#UnlinkTheSets

You do realize that even if you were to buy $10 worth of auric cells, that you would still have leftover cells, and therefore would not be paying the equivalent of 10$ for those two pieces? Right?
2 -
Is that confirmed somewhere?

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I feel that they should...

So they've never linked unlicensed sets? Glad I got that straight! Would be embarrassing to comment on something that was just plain wrong 😁

You wouldn't have enough to buy another purple cosmetic piece. You have enough to at most buy 1 rare cosmetic piece but either way you still need to pay $10. The devs get $10 no matter what.
2 -
You ever stop to think that maybe.....just maybe....they might have a licensing agreement that doesn't allow them to unlink that stuff?
0 -
Why is it fair that I paid 1080 for a full set but people who bought one item for 400 get to keep the full set?
If I don't get a full refund and get to keep the cosmetic I think that's grounds to sue!
1 -
Like someone already said, BHVR losing money. More people deciding to not buy into this cash grab versus if you just kept them unlinked and let me mix/match.
If its not on BHVR, understandable. But this seems like something BHVR would do 200%.
6 -
If it wasn't BHVR they wouldn't do it for non-licenced characters also. Nobody would mind not being able to put centaur Oni head with a different body. But not letting us change weapons? Greek Janes head piece? This 100% stinks of BHVRs greed
4 -
They did, but most of the time they linked cosmetics that wouldn't work if you mix and match them
There are a few exception (like, 2, maybe 3?), yes, but you cannot say that BHVR is exploiting sets left and right

The two pieces of the skin are still only 800 auric cells, which still isn't the equivalent to 10 dollars, meaning the other auric cells could go toward something that goes on sale later, rift levels, or just part of a new piece that comes out in the future. At this point you're just trying to play semantics.

Break the sets. If the meshing for the torso and legs need to be linked, fine. But heads on survivors and weapons on killers?
#UnlinkTheSets
5 -
Yea they should #unlinkthesets
2 -
gonna keep coming back here to say this but #unlinkthesets BHVR. There is no reason to keep skins linked on original characters(at least) other than greed.
2 -
Pffrt fake. Thats why we can mix some parts of non linked that makes characters never seen anywhere in any licence ? ( greyhair pig with brown jacket for example ? David Tapp with a cap, xmas sweater, and cop pant to keep the image ? please haha they dont care about image preservation )
1 -
They make sets so that they don't have to test for clipping with other cosmetics if you were to mix and match. The reality is they want you to spend a lot of money on these, without them having to spend a lot of time/money making them. (This is also the reason OG characters have non-legendary sets, this whole "preserving the image of the license" is transparent nonsense)
On top of that, the game was never designed to have these types of interchangeable outfits, it needs a proper rehaul of the entire model system to give characters a base and have the outfits on top of the base. Right now it uses a poorly-implemented model replacer for each piece, and BHVR will never spend the resources needed to fix it.
So while I agree they should #UnlinkTheSets, what they really need to do is #PutInTheEffort and make the skins worth the money they ask with proper QA/testing for compatibility issues.

Jill and Leon not should have a head "skin" in first place, just like the michael myers skin from the store, who was just body/weapon without head.
but ofc, adding a head increase the price....
1 -
I didnt know Myers head wasn't even included! So they could have just done the same with Jill and Leon but just... didnt?
Yikes... Thats pretty greedy...

Yeah that licensed Kate Denson Octoberfest linked set is my favourite... Close second being the licensed Jane Romero linked set...
2 -
There is a difference between licensed linked sets and original linked sets.
the original ones are linked because they couldn’t be done because of clipping issues as separate sets and the creators felt restricted that way. The sets we have would not exist at all if it wasn’t for them to be linked.
now the question is why there are not 2 piece linked cosmetics with the third being unlinked and mix-and-match-able. Seemingly the devs stated this would be possible but never used it. But most people here are not complaining about this but are complaining unreasonably over the licensed linked sets.
1 -
So now we know Cheryl's could be unlinked if BHVR wanted to, how many other characters does this apply to, hmm? How far down does the rabbit hole of "preserving a character's image" go?
15 -
well damn, lemme get my popcorn as I cant wait to see what happens
2 -
I cant beleive somebody went out of their way go ask Konami. Their response is kinda weird too.
To me, that neither denies nor confirms anything.
I read it as saying they have no input on DBD characters, or storylines or gameplay. Cheryl is not a DBD character, they said in their email she is a Konami license. So maybe im dumb but that email doesnt really ammount to anything regarding if they do or do not have a say over their license. It just says they cant speak for DBD characters, story or i guess gameplay.
The email is so nonspecific you can literally twist it anyway you wanted to.

Simply, Konami has no creative input for how the characters appear in-game, only that they have the license to use said characters/names/locations/etc.
This includes perks, their written DBD lore, their powers, and their cosmetics. It's why, for example, Cheryl can have an Xmas sweater despite it not being in any game, and similarly for PHead's sets. They are born from creative freedom BHVR has to use the characters as they choose. Which means they oh-so-creatively chose to force linked cosmetics, be it for greed or laziness (and not having to QA clipping with other pieces), and they pass their decision/laziness onto the consumer's wallet instead.
4 -
What? No we dont
3 -
It doesnt specifically state that tho, the language used is too broad for my tastes. Like I said before what they are saying can be twisted and used for different perspectives.
I still am interpreting it as they have no imput on anything on DBD that is not silent hill licensed.
Unless something more specific comes out, or a Mod can talk about these emails. Im not going to just blindly jump to anything atm. Not that any of this changes anything about things being sets.
They arent going to just turn off sets anytime soon.

It would be nice if BHVR actually answered us rather than us having to go through other companies.
Dont know how these companies will feel with the influx of people that have/will be reaching out for clarification regarding this...

I assume they just have stock replies they copy and paste then move on with their lives with. Assuming they even reply to everyone.

you cant tell people they wont get banned for glitch mix n matching so people buy more linked skins and THEN lock them after, that is extremely scummy and anti your own damn playerbase.
Sets that dont have to be sets SHOULD be unlinked, imo even those that dont match well with other stuff because of their proportions, that is up to the user to decide.
(and lets be honest, its not like BHVR does such a bang up job with outfits that are suppose to be mix and matched, how many half floating torso's must we have...)

Agree. Most of Fengs tops have clipping issues with the pants and nobody gives a flying [BAD WORD].
I cant think of anyone that would see clipping and think "I wish they stopped people wearing those items together. It makes the game unplayable"
Mix & matching doesnt make the game unplayable. The game breaking bugs do.
