game that has helped me meet all kinds of people on the internet. I met a lot of great people in game as I even play in a SWF group from time to time with people I randomly met after a killer game as Legion. I joined the forums in October of 2020 and a lot of people on here are amazing, wholesome people that I love talking to. Just to name a few, @GeneralV, @GoodBoyKaru, @MadLordJack, and @Pulsar. Obviously, those are just a few examples as there are many many other great people on here. I absolutely love this community and I disagree with the common belief that the community is toxic. You guys are awesome and it’s such a pleasure I got to meet y’all! Also BHVR, I may have criticized y’all before but I just want to say how amazing y’all are. I understand that a game can't be perfect. All of those criticisms I have put out only come from a place in my heart that cares for DBD's success. I just want to say, thank you guys so much for making this game as it has really made a huge impact in my life. Thanks for 1 year of DBD as I won’t be going anywhere any time soon!
So yeah, I apologize for the long post but I really wanted to let this out and express my gratitude towards DBD and the community for this past year.

Aww, someone implied I'm wholesome 💜💜
Quickly hides 5000 posts of mockery and sarcasm

Honestly, I have no idea what the difference between a walrus and a seal 😂 Anyway, still love those seals nonetheless.

Lol make sure you do it quick! Jokes aside you're still awesome!

A walrus is a particular species of seal that has those big tusks that... Well, to be perfectly honest no-one really knows what precise function they have, they just seem to be really useful for breaking through ice, defence, and occasionally predatation. They also have the sensory organs that look like a moustache, hence the term and fashion feature "walrus moustache".
I spent about 4 hours researching seals a few days ago. I don't know why. Also, elephant seals dive ridiculously deep for more than an hour.

Ah ok that makes more sense.

Happy Anniversary to the DBD forums #1 resident Yui fan!
For all it's flaws, DBD is one of those games that I feel I've got my money's worth and then some. Truly an experience I'm glad to have been apart of. The game at its core has only gotten better and not worse, still a lot of work to be done though as there always is.
I hope you continue to find many more hours of enjoyment with the game.

How do you get to 1k hours within 1 year?
I have been playing this game before spirit came out, and I'm still at around 800 hours.
Do you never feel like taking a break?

Thanks man. I have certainly expressed my passion for Yui around these forums. I will continue to do so as well.
I've taken some minor breaks. Also, I'm not quite at 1000 hours yet. I'm currently at 967.
