Don't cleanse totems to counter Noed
Just remember the totem locations when you see them.
If you cleanse totems it could happen that the last totem will be hidden somewhere where you can't find it.

I'll stick with cleansing them. So much more satisfying to deny it even activating.

But everyone keeps saying "just do bones"
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I run small game not just to cleanse totems but look for hex perks. It ain't always about noed.
2 -
Best counter to NOED is to die before end game.
31 -
I had a match where I cleansed 4 totems but killer had NOED. Killer downed someone as soon as last gen was completed. When I found the last totem it was right next to the gen that player had completed by themself at the start of the match (myself and other two were across the map at the time). That player died on first hook during the end of the match because they didn't cleanse that one dull totem and by time I found and cleansed that totem there wasn't much time left to save them.
3 -
Not cleansing them as you find them is risky. If the killer is able to get to any remaining survivors before any of them can get back to the totem then it is potentially match over for that survivor. Many survivors won't risk rescuing a survivor while NOED is active. if the killer is running Blood Warden then things have have become worse.

so true from my experience.
3 -
So the counter to noed is to cleanse totems so it wont proc, yet you say not to cleanse totems so noed will still proc is the true counter? Why are survivors so against just doing bones?
2 -
That one made me laugh lol
2 -
Depends on the flow of the match. If were doing gens and the killer has hardly any hooks. I will go out of my way to find totems for fear of NOED. If were getting our asses handed to us then I just risk it and rush gens.
1 -
Because having 4 solo survivors search the entitle map to see if all 5 totems have been cleansed with little to no indication of this fact that can be easily seen is a surefire way to guarantee your team is dead.
3 -
This is the ultimate counter.

It is not easy in solo queue, you just have to hope the killer doesn't have it.

Detective's Hunch is your friend.

Especially when totems spawn near gens, in loops, near loops, out in the open by a random tree. Lets not forget small game that pretty much tells you where they are. Nah, solo's doing totems is completely out of the question.
0 -
You might as well just take them out as you find them. It reduces the risk of forgetting where they are and increases the chances that NOED will never come into play.
2 -
Solos shouldn't have to use perks, items, or add-ons for information that SWF get for free :)
6 -
Than play with friends.

is precicely how we do not balance dead by daylight thank you for your time, the door is on your left

If you’re using this strategy, my thought is that it’s better to cleanse obscure totems that are hard to find, and leave 1-2 that are easy to find like the hill totems. It could be you that noed gets, and when you’re sitting on a hook, your memory doesn’t do any of the other players any good.

Yeah, especially since other people do this as well.
I hate people insisting on cleansing totems to counter NOED. That's like saying the counter to pop is to only ever have 4 people on a gen.
2 -
If the killer is tunneling, if the killer is a good player, or if the killer is using a busted Killer/perks/adddons whatever combo... the time spent hunting and doing totems as a solo means your team is dead. Solos have to gen rush in these cases to have a shot.

I run Detective's even on the rare occasion I'm in a swf. It's just a great overall perk even in swf.

I agree with the OP -- if you're pressed for time, leaving dull totems in highly visible places it's a good way to split the difference. Cleanse totems you find in weird, hidden places, and leave the super obvious ones. If NOED pops up, you know some places to look, and you have at least a chance that it pops up in one of those places instead of the one you didn't find.

Yea, Do Dabones

I see a totem I cleanse it. Doesn't matter if it glows or not. I see injured teammate, I heal them.
Anything that keeps my game interesting so its not just M1 gen simulator or running in the circles around a loop 3 times to drop a pallet and then repeat.
Noed was used maybe 2 times in my last 50 games? Once it was cleansed and we got 4 escape, second time it got killer another hook and 2k since the rest of us were dead on hook anyway, so we didn't bother looking for it and just left.
But this is in red ranks, dunno how often killers use it in other ranks

That doesn't change my point in the slightest.

I'd rather cleanse totems because otherwise I'll forget where they are.
2 -
Totally agree. At least don’t cleanse the totem in front of the last gen, cleanse the gen before. It get me sick when I see it

The other survivor had no way of knowing the other four totems were down though, unless they were running small game or on comms with you.
This is why the totem counter should've been baseline.
3 -
Being in a swf doesn't find the totems for you. That's my point.
1 -
No, but it does let you know how many totems are left. All 4 solo players would have to use Detective's to get the same value as 1 survivor using it in a SWF, or they'd leave cleansing totems to one member of the team. But you can't coordinate builds beforehand and you can't communicate mid-game.
So again, you're still getting more information than solos when you swf, and solos shouldn't have to use perk slots, items, or add-ons to get this information.

Just do bones guys. Super efficient way to counter a perk that happens occasionally!

"DON'T CLEANSE TOTEMS TO COUNTER NOED"
Nice try killer main, you aren't tricking me!
1 -
They also counted on being the one to go back to that totem instead of the possibility of them being the one to be downed by NOED. The whole "go back to the totem you saw if NOED activates" is only a good idea if you're not the one on the hook.

Bones are an easy 1000 bp. If I see one, I do it, and I always run Small Game because when I don’t it always comes back to haunt me. It’s worth mentioning that if Undying is in play the killer will still be able to see you if the bones you are refusing to cleanse are close enough to the gen you’re working on.
As an aside, you need to cleanse any totem you find near a gate. If NOED appears there it is going to be very hard to cleanse if the killer is already patrolling. I had a situation a few days ago where three totems were done and one was right next to me so I kept it there in case of noed. When I finished it didn’t light up so I was hoping I was good to go. Nope. It went to an undiscovered one that was equidistant between two closely spawned gates in the perfect spot for Oni to guard from. It was also not far from a gen finished no doubt by some guy that thought “Don’t cleanse bones to counter NOED”.

Cleansing the totem takes 16 seconds in other words 20% of a generator which can be often more detrimental. If you actually have to manuever a bit to get to the totem the number gets higher. If your team has the time to afford for you to do that its fine but if you guys are having a close match you are throwing by not contributing to the objective.

for me that entirely depends on what stage of the game we're in.
if we're at 3 to 5 gens, ill cleanse every totem i get the chance to.
if we're at 1 to 2 gens, i'll stick with remembering the spots and checking them once the endgame triggers or me having all 5 memorized, so i go around quickly to break them.
2 -
Never liked Small Game personally.

Here's how I see it. If you don't cleanse all of the totems, don't cleanse any. If there's a hex, that's the exception.
If you won't follow my advice, at least leave up the totems that are in the obvious spots, and destroy the ones in the hard to find spots. NOED will be down in like 30 seconds if you find it in the obvious spot.
