Why is there more than one of the same survivor?

I know it's for gameplay but is there another reason?

    The devs said in one of their last streams that it is just because of the gameplay as they didn't want to restrict people in what survivor they could choose

    I think in that same stream they said that the lore reason was that the entity's realm exists outside of time so you could get the same charterers in one match.

    Its because the Entity feeds on hope and the best way to drain that hope from someone is to extract it will a last second 4 man Claudette swap.
