I just noticed that the character info pages for all three new characters are like, a single paragraph.
On top of that, its not even creative. Jill goes into a drafty room and then gets narnia'd, Leon literally has the same backstory as Nancy and Steve (Checked out a lab, got fogged), and Nemesis just blinked after fighting Jill.
Even Executioner and Cheryl had multiple paragraphs and SOME amount of effort.
My Sophmore year English teacher would be so disappointed in you, Devs. You make me sad.

I don't think they have much creative freedom when it comes to their backstories because of licensing issues. It's probably not because they're lazy.
Remember, each license is different and some characters are allowed a lot more freedom than others.

my assumption would be that Capcom had to approve the backstory (as well as every other content) after they initially agreed on what to do. So they probably had way more to say in this and chose to let this get into the game as it is now.

The content's quality is something else, but i've always preferred it when they keep it short.

It's not Capcom, Capcom doesn't need BHVR and DbD to get popularity on the characters. Capcom loses no money in the Chapter being hot garbage. The Map was disabled not because of Capcom, Players are facing severe performance issues not because of Capcom. It's not because of Capcom...

I know, youd think they wouldnt care if BHVR wrote a good backstory, and for that matter I dont think they did.
I believe this is just a sign of all the cut corners the devs pulled in their haste to recover their losses from the last few crappy chapters. RE is a cash grab.

You would be surprised how much power license holders have over their characters, do you really think that the same people who wrote Yun-Jin Lee and Felix's lore are too "lazy" to write more than five sentences about Nemesis or Jill? Are you serious?

This is about character bios, which is Capcom, and not the 103 other issues with the patch, which is not Capcom.
Look at their more recent characters- Elodie, Trickster, Felix, Twins; their backstories are really long and detailed. I doubt that BHVR would just decide "So lads you've done a great job these past couple chapters, so for this chapter I want you all to do ######### all"

I like to see how they integrate these liscensed characters into their universe, and can appreciate well written crossovers.
Sorry you have can't enjoy a good story, or revel in others' creativity.

But herin lies my complaint. They did such a good job before. Ghostface was well written too, and he's liscenced. I'm sure a skilled writer could find ways to make Capcom happy, while still doing a good story.

Ghostface as a mask is licensed. Ghostface as a character is completely original- Danny "Jed Olsen" Johnson exists nowhere but DBD and related fanworks.
So, no, all licensed characters have short lore.

Ghost face is a semi licensed killer as they got the license to the mask from the company that actually owns it but not the scream franchise(as scream licensed it from said company) hence why there's nothing from scream in DbD.
Aka Ghost Face is both an original killer story wise while his appearance is licensed making him both paradoxically an applicable example and not applicable at the same time.

For the record, I highly recommend you give 'A Song of Pelinal' series in Skyrim a try. Its a good read.

Of all the licensed characters you could pick, you chose the only one who is a very peculiar case.
Ghostface's MASK is licensed, not the Scream character, they could have come up with ANY lore and it would have probably been fine since the mask is just a generic halloween mask.
Anyway, sure, probably a good writer could have been able to make Capcom happy, and I'm sure there are very good writers in BHVR judging from the lore of the last characters, but if Capcom says "Nah fam, keep it as minimal as possible, we don't want you to explain our characters' lore in your game" BHVR can do absolutely nothing about it.
Probably more or less the same thing that Konami did for the Silent Hills skins: they probably said "No no no no, we don't want players to ######### around with skins, you either keep them linked, or you don't release them".

Guys Capcom doesn't need to give them creative freedom with the Backsotry, BHVR just needs to put the existing backstory into DbD. It's simple copy and paste and not even that did they do. This isn't a creative freedom problem. BHVR simply did not give these characters their backstory.

THEY own the characters, THEY decide how you describe THEIR characters in the game
Some license holders are more relaxed than others, of course (Stranger Things comes to mind), but if they wanted, they could say "Nope, I don't like THIS, do it like THAT" about virtually ANYTHING

Some of you have never heard the stories of how protective of their characters Capcom is, and it shows.
Look into the behind the scenes stuff of the RE live-action films and you'll see. Capcom was apparently very particular, especially early going, as to what their characters could/couldn't do, or what characters could or couldn't appear. Hell, word has it that's why they ended up going with Paul W.S. Anderson's script in the end over George Romero's.
My favorite story is how when they got to the third film, we finally got Wesker, series big-bad... but if you read the original script, he wasn't in it - his part was some random Umbrella guy. Word is, that's because Capcom hadn't yet agreed for them to use Wesker yet, when they finally got the go-ahead, they just changed the name and a few details, otherwise the character is exactly as he was in the original script.

The only lazy thing regarding this chapter is searching through a recolored chest to get vaccine which has animation like a medkid. Was it too much to expect some new animation? 😅

Are you saying they picked the Remaked characters and that's why the backstories are #########? Cause that doesn't make sense at all, their backstory is exactly the same. The Remakes didn't change the backstory for the characters, just events in the games are different, and that's mostly on RE3 Remake, but the lore is the same. Capcom doesn't need DbD, if the Chapter fails, wich it is already doing, then it doesn't hurt Capcom one bit, not only is DbD too small it's also just guest characters, their presence in DbD has no impact for what Capcom is gonna do with RE in the future or the Legacy of the characters in Gaming History, their presence in DbD is merely a foot note like something on a wiki page. It's DbD that should care about doing their best with the oportunity they have to use the characters.

To be fair with Nemesis, he was gonna be hard to bring over to the fog. Unless the Entity applied for a position in Umbrella's Bioweapons division so that it could gets it's hands(?) on a Nemesis Tyrant, there wasn't much they could do that would be believable. Nemesis isn't motivated by greed or other things that a normal human psychopath could be tempted with. It's only mission is to hunt down S.T.AR.S. members and to murder anyone that gets in his way with 0 shits given.

Lore is better short. They should be written like urban legends, not novels. Save the details for the Tomes.
