Zombies discussion (opinions)

I wanted to make this post only to see the community's take on the zombies. Clearly, I am talking about The Nemesis and his power. I, personally, think it's unbalanced and unfair as zombies are based on probability and luck. The game doesn't guarantee you that zombies will help you down a survivor, nor that they will block an entrance like we have with The twins, where you can block a doorway with Victor. Zombies are not in the killer's power to make a difference. They are just random, they might block you from repairing a generator, they might block the door frame, they might get you killed because you don't have any other way to run (and dead hard is not a counter argument, I dont even think you can dead heard through zombies). I would like if Behaviour does some little rework somehow. Maybe I am wrong in some places, probably I don't have some other knowledge, but this is not a post to judge others, it's just a place for those who want to talk about this subject and share what they know about it.

I think they are a fun game mechanic. It’s definitely hilarious when zombies come and end a loop for you. Dropping DS into a zombie is also hilarious. I’ve had one jump off a ledge and bodyblock me to extend a chase before which was annoying but also pretty funny.

I find the zombies are very effective. Not at downs or hits, that's generally a lucky bonus unless you get a tight indoor map or they wander into doorways or pallets of areas you're chasing in. Getting any value on that end is a fun surprise or a "smh, what are these survivors doing", not a given. What they provide Nemesis is free tracking. You can see whether a zombie is idly wandering, whether it's found a survivor, or whether a survivor has stunned it, and know where or where not to go. Zombie meandering away from a gen? Nobody's currently there, don't check it. Arms up? There's someone running away in the direction it's facing, and if you're close enough, you'll find a scratch mark trail to chase. Stunned in place? Survivors were there recently. If it's in a hallway, they're probably gone; if it's by a generator, check it immediately. They're wandering status checks on the vicinity, and I think that's why adding more zombies would be too oppressive on survivors.

They're also decent at slowing down gen progress or unhook heals because they're drawn to those areas and then bother the survivors and force them to keep relocating as they work on the action. It doesn't hurt to kill a zombie that's in a dead area of the map (if it's not a detour to reach it), so that a new one has a chance to spawn somewhere where it'll apply pressure.

I'm a big fan of the zombies overall. I think they need to lose collision when they hit a survivor, because currently their bodyblocking is unparalleled, and their AI could be improved (as they get caught in place a lot.) But they're really fun to play with and against, and they add something to most Nemesis games I play. Half the time, they're what finds me my first survivor.

I'd love a way to get three or four zombies myself. I think they're incredibly entertaining, and are often excellent information about survivor locations.

They are annoying and I guess, the longer Nemesis is in the game, the more people will share this opinion. Most of the time they are not meaningful, but it is not cool to go down just because of RNG.

And it also does not feel rewarding as Nemesis if the Survivor just goes down, because you were lucky and a Zombie just appeared around the Corner.

However, their AI should be improved a bit, at least to the point that they cannot get stuck on basically everything. Also, they should not be too near to a Hook, a facecamping Zombie should not exist.

the zombies are not very strong nor have an unnerving presence.

but in scenarios they will prove their worth. just like any perk.

one of the obvious things is, if the survs play in an area with zombies, then they will have more of an impact and potentially get the survivor.

it's small value, but value nonetheless

Zombies can be totally useless or they camp gens with ruin active. It's totally random but very funny.

I remember one game at EGC where my teammates unhook me with BT and Nemesis and a Zombie coming to me blocking my way to the exit gate. Zombie bites me removing the BT and instantly Nemesis knock me out with a punch. What a combo, man! Killer should had enjoyed it so much...

    I like em.

My only complaint with them is when they are around corners and completely silent - if you turn that corner you will almost always get hit and have little time to react. To fix this, I'd probably make them easier to hear from a distance or something.

It's a nice mechanic that gives map pressure to the killer. Ruin on Nemesis, for example, is absolutely crazy.

I think that's the same audio occlusion that makes footsteps impossible to hear and rocks turn into the best sound muffling equipment ever.

I find the zombies useful and fun when playing as killer because of their white aura, but a zombie actually saved me last night. I was looping the Rancid Abbatoir cow gate place thing and a zombie had blocked the way from where the gen is to the long hallway with the hanging cows right? (Of course I didn't realize the zombie was blocking the path until it infected me because I was on autopilot)

The Nemesis had saw what I was trying to do and wasn't following behind me and didn't realize I had gotten hit so he was curving around the building to cut me off but the zombie forced me to go the other way. Didn't see that Nemesis again for like, 4 minutes. Thanks zombie.

Their AI needs to be upgraded big time. It’s so easy for them to get stuck on things and sometimes they’ll completely ignore a Survivor that’s within their LoS.

As a Survivor main I am indifferent to zombies in their current state. I think that as time passes they will be reworked a few times and will end up in the sweet spot of being useful but not overly oppressive.

    Pros

    • Can be a huge pain in the ass when they are guarding that last 80% finished gen and create funny moments of one person having to take them around a wall and rush back.
    • Are a fresh and new mechanic.
    • Can force the Survivor to have to think about a chase more if they know a zombie is in an area.

    Cons

    • Can facecamp a hook.
    • Can facecamp basement.
    • Have a chance to be completely irrelevant on larger maps. I've played an entire match on Red Forest and Auto Haven without having ever seen the zombies based purely on RNG of their spawn or whatever they ended up stuck on.

Im fine with the zombies being inconsistent however their AI could use some adjustments.

    1. They should not get stuck on objects that easily.

2.Their audio should not just cut off around corners. Too many times I've ran into one making no noise.

    3. They should not be able to enter the basement no matter what.

    4. They should not be able to approach a hooked survivor. (Especially when the Nemesis tries to trap them right next to the hook making saving nearly impossible)

come on you cant blame the zombies when its the survivors fault their over there.

    Totally agree

l literally did a full gen while a zombie dry humped a rock right next to me.

Pretty simple change, there will be 4 Zombies, each one being unique to a survivor. The survivors will only be able to interact with the zombie belonging to them. Zombies will hunt the survivor it's linked to until they are either dying or hooked. Nemesis cannot see the auras of his zombies, but he can still interact with them. Zombies have no collision for both the survivor and killer.

Zombies will be able to track its survivor map-wide if they are injured. Otherwise, they will always try to remain within 48 meters to you, then searching for you within that area.

    Done deal, no more frustrations.

I feel like the biggest issue is that to feel like you're getting them to do anything you have to be using detection and speed addons for them. I also feel like the argument about RNG is a little absurd given the game we're talking about. The ridiculous lack of consistency is what has kept most from considering this a competitive game long before goofy ai zombies showed up.

They literally ignore survivors running within hit distance to them, get stuck on objects, and cripple themselves falling down. Like???

    They are REALLY bad.
