What is going on with matchmaking on survivor right now???

Almost all of my teammates for the last week have been rank 1 or close to it but holy ######### they are awful at the game. These people belong easily in rank 14 so why are they so high on the ranking system? And as Killer I've been going up against these same types of people, its crazy how bad they are yet so high on the ranking system.

Has anyone else been experiencing this issue?

Imo there's secret MMR matchmaking in the background rn. I'm always getting matched with purple or greens as a red rank against full decked out red rank killers. It's actually insane, how miserable it is in the current state.

I'm getting very off matches also. This is my perspective on red ranks that are terrible, they may be the kinds of survivors that piggy-back off others hardwork in completing objectives and looping the killer. It could also be they're at the rank they are because they team up with the killer for an easy victory. I've had a lot of matches were I see red ranks (even though ranks are meaningless now) are the first to get hooked or outright ignore being a team player.

People found out that they can rank up by holding m1 and getting into a chase during the endgame.

That's why you encounter people that don't belong to red ranks, on those ranks.

Thats because 50% of playerbase is in red ranks. Red rank doesnt mean the best, even tho its including the best players as well.

To put it simply - its too easy to reach red ranks

lmao this you can gen jockey save like 3 people a game maybe get some stealth for gold chaser and be absolutely ######### at everything else and get to like rank 3

Yea I was rank 1 survivor after 1 month of playing the game and I had no idea what I was doing lol

People want to buff solo and nerf swf but whats the point if you gonna get matched with red ranks noobs anyway

I have a similar experience. When I started playing I mained Killer (still kinda do, but I also play survivor regularly). Got to rank 2 within my first 40 hours of playing. Then I got either absolutely stomped by rank 1 survivors who looped the living sh out of me and I didn't kill anyone, or I got an easy 4k because survivors didn't know what to do. The match making in this game is honestly just non-existent.

I recently saw a video from OhTofu (Link with timestamp down below) He compared the ranking system of DbD to ladder systems like Overwatch or LoL, basically saying that anything from rank 20 to rank 2 is within Bronze to Silver compared to Overwatch and Rank 1 basically is this HUGE pool of players ranging from Gold over Platinum, Diamond and Master to even Grandmaster.

So in the end you have about 50% of the player base between rank 20 and rank 2 and 50% in rank 1.

And tbh, I agree with that. That's how the game feels playing in red ranks. I wish there was a proper matchmaking system in the game right now which catapults me back to rank 8 or something so I could enjoy balanced matches and gradually improve my own gameplay instead of being stuck in this weird pool of players I either absolutely demolish or get absolutely demolished. You know...just... FUN games.

Because there are too many Red Rank Survivors

Yes I actually saw that video few days ago and completely agree. Before we try to balance anything, first we need reliable matchmaking. Hopefully MMR will be better than this

Absolutely - proper balancing can't happen before good match making. You can't just let a gold 3 player compete with a challenger in LoL and then nerf the champion of the challenger because he dominated.. doesn't make sense.

I'm actually really astounded how a PvP game still doesn't have any MMR after 5 years of being released. That's something that should've been in the game from the very start or at least it should've been one of the first major patches.

I had the same experience but some killer were weird, too. I thought i was in a green rank match bc i had one meg crouching around the map and a spirit who lost me while phasing (i was injured without iron will). But everyone was red rank.

Matchmaking has been terrible for ages why are people being surprised by it all the time

The matchmaking has always been bad, this is nothing new.

This is why MMR is being worked on

I go by the theory that red rank or rank one is way less a symbol of skill and more of a repeated time investment between resets.

Just like gold or high silver elo in other games like lol it just takes a little over average understanding of the respective game and with enough matches played people will at least get there.

Dbd lost a great way of filtering skill with the rework of old ruin were less skilled player had problems hitting great skillchecks.

This now leads to the broad mass of player reaching red rank and with that the end of the ladder and everything skillwise gets mixed up together and matched against each other.
