Not that I want to speak for a mod but no it is not bannable. The game gives you the ability to customize your resolution so of course it would be fine.

No. There are even fog whisperers who use it.

Yep there are Fog Whispers with it, which gives an indirect approval that BHVR sees it as fine and not bannable

In regards to it being "cheating" and subsequently bannable: it gives an advantage in some instances, not all (i.e. not all let alone most maps; the jungle gym walls and so on are too tall generally and you can simply look upward to get a view of the killer in junk tiles in more open spaces), it's as much as cheating as uncapping your FPS, which is what a lot of pc players do which gives much more of an advantage in terms of performance.

The game was designed to be played at 60 fps maximum and it was locked that way across all platforms

And if anything, uncapping fps is the cheat since you have to edit game files to do it. Stretched res doesn't involve editing game files

I would not blame people using stretched after the disaster of optimization of this chapter.

However, I do when is resolution like 1x1080 and it's not about optimization or making the game more fancy

you mean 1:1? It doesn't make the game look fancy. Somewhat makes it look worse

Although I will say a vast majority of people who judge stretched res and haven't tried it personally get a misconception based off of seeing it on vids/stream. It looks significantly worse there, but not much different from native in terms of quality in person

I saw ps5 players saying that it feels like playing on pc with 120fps, which is the maximum you can uncap on PC

Well I used stretched res myself but never went more than 1400x1080

It definitely looks worse but that's not the point @Angelicus23 is making, the game runs much better with stretched res because it's a lower res than most people are running the game at normally.

It is not detectable afaik, so the devs indirectly approved of it because they are helpless against it. (Probably the same reason why camping and tunneling rather get approval than some form balancing treatment.)

It can be used as a crutch for looking over loops and stuff but hey they have to endure this ugly fisheyes view depending on the amount of stretching.

You can see stealth killers approaching from further away when you woud normally be blind to it because the gen is against a rock etc.

Stretched also makes windows and gaps wider allowing you to see what is happening on the other side easier like the gaps in shack walls or windows on LT walls.

That would mean the game banned people for having the "wrong" desktop resolution, which is something I highly doubt any developer of a game on PC would want to do.

The best thing would obviously be if the way the game handled non-standard aspect ratios was changed in some way to give no possible advantages no matter how small or big.

If that fails and they still wanted to stop it, the "harshest" approach I can possibly imagine is something similar to how PUBG at one point quite simply refused to launch if it detected ReShade. So the game telling the player to change their resolution. And even that would most likely only trigger on truly bizarre resolutions like 1:1 aspect ratio ones (like 1080x1080) or ones close to it.

The fact that you had to ask this....prooves...yeah....

We know whats going on and that it gives a pretty significant advantage that would make you question if you're cheating or not.

That being said....devs can't do ######### about it so.....its technically fine. Along with Brightness filters so you can see people in the dark that you may have otherwise passed up.

From what I know(and I could be wrong or this is possibly outdated):

Its against the rules but the developers have no way of enforcing it because hardware can cause it.

Much like how crosshairs are technically against the rules but the developers have no way of enforcing it when people can literally tape a crosshair to their screen to get it.
