Dead by Island: Do You Want a Tropical Map?
Hey everyone!
So I was just in a party of Survivors where everyone happened to be wearing the Summer Skins for their characters.
It Totally looked like we were about to go on a vacation in Hawaii.. and it got me thinking -
Wouldn't it be cool if we had a map that was a Beach/Island Tropical style. I mean it's been prominent in many Horror Movies in the past so it could fit the genre easily. Even games like Dead Island exist, so between all the things I've seen with similar locations in other horror movies/games I don't think it is too far fetched.
I think (especially with summer character outfits and if someone wanted to use a map offering) it would be really fun to play on a map with Palm Trees, Tropical plants to hide behind, sand to run through, and a beach, etc. I think it could be done very creatively and fun to play on.
Of course the first question that came to my mind was, how could it possibly work with Exit Gates?
Well, a fun/cool and possibly easy solution would be to just have the exit gates spawn in front of lets say a "Dock" with a Boat on it. So you still have to open a gate, to get out onto the dock/pier but there's a boat at the end of it on the water, and if you manage to escape that just means that you made it on to the boat successfully, for example.
And technically if it was an actual Island, then there could be water on all sides of the map, and the Exit Gates or "Boat Docks" could spawn at any of the 4 walls (or water surrounding the island) so it would work just the same as it does now.
It's just something very different that I haven't seen in Dead by Daylight yet, but I think it would be a fun map to play on, and it would allow the art team to get pretty creative with it I think. What do you guys think? Do you think a map like this if it is done correctly could possibly end up one of your favorite maps? haha
EDIT:
Just another fun idea I came up with for it, that may also technically be used on other maps as well if they wanted to, but I think it could look really cool on an Island map..
If the Island was "NIGHT-TIME" map, then they could possibly have it so that when the End Game Collapse begins, the Sunrise begins off in the distance over the water in a direction.
That would be a creative way to stay true to the "Dead by Daylight" title, lets say it's dark/nighttime the whole match, until the Survivors finally reach the End Game Collapse which is the end pinnacle/climax of the game, and the sun begins to rise so you can see some more sunlight in the sky, showing that this is your moment to "Escape" or else you will be quite literally "Dead by Daylight".
Would just look really nice seeing the sunrise off in the distance over a body of water I think, but also a fun idea that sticks to the theme of the game don't you think? ^^

Bump.. No one thought this was an exciting idea? :(
I was so thrilled when I came up with it lol. Had to come to the forums immediately!

I think it's an awesome idea!

I like it. I've had a few ideas myself. I'm down.

Awesome idea

Have the Killer be a giant crab that can burrow
3 -
That would be so romantic. We can have coconut drinks straight from the coconut and eat seafood and bananas from the local fauna/ flora.
My fake boyfriend, Leo Kenneth who will be here on the 15th with ms. annoying grunts, ms. eeuuughhh, can dive into the beach with a sharp stick and get some food for us to eat later in our date like in the movies.

I think it'd be awesome! I've had a dream for a few years now to one day own a small island on a lake and run a haunted house on it. Have a property on shore and have designated guides row a boat with guests out to the island, maybe some actors jumping out of the water, etc... Islands are great for horror because without a boat you can't just leave. I imagine an island map on dbd where each exit gate leads to a dock with a boat like you said and maybe a fence around the island or allow players to run in shallow water on a beach and the entity drags them under if they go too deep and they respawn somewhere on the map or something. Could be really interesting.

Tropical would be a neat theme, but it couldn't be too brightly colored. DBD is usually about darker colors, with some cosmetics ( and one killer ) bringing some brightness to the game.

i thought the vacation resort from I Still Know What You Did Last Summer could be a cool tropical map. With the exit gates I thought only one side should be beach/sea as a barrier that can’t spawn exit gates, and the other 3 sides can still be the usual walls

Oh Thank You! <3 That makes me feel better haha. I was hoping I wasn't the only one ^^
Oh, well feel free to share or elaborate! But that's cool, I wonder if this is something they may actually eventually consider. Could be a great Summer theme! Even maybe a Lake, Summer Camp Lake style or somethin, though I prefer Island/Tropical it's more unique and different.
LOL .. that would be kind of hilarious. Not sure if it's the best idea for a killer, but really funny at least lol.
OMG, I absolutely love this!!! haha totally - it would be a fun map to kind of RP playing Survivor on haha.

Haha wow, that's so cool! Very creative! I do think the easiest way for them to solve the problem would be a fence though haha, like you stated, that's a great solution! Although the other would be more fun and interesting for sure haha

That's EXACTLY what I was thinking about in my head actually! No joke! lol
OMG - though it's not the most exciting Killer, that could be a fun Licensing idea for the Know What You Did Last Summer franchise. And I suppose a "Hook" swinging Killer can't be all too bad, I can imagine quite a few different cosmetics for him already haha.
This would be super neat ^^

One of the more interesting map concepts I've seen. I think if the dev's did it right it'd be a really cool map.
2 -
Agree! I would imagine they could do it sort of balanced in color, maybe some things that are pretty but others darker jungle vibe or something, maybe a Hotel, some Cabanas, Beach Huts with windows to vault etc. :P see, so many possibilities!

Why not? There are a lot of opportunities for cool, unique maps. I think that map diversity is one of this game's biggest strengths and I'd like to see more of it.
- Tropical resort
- Shopping mall (Dawn of the Dead)
- Cemetery (This should be obvious)
- Creepy mansion / estate
- Abandoned mine
- Derelict railyard (train cars)
- Construction lot
- Deep woods (not just some trees here and there, I mean DEEP woods. Canopy, etc.)
- Summer camp
- Apartment complex
- Hotel
- Lakeside
- Empty city streets (28 Days Later, I Am Legend, A Quiet Place)
- Morgue
- Underground tunnels (Session 9)
- Hedge maze
- Park / playground
4 -
Wow! You've really put some thought into it, I love all the suggestions! :D
Some of those I think would be REALLY cool.

I love this idea
1 -
I still think if we get another stranger things map, we would NEED starcourt mall

Thank you! While some just popped into my head, others are ones that I've envisioned while playing and thought "Now THAT is a map I would love". I'm a huge fan of the 1978 Dawn of the Dead so the concept of playing a horror game in a mall is awesome to me. Someone else mentioned it but it's been on my mind as well. Same with a cemetery. How can this game NOT have a cemetery yet?
I also love the idea of a hotel. Maybe not something huge like the overlook in The Shining but even just a modern, average two or three-story hotel like what you or I or anyone else might stop at along the highway - just creepily abandoned. Same with the apartment complex. Silent Hill 3 did the construction building very nicely, and there are moments of real fright in Session 9 that take place in the (real, and still existing at the time) underground mental patient tunnels in Danvers State Hospital.
I guess I find myself thinking "where would I myself be most scared if I ran into a killer at night". Parks and playgrounds are incredibly eerie at night. Deep woods, so deep you can't see daylight (no pun intended). I certainly wouldn't want to be in some kind of mine or cave like in The Descent. *Shudders*

A mall is at or near the top of my list. A little Dead Rising, sure, but they weren't the first to come up with the idea. I remember that first-run copies of the game came with stickers on the cover that said something like "in no way totally ripped off from George Romero's Dawn of the Dead", lol.

You and I share tastes. screw all these "forests" we currently have. I want dense forests with as little humans touches as possible. Have the windows and pallets be embeded in the nature for windows and pallets in between trees and other natural phenomenon. some t-walls and then the killer shack. I would also love a hedge maze. and a cave/mine shaft. And I would also love a haunted mansion.
2 -
Some of the maps I would like to see are listed by Miketheratguy so I'll keep to ones that haven't been said. This would be incredibly difficult to balance but imagine a mirror maze.
1 -
Yes, I would love a tropical themed map.
1 -
Awesome, I hadn't even thought of the "windows" being organic holes in the shrubbery. That's a great idea.
I used to live near a park that, while not being as deep and dense as a mountain forest or anything, had woods that were thick enough that a disembodied human torso was found there in the early 80s. The kind of woods where you can walk around and get lost, where the trees form actual walls and the canopy above your head blocks out the night sky. THAT'S the kind of forest I want to see. My cousin and I used to visit the one I'm describing all the time, in the middle of the night, all alone, and heard all kinds of weird sounds that we couldn't explain. There's a special vibe to creaking, ominous dark woods that this game, as great as its foresty maps are, has yet to replicate.

Speaking of dreams, I actually had a dream earlier this year where I was playing Blight on a tropical beach map. Also that sounds spooky.
1 -
yeah haunted/spooky/scary locations are my thing. I haven't gone to one in forever.
2 -
I’d be especially disappointed if Dyer Island isn’t added.
0 -
Ohh that's pretty trippy! o.o
1 -
I can see why you enjoy DBD :P

I didn't know that I wanted this until I saw this thread, but, yes -- I want it.
1 -
Instead of exit gates it would be untie the boat and leave or something.
0 -
I'll take any map so long as I can see where I'm going and can't get lost.
1 -
Give us a pirate killer and a beach map. Done!
2 -
Ima be honest I love water in games if they make a beach map and let the killers walk around in the ocean (which would never happen) I would just sit in the ocean who cares if i lose not me.
But really I love water and the beach vibe in games and if the devs could make a beach or a tropical island without oversaturating it with too much brightness I'm there every single time. Ill pay 20 bucks for a beach map with a beach Doctor skin.
The doc skin is simple his head has goggles for swimming with a little sunscreen on his nose, his weapon is an umbrella, and his lab coat is now a tropical shirt its unbuttoned and he is wearing swimming trunks with flip flops. Best skin.

Oh man, I could share some stories with you about the weird things we experienced in the woods, lol. There are also allegedly haunted locations in the town I'm from (Kenosha WI) but I've never experienced anything that I couldn't attribute a rational explanation to.
1 -
I mean just in general more maps would be nice that aren't realm specific. I genuinely hate how new maps tend to be 5 subtle variations of each other. I would rather BHVR go all out on 1-2 maps each update. Lery's is a good example of this.
1 -
I don't particularly like this one.
as in... I like it, but I don't really care if it ever gets added.
it's ok.
0 -
lol Right?! haha
OMFG
YES! Hahaha, I totally agree with everything you stated, even the "which would never happen" part, but it's too bad cause I am 100% right there with you lol... even if your losing the match, whatever, just go enjoy the water :P haha, but yeah there would be a lot of "roleplay" options for side fun, and I think water can look really neat in games like you pointed out too. That's a GREAT Doctor skin, I am really enjoying the idea of different Survivor / Killer skins that are summer/beach/bathing suit oriented, lots of thoughts going through my head lol.
Yeah that would be really cool if they just did all out new maps less frequently instead, although I guess many ppl are saying that the new Resident Evil map is very true to the game. That's possibly one example of them trying to do that, but I would love to see more, and more variety of styles.
Aww really? Haha, that's interesting, I honestly cannot tell you why it is but I am totally on the other side of it like the person that said "I didn't know I needed this until I read this thread" earlier -
I had NO idea that this was something I wanted, it never even crossed my mind, but now I simply cannot even play DBD without it crossing my mind that I WANT to play on a Tropical Map and I need them to hurry up and build it already! lols :X
I think its the summer air and all the new beach Survivor skins etc.. really bringing in the vibes for me personally.

Dyer island has been mentioned in Felix, blight and Elodie's backstories it would be really cool if we got it.
