It's Not Stream Sniping, It's Aura Reading
Most recently I recognized a name, and went "Oh holy crap it's this person!" I quickly popped into their stream, wished them luck and informed them I was immediately leaving, and thusly left the stream.
Low and behold, after watching the VoD I was apparently under constant ridicule for "obviously stream sniping."
Now while I've only been playing rank 1 killer for about 3-4 months now and rank 1 survivor for only 2, it seems odd to me that people so readily jump to this conclusion.
With that we come to the purpose of my piece: survivor main streamers, there are killers in this game that are capable of reading your auras and tracking you with it. I know it sounds crazy but it's true. The reason that Myers that won't level up his Evil Within past rank 1 isn't because he's bad, but because he can see you through walls up to about 32 meters away. That Wraith you juked by hopping in a locker when he wasn't looking didn't cheat when he came back to grab you, he (for the time being) saw you standing in there.
There are so many aura reading abilities in this game for survivor and killer both so let's be mindful of that before complaining about the wrong thing. Naturally, of course, this is all fruitless and I am going to be blamed irregardless, but it feels good to vent my annoyances so I'm at least yelled at for the proper thing.

Of course the easy solution to stream sniping is to put a delay on the stream. But NOOOO they need to interact with people in that exact moment. If you stream you open yourself up to snipers.
I don't stream. Guess how many times I've been stream sniped?

I know some streamers that're really cool that do a delay and their fans are ok with it but yeah stream sniping sucks.

Yeah they jump to conclusions way too quick. But it's like how when you find someone in that locker due to aura reading and after the game they call you a hacker.

I should also add: not all of us can afford top of the line internet and/or computers. If you get in my killer lobby, there is a very real chance I might occasionally spike in latency slightly from time to time. Doesn't happen often but it can happen.
Remember: your ping in a lobby is not my machine under stress of the match. As such your ping is probably going to be higher in game.1 -
Has happened to me more than once lol...The_Crusader said:Yeah they jump to conclusions way too quick. But it's like how when you find someone in that locker due to aura reading and after the game they call you a hacker.0 -
It is easier to explain bad gameplay if the other person is possibly cheating. You handed the streamer an excuse when you announced your were in chat, this makes it a lot easier for them to fall back on this excuse.

Stream sniping is so fun! You get to see their faces as you face camp them when you check in their stream that the rest of the survivors are not doing gens

Well if you need that crutch sure.
I prefer to get my kills the good old fashioned way :pirate:

Stream sniping is and should remain bannable. However, if you're going to put your stream link in your username, you should also take precautions to avoid stream sniping. The whole point of turning yourself into a billboard is that people go watch your stream; you can't have it both ways.

Not so a killer can trivialise the whole point of the game by knowing where you're heading or where you're hiding.
Of course survivors do this too if one of them dies in a SWF they can ghost a streamer killer.
Either way it's lame.

Like I said, you can't have it both ways. Using a URL as your display name is an implicit invitation to everyone to click on/follow the link. That's why you take precautions such as stream delays.
Personally, when I'm streaming, I post the link after the trial is over, instead of turning my name into an ad. That prevents stream sniping.0 -

But let's use common sense here it's not an invitation to trivialise the whole game and make it an easy game for one person and ruin the experience of another.
It's an invitation once the game is done to drop a "Hey good game" or "I enjoyed playing with you wanna make a group"

And if we lived in a perfect world with perfect people, that would matter.
The instant you use a stream URL as your display name, you're turning yourself into a target for stream sniping. Everyone who's done it knows it. Hell, I've never done it (I hate ads) and even I know it. Not taking precautions at that point is just irresponsible.0 -

Should that person lose viewers or have to live with stream snipers simply because some boosted survivor/killer can't learn to play the game properly?
You say it's bannable? but i don't think i have seen anyone banned in this game for anything outside of blatantly running hacks.
They should literally remove every report button except for "Exploits" at this point.

That person has a choice: change their name so it's no longer a URL, add a delay, or deal with the occasional stream snipers. The instant there's a solution to your problem, but you refuse to use it, you are at least partially to blame as well.
You say their viewers are not happy? Are their viewers happy with the stream snipers? Does that person even want viewers who would rather they have a bad gaming experience than deal with something as insignificant as a delay?
I always tell what few complainers I get one simple thing: if you don't like it, you can leave. I'm there to play games that I like the way that I like. Sure, I don't get a lot of viewers (like I said, I don't turn my name into a URL, for one, and I have limited time and resources to stream), but I have a few regulars, and they actually enjoy my streams, even when I have to block certain parts of the screen or add a little delay. I have fun, they have fun.If it can be proven, the devs will ban stream snipers. A friend of mine corrected me, apparently stream sniping is no longer bannable because it's borderline impossible to prove. I've seen people banned for things besides hacks.

In any case, Twitch has the possibility to give an arbitrary delay to one's stream. Anyone who's streaming a game like Dead by Daylight, in which stream-snipping can yield an unfair advantage, the streamer should put in a big enough delay for that information (the player's location) to not be valid anymore.
