Should I buy $ 100 ssd card for my PS4 or can you fix your games?
I recently saw that you could modify your PS4 card by an SSD which will boost the console, but it's unfair to have to pay $ 100 so that the problem comes from the games, what should I do? thank you

Are u in a situation where the problem can be solved by throwing money at it? Buy the SSD.
1 -
At this point buy the card, we really can't be sure when it's gonna be completely playable for console players again
6 -
Don´t bank on bhvr to invest into optimisation, they haven´t done anything to improve the poor performance on console in the past 3 years.

As much as I hate to say it, with PS5s still incredibly unavailable and scalpers rubbing their greedy little mittens together it might be best to invest in the SSD. We don't know when BHVR will fix optimisation issues, or if they're even capable of it at this point, so if you can comfortably spend the $100 I'd say get it.
Let me repeat that- only do so if you can comfortably spend this money. Do not sacrifice anything essential, such as food or any money used for transport, for this game.

Ok so i have to buy the ssd card?
1 -
*laughs in getting Civ 5 complete edition for under £10*

The SSD wont inprove your FPS, it only boosts your loading times which doesnt even matter in DbD.
I also used one the whole time i played on PS4.
4 -
Nah. Go spend that money on something better than dbd.
2 -
Ok thank you very much so I won't buy it
0 -
Depending on other games you play it might still be worth it.
But only for Dead by Daylight its not worth it.
2 -
It's coming to a point where you're buying extra equipment to play a game when you already pay for a service (PSN), a system you already have (PS4) and a game you already own (DBD).
4 -
I wouldnt recommend it. While most people on Ps5 are not having issues, there have been some reported issues on them as well. The way DBD is going the issues seem to just be getting worse with each patch/over time so it probably wont change much and will only serve as a brief bandaid fix if it does.
Honestly put that 100 dollars towards other games or saving up to upgrade your entire set-up with a Ps5 or PC. Either one of these is probably a better long-term investment.

I currently have a ssd in my ps4, and I have not seen any of the lagging/optimization problems I read about constantly. My son doesn't have one and we play a lot together, sometimes I'll be loading in as killer and still see survivors 4-5 seconds into a match not moving (due to lethal pursuer). So, personally, I think it's great
0 -
I would not do that specially with the ps5 out its better for you to save your money and buy a new console. I expect that one day the ps4 version will become just like the swich version and that version is bad enough to be a meme
1 -
Can you upload one of your games on youtube? Preferably with nemesis but any other killer is fine. Playing as survivor too would be nice so we can see both sides.
If you don't know about ps recording I can explain how to do it. It is easy.
2 -
If you're spending it specifically in hopes to play this game better, then the answer is no, don't spend it. You're just wasting your money because there is no guearantee that the new SSD will do anything to improve your experience, especially with how bad the programming is for this game. I'd rather you save the money and put it towards a newer console once you can get one.
3 -
If it's only for DBD, of course it's not worth it. I'd rather buy an actually optimized game if it ever came to that.
5 -
$100 just to play DBD? No way. Put that money aside and save up for when you finally upgrade to a ps5.
3 -
I'm more curious as to why everyones calling it an SSD Card.
0 -
I went out today and bought a Samsung T5 SSD at Best Buy. I moved DbD and two Warhammer games onto it. DbD is running soooo much smoother now. I haven't tested the Warhammer games, yet, I'll find out if those see any improvement later.
Am I happy about having to buy the SSD? No. But the game isn't stuttering and dropping frames for every little thing like it was before, so that's good. The devs still need to optimize their damn game, though. Their fog effects turn the fan into a jet engine (especially on the menu screens, which is just ridiculous, they're menu screens), the performance could still be improved, and the map flashes white constantly.
0 -
Can you show a comparison?
I might be buying a SSD aswell but i'm not sure yet
0 -
invest in PC because I don't even have a top tier PC but it runs fine

The game plays perfect on ps5, but I did notice once re was released, the cursor lag in lobbies and the bloodweb that I had always on ps4 is now on the ps5. In game its perfect, but I am kind of worried that they might be spaghetti coding even current gen consoles performance in to the toilet at some point.
1 -
The game works in a way that only allowes you to move when everyone is able do move. (Unless its bugged of course)
I also used a ssd in my PS4 and while i also didnt had much problems, there wasnt any difference without ssd either.
Some people are just a bit lucky with that i guess.
However, normally ssds should NOT fix fps problems since its mostly to load everything faster, which then again doesnt matter for DBD since everyone is supposed to load in at once.
2 -
@eloise I just noticed, thanks to @TragicSolitude that a SSD might REALLY help, even if its normally only for loading times.
The reason for it is the theory why the game is so laggy.
If you load into a game, it ALWAYS loads every killer assets and powers etc in the game, even if you dont use them.
Same goes for every survivor, voices etc.
Since the SSD massively shortens loading times, this might really could help fixing FPS problems since it doesnt need ages to load and find this stuff every time again.
@MandyTalk Do you think you could ask the devs about that?
1 -
absolutely not, don't invest anything for this game,if devs don't do it, why we should?
It is pretty clear at this point that they have no idea how to fix it and probably dbd will never be fixed for older consoles, they removed any statement about this fix and, most of all, they are avoiding to talk about it.
2 -
SSD is good regardless of whether you play DBD or not. If you don't have an SSD for your system, I'd recommend getting one.
0 -
Perhaps this game has surpassed what last-gen consoles are capable of handling? I feel bad for players who recently bought the PS4 version just to see it play this badly.
1 -
And why would they? Nobody challenges them to be better. A couple forum posts a day are ignorable. Most people shell out for skins and new chapters and tomes like crazy regardless of how buggy or poor the game's health is. The subreddit for this game is a big fat meme, and these forums are just as hive-mindish. Most people here think the game is totally fine and pretty close to perfect.

I can do two of those tonight then I'll put the link in

Thank you. Much appreciated.

@eloise @OniWantsYourMacaroni Here's a link to some before and after videos I posted: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/discussion/comment/2335065/#Comment_2335065

Very interesting,thank you
I'm really considering buying a SSD but i need to know how DbD performs with an SSD on base PS4 because unlike the Pro version, base PS4 only has USB 2.0
0 -
Ah, yes, definitely find out for sure first. Looking up info before my own purchase, I did see people say that a USB 2.0 negates any improvements in speed, unfortunately, but I have no proof one way or the other.
0 -
Oh it's true? Because the SSD card portable I'm interesting
0 -
Should you buy the SSD for DBD? No.
Will they optimize and fix the game? Also no.
1 -
Some people really like the game and can't give it up. Some are unable to get the new consoles or pc's (also no pc cross-progression) so that is their only option now.
And yeah there is a high probability that it won't be fixed. I would be surprised if they improve it at this point.
2 -
Here's my survivor one, not my best match, but I was mostly messing around, edit: this isn't a ps4 pro
1 -
Didn't see a chase or you getting hit (maybe you did later) but still it is smooth like in TS's videos and it is not even a pro.
We can conclude that it definitely helps now even if it is a base ps4.
Thanks for posting.

Here's my second survivor one, best flashbang use int eh basement ever for me. Basement FB starts at 5:45 Pretty sure I saved so much of mah fellow survs bacon.

Wait a sec, are you sure the base PS4 has a USB 2.0? This article says it has USB 3.0:
https://www.ps4storage.com/ps4-usb-ports/
This article tests internal and external SSDs on both the PS4 and PS4 Pro, and it found a speed improvement on both systems.
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2017-ps4-external-storage-tested_0
(I'm not saying you should go out and get an SSD. Don't think I'm trying to push you into a purchase, I'm not.)
The external SSD definitely improved performance on my PS4 Pro. See the above articles I linked for more information about the base PS4 and SSD drives.
I always recommend doing your own research before making a purchase, especially one this big. I'm sharing my own experience for anyone interested, because I know some of us are getting desperate, but I'm not a technical expert. Those links I posted are the only information about SSDs that I have.
1 -
SSD won't help. I used to play on Xbox One with captures disabled with a SSD. Doesn't change much at all. At this rate you will have to upgrade to the next generation like I did. If you can manage to get your hands on a PS5.
1 -
Will be posting a third vid as nemesis and a few hours
0 -
Just sell your current ps4 and buy a ps5.
0 -
Console players can't into PC parts.

Thank you so much for the links think I'm just going to hold out for a ps5 lmao or hope over Xmas some sales I can pick up what I need the information you provided is a big help!
I'm probably going need to invest in one anyway.
