Why the Grind needs to be looked at and idea, TLDR

First off, if you're reading this, thank you for taking your time to read this and give feedback (if you choose to leave some). For this post I won't be going over actual bloodpoint related things for the grind, that might be a different post.

The first thing I want to cover is a defense for the grind that I've seen a lot from people who have been playing since 2016. "I had to get all the perks at tier 3 back when the grind was insane so you can do it now." Uh, no. First let's look at how many perks were in the game when the game released verses the end of 2016 and then how many are in the game now. When the game released on June 14, 2016, there were 25 survivor perks and 20 killer perks (assuming my research is correct but it doesn't effect the number for the end of 2016). That's a total of 75 survivor perk tiers and 60 killer perk tiers. By the end of December 2016, there were a total of 35 survivor perks (105 perk tiers) and 30 killer perks (90 perk tiers). As of the release of the Resident Evil Chapter, there are a total of 95 survivor perks (285 perk tiers) and 84 killer perks (252 perk tiers). I'm not sure about you, but the fact that someone had to go through the grind with 75-105 or 60-90 perks (depending on the side) in 2016 does not defend the grind of 252-285 perks in mid 2021.

Now, seeing how there's 50 levels, you'd think that it could be worse. Which is true. You could be stuck only being able to get 1 perk per bloodweb. Except, for the first 39 levels of the bloodweb. You're only allowed to get 1 perk. You aren't even able to get more than 1 perk until Level 40 and if you're trying to unlock all the perks, 2 of those bloodwebs you're only allowed 1 perk, you get nothing for because you were unlocking a teachable perk. (Assuming you don't prestige since prestige is an option, I'm a completionist so I do prestige.) So across 39 levels, you only got 37 perks with a maximum of 38 since the entity will put the teachables in all your bloodwebs if you don't get it in the first bloodweb you can unlock it in.

This brings me for my first idea. Take teachables out of the bloodweb. Make a separate tab in the shop for teachables. In that separate tab, once you reach the correct level (Level 30, 35, 40) in your bloodweb, you have the ability to go on the page of the shop and spend the 5,000 bp to unlock the teachable. That way, it's not crowding your bloodweb if you don't want it there and makes room for another perk. The Shrine of Secrets will be unaffected because it's a random rotation and it doesn't matter what level you are in order to unlock perks from the Shrine.

My second idea is also fairly simple and it has to do with the amount of perks in the bloodweb. This idea only goes with the idea that the developers aren't willing to get rid of perk tiers. Assuming the developers aren't willing to get rid of perk tiers have the bloodweb spawn a set amount of perks for every 10 bloodwebs. Level 1-10 spawns 1 perk, Level 11-20 spawns 2 perks, Level 21-30 spawns 3 perks, Level 31-40 spawns 4 perks, Level 41-50 spawns 5 perks. With almost 300 perks in the game as survivor and pretty close to 290 as Killer, having the ability to get 3 perks in the bloodweb shouldn't be a bad solution if getting rid of perk tiers is out of the question.

Now on to my third idea, the idea everyone has had. Get. Rid. Of. Perk. Tiers. It's extremely outdated for the amount of perks in the game. As I stated before, with tiers there were 60 killer perks and 75 survivor perks on dbd's release day. Getting rid of perk tiers, there would still be more perks in the game then on release day and it would open up the possibilities for what you can do for perks. I would be very interested to see what sort of perks the developers could come up with if they were not restricted to needing some sort of restriction to perks because of this system of needing tiers in the game. You shouldn't HAVE to get a perk 3 times in order to decrease the amount of perks in rotation for the bloodweb to go down by 1. Especially with almost 100 survivor perks in the game and getting close to 90 killer perks. In 2 chapters we will have 102 survivor perks and 90 killer perks. That is way too many to have a tier system in dbd.

What do you guys think of these ideas? What are your own thoughts on decreasing the grind?

I will probably have another post about being able to prestige and incentives to prestige later, if I ever so feel like it.

My idea is similar to yours about taking perks out of the bloodweb, but a little different. Basically, replace specific perks in the bloodweb with "perk tokens" at 3 levels at the same frequency as current. You can then use a perk token to activate or upgrade any unlocked perk for that character. This way, you can essentially have any build you want right off the bat, but the grind & bragging rights are still there for people that want to unlock every perk on every P3 character.

Either way, it's high time for an update.

Both you and @dontpanic503 have great ideas! At this point anything to lessen the grind should be at the top of the devs qol updates.

I really like the token idea and being able to pick the perks you want instead of grinding and praying for rng not to do you dirty.

Also getting rid of tiers!!! That would be the big one ^^

My personal idea to help grind is:

    1. If tiers are to be kept... when you buy a character you get their perks at level 3 right away and you don't have to grind for them in the web.

    2. Kind of like your idea @ChurchofPig but instead of going to the shop for teachable perks they should just become automatic in other survivor's blood webs. I see from a story perspective where the devs were coming from by making a character 'teach' another character a perk but right now its too much grind. Idk why we should have to level a new character to 40... only have to go back to our fav characters and grind those perks out. Its exhausting and time consuming ;__; I just wanna play with the shinny new perks on my Claudette.

    3. If the Devs updated the Shrine to host 1 survivor and 1 killer each week I think that would help a lot. That way there are 6 perks each week. They could even put those character on sale and spotlight them to get people to buy them.

If they decide to keep perk tiers, it would be a nice incentive to prestige if each time you did some of the tiers were removed.

Non - prestige blooweb: same as now

P1 bloodweb: all free pool perks start at tier 2 + that character's teachable perks at tier 3

P2 bloodweb: same as P1 but freepool perks start at tier 3, other teachables start at tier 2

P3 bloodweb: all perks start at tier 3

This is a great idea! I would be more inclined to prestige with that :)

I prestiged once when I was new... never ever again until the grind is softened.
