Survivors Giving Killer Their Stuff?
Newbie here! I've been maining killer lately and today during a match I suddenly had to AFK to check on my dog(he was pooping dental floss and was freaking out so it literally couldn't wait) anyway, I returned expecting it to be GG, I felt bad but ya know it happens sometimes.
The gennys are done and the survivors are all just kinda standing around me? So I just kinda like.. nodded at them? I wasn't gonna try and stab em at this point I just accepted my loss and went to the gate and opened it for them. They didn't go through the gate though? They all started like nodding their heads and dropping their equipped items and stuff and like squatting. One of them asked me to follow and lured me to a pallet, and I think they wanted to drop it on me? So I just let them get the drop on me, whatevs--clock is still running out tho so I run back to the gate and try to just encourage them to go through, ya know?
2 survivors go through last minute but then 2 others stay behind and let themselves die? I'm still new to gaming etiquette on this game, so whats going on? Like I cant gesture like they can, so I just nodded and what not or tried to "point" to the gate. Post game I see 2 of the survivors are rank 18, like me, and 2 are RANK 1 (OMG) and those are the 2 that let themselves die.
Anyway, is there something I should do/know when survivors are just dropping their med kits/flashlights in front of me and just, crouching/nodding? I didnt' know what to do lol

what it mean depends on the context, but usually something good like a "thank you" or them comforting you after a rough match as killer.
It's the polar opposite of tea bagging.

Some people are good sports. You just never hear of them. This was probably a case

They're attempting to parley with you. When a survivor dies they lose their item. That's the big risk for a survivor in the match.
They're basically saying "Hey, lets have peace and just be silly. I gain nothing by escaping."
I generally accept but well, it's on you if you wanna be friendly or not.

okay, that makes sense then. like i wasnt sure what to do at that point like did... they want me to stab them, folow them, like lol i wasnt sure. and yeah it was a really rough game at first, those 2 rank ones were just murdering me (so to speak) and as someone who still only has like 80 hours in this game it makes it miserable for me to try and learn when im going against Rank 1s

ohhhh okay. dang i wish i hadn't opened the gate so soon lol, i just wanted them to get the Win since I had to afk suddenly. i try to be a fair sport as a killer and not tunnel or camp or anything but im still SO NEW and honestly playing fair almost makes it impossible for me to win most games. i think I only ever won ONCE in a match, and it was against other rank 20 survivors and I was a rank 20 killer. lately it seems all my match ups are against Rank 8 and up and I'm still Rank 18, so it feels really unfair

Take your time with killer. A thing that trips up killers that don't play survivor is that you have a giant red glow that you can't see about six feet out in a cone from your character model. Survivors at loop are watching that red glow to see which way you're coming and looping accordingly. Learning when and where to manipulate your killer glow will change the outcome of matches.
What I like to do is right after I hook someone is immediately leave them and patrol generators again, and if you're not in a new chase by the time the survivor is rescued return to the hook. That'll scatter half their team. The injured person is going to be skittish until they're healed which will help you apply pressure. It's not until you get into the red ranks that you'll see injured survivors pushing generators so don't be afraid to tap multiple survivors with your weapons. From there it's just a learning experience. Until you learn the maps let experienced survivors take you on a tour and watch how they're looping you. There's usually only one way to efficiently do a loop.
If you're ever in a situation where you keep chasing the same person over and over again, remember, that means three other survivors are free to do what they want. You don't ever want that.
Most importantly, have fun!

Basically everything everyone else said, but I'd also like to add that if it's the last survivor and hatch is in play, dropping their item for you is probably signaling that they want to organize a trade.

It can be asking for mercy, or just telling you "Thanks for the match." Just one of the few nice actions a survivor can make toward a killer. It's like saying "Take this." Even though obviously you can't. (But man, do I want firecrackers on my killers. THey'd be super useful.)

the longer i play killer the more i hate the game. i was a lvl 50 bill and got presteige on him and i decided i wanted to try killer out. BIG mistake. i hate this game now. im constantly against rank 1-5 survivors as a rank 18 killer and im constantly getting bullied by either the ######### in the beanie hat or a feng min. like i literally dont wanna play most games because every match i get is just insanrely hard against all survivors who are rank 50 with top stats and I dont even have my 4th ability unlocked

It gets easier. When I first started I was a Trapper and didn't touch survivor til a few weeks later. I rarely use anything other than common add ons unless I'm doing a rift or something, plus it always feels like to me you get more points as killer than you do as survivor.
The only thing I don't like about killer is you have like a foot of a blind spot directly in front of you so survivors really close to your model can get tricky on you if your game sense doesn't activate, but I've always found patrolling gens to be pretty chill. Once a pallet is gone, it's gone. Stop the chase and go after someone else. They'll go to use that pallet and oops it's not there. M1.

its just gotten so miserable for me. like i cant even cross the map ONCE and theres already 2 generators done? like OMG dude, can i at least have some sort of chance? and i dont wanna be cheap and camp survivors or tunnel anyone so if a chase goes on for longer than 15s i stop and move on to gen patrol. then i get like survivors flicking their flash light on and off in my face? like im getting really tired of 1 survivor being rank 20, and the rest are like rank 10 and higher it seems really difficult to even learn when everyone is like 3000 hours in

They probably thought your AFK was you giving up, and they felt sorry for you maybe.
Putting down their item is (usually) a gesture of good faith where they’re attempting to give you a break and help you earn more points.

Chill.
The game is intentionally designed so that 1 or 2 gens pop really early.
If completing gens was made difficult right from the start, no one would play survivor.
Many games won by many killers start with 1 to 3 gens popping quickly early in the game.
1 -
i get gens pop early, but the fact that it takes less than 30 secods for a survivor to complete a generator is INSANE. thats less time than it takes for me to even cross the map. im at a massive disadvantage because i cant exacly RUN through the map any faster, im stuck at my pace that im at. im trying to patrol generators and before i can even reach like the 2nd generator, 2 are popped. and i get survviors need some sort of edge, but yall are already 4v1, have all your perks ready, all pallets are ready--survivors already have a massive advantage once the game starts,

You’re MEANT to be at a disadvantage at the beginning. That’s the point. No one is yet in a chase or hooked. They have free reign. How many gens are done early is moot if you can exert strong pressure from the moment you get your first down.

im still a new killer, i dont even have my lvl 15 unlocked yet, the disparity between advantage/disadvantage is so insane it doesnt even feel like a game anymore it feels like "hey you wanna get bullied for a few hours?" i get like a team of Rank 10-6 and they carry DS, flashlights, all this other cool stuff and I get it, yeah they need it, but at the same time like I dont have ANYTHING to do against it. i dont see how im supposed to rank up at all when im basically given a knife and the ability to run slightly faster--which then gives me a headache and practical blindless. like as survivor i was getting bored because i just crouch and do gens. so i tried killer and the difference is too staggering. ive been playing this killer for 50 hours now just trying to get the hang of it and its just an unfun venture leveling them up

Ok. I read the name of the post and now all i'm thinking about is survivors coming up and laying items at my feet and bowing in exchange for leaving. They need to add a bow emote. This is so funny in my head. Maybe funnier than booping the pigs snoot.
1 -
i wish the killers could emote. i mean it makes sense as to why we CANT, but like in this scenario all i can do is awkwardly nod and i feel bad i cant do anything more genuine lol
0 -
Because you went AFK they myn't have thought you gave up and felt bad for you and wanted to be nice.

As for leaving their items it’s a sign of respect typically
The pallet drop was to farm blood points and/or to get points to safety pip
The rank ones letting themselves die was so you could get blood points and points to safety pip at least. If you don’t know what pipping is, it’s just progressing ranks, you can depip (lose progress, duh) safety pip (stay the same on rank progress) and pip and double pip (self explanatory)
1 -
ah! okay i understand now. i see the word PIP a lot and im still learning the lingo lol so. and i figured they needed points for clobbering me on the head lol, so i was OK with the pallet drop. i didnt give them a very fun game because i had to AFK so i didnt mind. i dont give up, even if i know its a lost cause i at least try to finish out the game with some chasing because i know a lot of rift things need chases/escapes.

Depends on context. For example:
- You got clearly stomped by survivors. If they return and give their items, they probably think the match was unfair and they feel sorry for you.
- You have won already and find the last survivor when he's looking for the hatch or tries open the door. If he drops the item, he's asking if you could let him live.
- It also means "thank you"
3 -
oohhhh, i didnt know about that 2nd one, ill deff have to remember that. i usually liike to let the last survivor live--especially if its like a Bill or something
