Then make it chest/item “Tinkerer”.
Survivors reveal their location when they interact with a chest or when they pick up an item within 64m of your location, and you gain the Undetectable Status Effect for 12 seconds.

They could also just make the first two chests searched have to spit out a green key, like how pharmacy does with medkits.

I agree with a change like that. Giving them 2 chests in exchange for tracking that you can miss the window for is a bit much.

Yeah pretty much. It’s why Hoarder only really work with Twins, because Victor is the only one with the speed AND stealth to ambush a survivor.
Maybe Wraith too with his recent buffs.
Any other killer gets nothing out it.

I feel like if the devs just made a seperate but identical chest object(aka junk chests) it would fix the perk.
As this would for example let the devs force the two extra junk chests to always drop a half depleted brown med-kit or a brown toolbox instead of needing to mess with the chest drop pool for normal chests.
It would expose that your using it but it also is trolling the survivor as half depleted brown med-kits and toolboxes are effectively useless in most situations.

The original intention was that Hoarder was also meant to dramatically reduce the rarity of items found in chests, but they couldn’t get it to work properly.

Why would coins which in this example would spawn "chests" objects meanwhile this perk would spawn "junk chests" objects cause issues?
Its why my suggestion separates the extra "chest" perk spawns from the normal chest objects in the game.
Edit: The developers have already done this idea with nemesis and his vaccine chests(they aren't the same looking but are a seperate chest entity with its own drop pool).
