So how long do you think you'll keep playing Dbd?

Title.

How long do you think it'll be before you finally call it quits? Or do you think you'll stick around til the game finally dies?

Until competent competition actually appears (likely never) or I finally have enough of the devs bs and clear lack of caring for their updates that I Uninstall for good.

A very long time to be honest. I know that's not the answer most people want to see, but here's the thing: I'm new to the game (about to start my fourth month) and thus haven't had to endure years of ups and downs like some of the rest of you poor guys have. I'm lucky enough, I guess, to be able to say that this is my first "problem period" with the game. And the last few times I played (which were admittedly before the hotfix, so I can't speak for the state of the game at this EXACT stage) went just fine. I assume that the issues that are being experienced right now - the major ones such as crashes or freezes or major lag spikes and maps not working correctly - will be fixed soon enough.

I know, you're all saying "HAHA, I can TELL you're new here" but eh. I spent half a decade on the THQ forums, playing the yearly WWE games and dealing with every possible response to every possible bug and every possible request from every possible type of player with every possible type of attitude so everything that you guys are experiencing right now is pretty old hat to me. Even the comments about wanting someone other than "an inept developer like BHVR" to handle the game, "someone who actually gives a #########", is something I've heard a thousand times. People were saying that on the regular up until 2K bought the WWE license, and now everyone's saying the same exact things five years later, lol.

In short, I love the game and will continue to play it until something egregious happens and I see ample evidence that the developers have no intention of doing anything about it.

I'm honestly not sure. Maybe I'll stray away from DBD once it has proper competition, just like Friday The 13th would've been if it wasn't for the lawsuit. Until then, I plan to keep booping snoots and patting Demodogs.

Hopefully the new Evil Dead game lives up to it's expectations..

I've been playing since 2018, and, while I have taken breaks here and there, I'm still playing today. If anything, optimization issues aside, I'm enjoying the game MORE than I have in the past.

While I don't exactly hold BHVR and their management of DBD in a very high standard, I'll be playing until I finally decide I'm done with the game. Which doesn't seem likely to happen for a LONG time.

    Probably not much longer.

The only reason I haven't quit yet is because I've dumped so much money into this game already.

The F13 game was never truly given the chance to meet its full potential. Players were complaining, griefers were griefing, and then the damn lawsuit. It's a shame. I still prefer DBD in most (but not all) ways but competition is always good and that lawsuit ######### sucks.

I've taken a lot of breaks with Dead by Daylight and it's generally one of the rare forms of PvP I'm okay with. My quarterly dividends from stocks make tossing a few bucks at this game every 3 months pretty mindless but for me it's something new and shiny to play with.

Will I take breaks in the future? Yeah. Definitely. Will I eventually wander back and mess around? Prolly. I still play EverQuest, Ultima Online, Maplestory and my other steam games once in a blue moon.

It really does. What makes it even more sad is that the devs created a roadmap of all of the things they were going to add into the game, some of which they directly listened to the fans for, and it all got thrown away because of the lawsuit. That game could've been so much more, and now I can't even get into a damn lobby.

  • miketheratguy
    miketheratguy Member Posts: 2,719

I was actually going to mention that roadmap! I remember it, I think they either debuted it, or I happened to first see it, just when I began playing. It was cool, it was a literal illustrated map that charted exactly what they were working on and in what order. I remember seeing that single player mode and being stoked. It didn't wind up being very good, but again, it's not like they were given much of a chance.

There are some things I REALLY miss about that game. The maps were MASSIVE and felt like actual, honest to god woods and campgrounds. I wouldn't want every DBD map to be like that but you bet I'd like at least some to be. The ability to run back and forth between a bunch of different cabins, sneak around the forest, swim across the lake, etc. That was so much fun. That was a really great game to play survivor on (not that I feel DBD isn't, just saying). And the fidelity to the source material, man. Just a TOTAL labor of love.

I'll say it again. Just a shame. Just a real, real shame.

At least until the next chapter, but if they don't address at least the optimisation issues then I'm probably going to take an indefinite break.

I know.. it made you feel like you were in an actual horror movie, especially when you were the last counselor running from house to house setting traps at the door and waiting for Jason to come in while you had your flare gun at the ready. Good motherfucking times man. Good. Times.

It's been seven months since I started to play. I have 1k hours for now.

I don't know what could make me quit outside of the end of the game for now.

Probably not any time soon. I have fun playing the game and I’m not really completely burnt out from the game yet. Not sure when I’ll quit but something really bad will have to happen for me to do that.

    miketheratguy Member Posts: 2,719

You know, these really aren't the responses I expected. It makes me feel good that despite the fact that so many players feel otherwise I'm not the only person who is willing to stand by this game despite the issues, imperfections and (hopefully temporary) inconveniences.

Heh I was, as I always am, a stealth guy more than anything so I got my rushes from getting away from Jason, jumping under a bed, and hoping that he didn't know that I was there. That's one of the things I loved about the game - the emphasis on hiding as opposed to direct confrontation. This game's the reverse, and that's fine because at least both options are available, but it's one thing to briefly hide in a locker and have your teammates yell at you for it and another thing altogether to have 50 hiding places that you NEED to use lest you die and die quick. Jason was OP - in a way that made me not enjoy playing him, to be honest - but because the game DID have a strong emphasis on hiding and sneaking that made his ridiculous OTT powers okay.

But flare gun or no, I totally agree, it was loads of fun to have something like a square mile to just run all over the place hoping like hell that Jason didn't happen to be near. As much as I love DBD, I have to admit that F13 did make the matches feel like they took place in actual locations, not prearranged battle arenas. Maybe that's why I like indoor maps so much? They feel more like real places to me.

Probably when DbD no longer holds a monopoly and a proper competitor gets released. If that competitor is better balanced and/or more fun then I'll probably just switch over.

Given how much its been over heating my PC idk if my computer can even handle the game in a few patches unless the devs do some serious optimization overhauls.

I can see the same thing happening for console players as well who also might not have a choice but to leave the game due to the horrible optimization.

  • Karao_Ke
    Karao_Ke Member Posts: 1,221

I completely agree because once Jason grabs you, it's over unless you have a pocket knife/a buddy nearby to strike him. I've had moments where I hid inside a wardrobe and watched him walk past me and moments where I danced with all of the other counselors while Jason was breaking down the door. That game allows you to be so free in what you do and I wish DBD felt the same way, considering there's multiple ways to escape rather than just one.

Dammit, all of this talk makes me want to go play it now.. wish me luck trying to find a lobby lol

For right now, I can't see myself dropping the game. Right now I'm not playing, because the huge frame skips/freezes are unbearable. When it's fixed, I'll play again. I was playing it daily.

LOL well if you do go to play then yes indeed, I wish you luck on finding a lobby. I haven't played in quite some time, I honestly thought for a while that the game had just been shut down altogether.

Probably till I find another multiplayer game I can become addicted to.

It was Zombies before this. I always said if they re-released Black Ops 1 on current gens I'd stop dbd.

Hey everyone, if you didn't already get the notification the Steam summer sale just began. Last time this happened Nintendo also launched an identical sale on the game and almost all of its DLC so if anyone's been waiting for the prices to drop on some missing stuff, regardless of your gaming machine of choice, now's definitely a good time to see if you can get it on the cheap.

I've spent so much time and money on this game that at this point I think the only thing that can actually get me to quit is if the game dies and the servers are shut off. This is my most played game by over 2k hours and I don't plan on quitting.

Dies? It's already dead isn't it matches are unplayable nemesis broke the game new players are leaving faster than they came it's quite poetic actually all them years the devs were warned and now we're finally here.

I really dont have an alternative. I hated playing multiplayer games like BF or Call of Duty. Or this trash like Fifa or other sport game with pay2win. Dbd is unique and thats why I will play this game for a long time.

....and yeah i also have spend to much money to quit it.😂

My health is not the best so if I die I will quit the game. Otherwise I will take breaks but continue playing.

Im thinking about taking a long break. Maybe until they introduce crossprogression and i can switch from ps4 to pc or if they solve the problems. (I doubt it)

Right now im feeling like a second class player. I need to wait two weeks to play the new chapter without gamebreaking bugs and the sad thing is that i expect the same for the next chapter, its atleast more likely then not.

I spend 2500 hours in DBD but i quit games with similar hours and never looked back. I dont care about the money i spent in games but i never spend more than 100€ in a game anyway. And all my friends dont want to play dbd bc of the grind and other problems. So the only thing i stayed for was the fun.

Either until the game dies or until they make it too bad for me. (Boring, dull, unplayable, etc.)

I can't point to a date for either of those, so all i can say is i'll stick around indefinitely.

As long as I can maintain the illusion that this is the same game I fell in love with back in 2018, I will stick around. If that means being here until the end, then so be it.
