My boon totem theory
My theory on boon totems is that they’re the reverse of hex totems. They activate strong perks for Survivors once they are found and cleansed.
It’s an incentive to look for totems early-game instead of slamming generators. Essentially adding a new objective for Survivors that like risk/reward gameplay and bring boon perks.
Here’s an idea for one:
Boon: Long Run
Cleanse a Boon Totem to activate Boon: Long Run for the remainder of the trial.
Gain +5% haste status.
Extremely strong perk, but it requires you to spend the first 30-90 seconds running around the map looking for the Boon Totem.

Id like to see something like survivors voting on what boon totem with different effects to spawn within the trial before the match starts.

That’s a bit of a stretch for the Devs. If they could’ve done a pre-game voting system they would have done that for the maps years ago.

I kinda like the idea tbh.

Yeah, I’m wondering what it does exactly. Does it heal you? Restore your item to full? Does it give you a protection ward against a hit from the killer?
Seems like totems may need a buff after whatever this is goes live.

Yeah no. With how they hide totems, that wouldn't be fair at all.
2 -
How about a boon totem that makes you gain endurance status effect? Might be too powerful. Endurance for 40 seconds?
Haste, increase repair speed or healing speed is kinda obvious.
I believe the boom totems will be a survivor perk that only applies to the person equipped with the perk.

What if the killer knew where they were just as they know where hex totems are located? Would that make it fairer?

Not really unless they had the chance to break it.

Haste status effect doesn't sound good. Loops are balanced around the base movement speed of survivors and killers, a constant haste effect would be too much, even if a survivor had to cleanse one totem before.

Wow, my answer was so long it actually Dc'd from server and lost it all. I think this forum saved you from reading a novel.
I think, if they had the chance to break it, survivors wouldn't even see them.
I was thinking "camping" totems, or running inmortal to see whoever is looking for them.
Also, in my head, I have really silly advantages like: 3% regression if you fail a skill check instead of 4 or walking (not running, walking) 5% faster.
Something small enough so it doesn't give advantage over killers but that people would seek out because of the kinder surprise touch to it because you don't know what it is until you get it.

Walking 5% faster is fine, but running is OP.
5% is a lot of speed in this game. We can see this by the difference between 4.4 and 4.6 killers. It would make it almost impossible to catch a good survivor, and impossible if you're a 4.4 killer.

I know, I know. It was just an example and I made very clear I said walking and not running. Running would be having a 5th perk all game, not fair. But walking? Who cares, you know?
But that was my point, small little things that are enough to keep survivors entertained but not make things harder for the killer.

Yeah, I'd like that. Although, Fixated could make shack real nasty. It's fine though, since that isn't OP.

No, they should be tied to perks like hex totems. Survivors shouldn't get extra bonuses through totems.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone running it of they're not doing Nancy's adept or also run sprint burst.
The thing is, you would never know what's going to be so what are the chances of you running fixated and finding that totem and cleansing it and being that prize?

Good theory! Part me loves that idea... the other fears it.
I am imagining boon totem as an additional totem in the trial that will only spawn once survivors as a group have completed certain tasks. Even then I think the boon that is given will be timed. I also doubt the boon will be of any significance. 4 survivors supper charged along with 16 perks would insanity... unless killers can now destroy totems as well.
Maybe that is what the Gnome event was for? To test killer animation for stomping totems??? If that is the case then maybe Boons will be perks like Hexes and 4 boon totem will exist alongside the killer's hexes and dull totems. Maybe survivors have to find a dull totem and activate their boon? That would be a good way to keep them off gens too ^^
No matter what I am excited!!! I love when new mechanics come into the game.

True.

They literally said in the 5th anniversary livestream, and I quote, "Boon Totem Perks will give a brand new interaction to Survivors standing next to a Dull Totem in a Trail."
So no, you won't be cleansing the boon totem for a bonus.
