Content Creators: My Unsolicited Advice

I'm not going to name and shame. If you respond to this thread, please do not name and shame. While some specific Content Creators have been doing this a great deal lately, it has come up before and will no doubt again. Thus, this message is for all of you, not just the most recent offenders (and yes I'm using the word offend). But before I get into this unsolicited advice, I'm going to tell you a bit about myself and why I come to play Dead by Daylight, and/or watch your shows.

Video games, books, comics, and movies are my pressure valve, how I let off steam and escape the real world. There is far too much partisan bickering, tribal politics, and annoying hubris for my taste in the real world. Sometimes it gets so bad that I refuse to watch the news for a week or two, advise my friends that there are topics I'd rather we not discuss for a bit, and mostly just want to deal with my day to day life.

Dead by Daylight, for me at least, is a great game. It is pure. There are good guys and bad guys. There is a struggle. It isn't complex or annoying. We go in and we play. I don't care who you are in the real world. Here we are just Killers and Survivors. There is only the match at the moment. And when I enjoy a game like this I tend to study it, strive to improve, and this leads me to Content Creators. Many of you are very good at the game. Some of you are even funny outside the game. I watch/subscribe to your shows to learn more.

Now we get to the advice. I unsubscribed to several of you today. The reason is simple, you are no longer entertaining nor are you particularly educational. It is like watching the news with partisan politics intruding. There was no value in the discussion either, because it wasn't really about Dead by Daylight anymore, but rather ego. I don't go to your shows to watch you talk about someone else's shows or opinions. I'm there to get your take on the game. I don't need your help to make my mind up about other Content Creators; I will make my own informed opinions. Thus, when you start to sound like you are running against each other in an election, I am out.

My advice to any and all Content Creators is that if you do a "crossover" episode that it be done in a friendly, polite way. It should actually have some value to us even if you disagree about something. By in large, I think they should be avoided. The only "crossovers" I ever want to see are special events and largely ones that are funny, friendly, and self-deprecating. Such things will only improve the viewership of all involved. Mostly, since I come to watch you because of Dead by Daylight, I ultimately want your shows to REALLY be about Dead by Daylight. All of us can sense, on some level, when it is about something else.

Internet drama is ridiculous to begin with but internet drama started because of a video game? Seriously?

Ik exactly what you're talking about btw.

Drama has them getting more views on videos. The die hard fans are going to watch the videos of both to see what content creator 1 is saying and what content creator 2 is responding with. The fans may be spewing hate in chat/comments but they're still adding to the view counts on YouTube/Twitch. Couple weeks (or sooner) from now drama will move onto someone else and everyone will forget this current drama.

This is just standard unnecessary drama for attention that's been a thing for longest time. Thanks to social media you end up seeing it way more often and it's in all sorts of communities. I've seen it between comedians, authors, actors, musicians etc. One month they're stirring up drama with eachother, next month they're buddies.

I think the problem is that for every person like you who opts not to watch them, there is somebody else that always will. It’s sad to say but they feed off of it.

They don’t care if they look like silly middle aged women or men. They only care about how much clout they have. They see being rude and obnoxious as them being them without remorse or shame because they have an audience that keeps telling them “keep doing that”.

I personally love having conversations about this game and debating with my own friends about it. I think it’s a fun aspect of the nature of the game, it’s just sad when people turn it into a toxic environment in their own channel. I’ve wanted to start streaming but seeing how some of the bigger streamers act feels very discouraging.

My advice for you is to not put too much energy into it, there are MANY other streamers who while small have far better content and are good at the game minus the overblown ego. I’ve made it goal to watch at least one new person every week, and just pop in to say hi 👋. I feel like this we can do as a community is encourage those who are a good sport but also remain respectful even when they know they don’t have to be.

Well said. It's been handled very unprofessionally. It's honestly very embarrassing and it shows people's true colors.

I know this community isn't the best, but these content creators should be setting a better example for their communities. They're a public figure and they should know better. Period.
