Not cleansing against Plague stopped being effective a long time ago

It was a good strategy back when she was given one corrupted fountain for free, but now it is probably more detrimental depending on the circumstances.

The reason is because people did that to prevent her from getting corrupt purge. But now that she starts with one corrupt fountain for free, there isn't really a point in staying infected the whole game. So stop chewing out your team when they cleanse please, I saw this happen to a baby Claudette the other day, I did stand up for her but for the love of DBD don't go off on anyone who cleanses.

What you should be doing is cleansing in fountains that are inconvenient for her at the time. And by that I mean fountains that are far from where she is at the moment, but only when you really need to.

Times when you should cleanse is if the Plague is proxy camping around a survivor hooked in the basement, or if you are on death hook. It is okay to be infected for a little while, but just cleanse when you need to.

I agree with this. The day they gave her a fountain of corrupt purge I was like, "Well there goes that strategy" and I've mostly cleansed while being careful of where I cleanse.

Agreed. I fell out of love with Plague back in the old days when the meta was to never cleanse and push gens hard. Now that she gets a free fountain she's fun to play again because people actually give you your power - or they refuse to cleanse and you use your free fountain to snowball them.

Def one of the better changes the devs have implemented.

Agreed. So often I get players in postgame chat yelling at each other that it's their fault for cleansing when I barely used Corrupt Purge that match and kept punching out the same players that refused to cleanse with ease. Guys, if you don't want to cleanse, I am very comfortable with that fact, I enjoy you all being noisy one-taps, and I will save my fountain for when I can get several of you at once because now I do not even have to commit to a semblance of a chase, I can just knock you over like dominoes. There's times I'm happy that survivors cleanse and there's times I'm extremely frustrated when they do. "Never cleanse" is an antiquated strategy and one that will harm survivors as often as help them.

Plague's counterplay isn't static. It depends on the map, the perks, what the survivors and killer are good at, and what the survivors and killer have been doing. If the Plague has 0 fountains, sure, don't cleanse. If the Plague has 5 fountains, you run to that last one and shove your face in it posthaste. If it's Lery's, go ham on cleansing, she'll never hit you with Corrupt Purge anyway; if it's Shelter Woods or Rotten Fields, be wary. If she's got Infectious Fright and goes on the warpath with her first fountain, try not to cleanse and split the hell up. It's all about reading the situation.

Cleansing itself isn't a stupid thing to do; rather, you cleanse at stupid times or in stupid places. Cleansing and then saving a sick hooked or slugged survivor? Stupid. Touching an infected gen and running off to the nearest fountain to cleanse before you even get broken? Extremely stupid. Cleansing because everyone else did and she just activated Corrupt Purge? Smart. Cleansing in some useless fountain by the outer walls of the map so that you can mount a BT rescue on several hooked team members that she's guarding? Smart (if you wait for her Corrupt Purge to run out first.)

    I disagree.

She gets 60-90 seconds (90 with the right add-ons) of corrupt purge to down as many survivors as possible with the usage of that 1 free corrupt fountain. If she's REALLY good, and the survivors don't scatter, she will manage to down and hook at least 2 of them on average, but if she's just decent like most plague players are, she'll likely end up hooking only 1 player before the time runs out. If your team is horrible she'll down all 4 survivors, but there's still a good chance she won't be able to hook all 4 since most of the time someone brings in Unbreakable or Soul Guard while she has an active hex. Either way, as long as everyone refrains from the knee jerk reaction of cleansing en masse once she collects her 1 free fountain, she gets whatever downs she can manage, but is left for the rest of the game as an M1 killer.

Cleansing on the other hand, no matter how "inconvenient" you make it, Supplies her with multiple minutes of being the best ranged killer in the game. So ask yourself, Which would you prefer? 1 minute of ranged pain per match, or Multiple?

The "Don't Cleanse" strategy is still effective, you just have to be patient and wait out her corrupt purge, once that's over with, and as long as no one cleanses until the gates are powered, she becomes an extremely loop-able M1 killer for the remainder of the trial. Sure she can hear and see you better when you're infected, and can down you in 1 hit, but I feel it's better to deal with that for the remainder of the match, than continually gifting her the most powerful ranged attack in the game to use whenever she wants.

I love the balance of Plague. I don't know what the ######### to do! This is how it should be!

I used to never cleanse but then realised how BORING is to play that way. Giving her the corrupt purge and then juking her or pallet stuning her is so much more fun thne boring M1 chase with single health state.

Imo it was never a good strategy in the first place. You completely give up stealth and it's the equivalent of being exposed all match. I mopped the floor with so many teams trying to do that...

So yeah, trash talking for cleansing is stupid.

I usually see people cleansing at the end of the game, where there's no way she's gonna get to use all those fountains anyway.

Cleansing strategically is the key. And it's way more fun dodging (or attempting to dodge) Plague's power than running just an M1 Killer all game.

The best strategy against plague is just knowing when and where to cleanse. Cleansing too often and not enough are both a death sentence against a good plague.

I’ve been saying this since day dot. Most of my easy wins are against teams that won’t Cleanse. This includes when Plague didn’t have a free fountain.

I still do not cleanse against Plagues until end game when going for saves. If you don't cleanse she's just an M1 killer with 1 corrupted fountain (unless she has addons for more). If you're good at looping an M1 killer, you're fine.

Plague can easily make everyone infected again. So I often see people cleanse, get infected right away and cleanse again and again. This can just be from unhooking an infected survivor, repairing an infected gen etc.

I still recommend not cleansing. She gets her 1 red fountain, and can't get anymore if y'all just don't cleanse.

hard disagree, the fountain is a huge help for her but not cleansing prevents her from getting more and if survivor are spread out she cant make the most of it.

My policy is I don't cleanse unless somebody else does first. Or if the gens are all done, then I'll cleanse in a corner.

If everyone cleaned and uses up the fountains doesn't it just force her to get her purge and makes all the fountains useable again?

I've found its almost always better to cleanse often because of how easy it is to loop her in buildings and jungle gyms which robs her power. Hell even just running around tall obstacles prevent her from using it effectively.

literally 80% of the people that cleanse will then immediately do something that will get them infected, like save an infected survivor or touch an infected gen.

Im going to just remain sick and be on my gen because it literally will not change the other survivors inability to play effectively.
