Subtle Hacking

Had anyone else experienced this kind of thing before? Someone who's not flying around as Clown machinegun throwing hatchets, but is still getting some kind of advantage?

Take last night. Up against a Ghostface on Azarov's, I get into a couple chases with him-- and it just feels wrong. I've played this game for a hot minute, and I know what 115% feels like. He was just catching up too fast. He moves in weird ways where he slows down a little then just speeds right up, sometimes doubling his crouching speed.

Postgame, my teammates tell me he had very high ping, but high ping shouldn't just straight up make you faster running in a straight line, should it?

And that besides, I had a match earlier last month against a Michael who was absolutely speedhacking. No speed buffing perks postgame, no TR affecting perks-- unhook a teammate in Hawkins when Michael's tier 3, and within 4 seconds of hearing his Terror Radius, he's back at the hook and downed me. Chased me up the stairs on my final hook, and he closed the distance like nothing.

It's not always flying Ghostfaces with hatchets.

Those are the hardest ones to crack. If hacker doesn't make it obvious, it's near impossible to differentiate between a hacker and DBD just beiing riddled with bugs and exploits.

Honestly, whenever I feel like something is wrong (which is still quite rare, luckily) I make ingame report just to be sure. If it's obvious, I tend to record them and make additional ticket so it has better shot at taking them down.

The worst I've seen so far was a hacker who hacked obviously and disabled aftergame report options (it was just lines of slurs without any buttom options to report him with) which I hope I won't see againt. The suble ones even when annoying, tend to infuriate me less as if it's nothing huge I might just not notice so I can't get mad over it.

Altough it would be nice if there was some feedback loop to know if actions were taken once they get banned (if ever). I know we can't ger rid of hackers completely but at least some sence of justice beiing served would be welcomed.

It's way more common than you'd expect. There are websites and forums dedicated to helping people do it.

It's always little things too, like the killer knowing exactly which locker to go to, a swing going straight through a survivor with no damage, an insta-heal, increased movement speed, etc. Everytime I've noticed something weird, without fail that player has the globe symbol next to their name so I assume they had to have been on PC.

I faced a Steve a couple days ago that had infinite sprint. I promptly recorded the video and reported the cheater with video evidence. This is all we can do, and there is no way to verify that BHVR do anything with it.

A pattern I've noticed with survivor cheaters - they will almost always have self care and breakout in their build. I believe that they use these two perks to have access to fast self-healing and slightly faster than normal movement speed. I saw a game where two people were healing each other extremely quickly and there was no perk or item that would've let them do so.

They both had the exact same build too

its not as bad as it used to be before dedicated servers at least with hacks. it still happens unfortunately

    most likely.

but i havent really noticed it / had no proof for it.

subtle survivor hacking can go from being like 2% faster in chases, to getting an early warning when the Killer is comming towards you, to a small repair speed buff.

none of those are anything i could prove easily.

There´s also other stuff going around. I´m collecting Killer crowns (got all survs yaaay) and I had a match where surivors would just run through trapper traps.

I had one last week where a David ran to a window, made the loud noise but didn't actually go through. I stopped and stared at him crouching against the window *and he did it again in front of me, this time*. I immediately went after him, downed him and facecamped him. I wasn't playing with that. I've started playing a lot less killer because it's unfun af to go against people who are hacking, esp speed hacking.

I've definitely had my suspicions but since it's almost not provable unless I record all of my matches, which I don't, I can never tell for sure. I definitely think it happens more than I think tho.

the funny thing, is wallhackers are the ones that are least likely to be punished due to many factors that can affect the flow of a game, they are more likely to get punished because a salty opponent reported them.

It would be a bit easier to notice if this game wasn't buggier than an entomologist's lab

Had a lot of killers do this, and they pretend that they were just ''searching the area''

I even ran Distortion and a token was used, but a Spirit phased right into my location where they were no gens, in a dead zone, and in the corner of the map after hooking someone claiming BBQ

It's definitely a thing. Problematic enough that we often have to record display captures of our matches in competitive play. That being said, ping does absolutely wild things to this game. The net code....isn't good. I know when I play against survivors from eastern EU (I'm NA East) that I'm not going to win any 50/50s. Just how it is.

This has always been a fear of mine. I’ve seen blatant hacks before, and always wondered about those who weren’t so obvious about it. A few months back I ran into a streamer using Plague, who seemed a little too fast. She was downing everyone quickly. You couldn’t even loop her once. It felt like she had max bloodlust all the time. I saw at the tally screen she did not have any add-ons and no speed perks, so I decided to watch their stream. Sure enough next game his character was moving quickly in first person & I was thinking to myself, “What the hell?” How is no one in chat calling this guy out on this? I don’t play Plague, so I went to some Youtube videos to see Plague gameplay, and sure enough she was not moving as quickly as the streamer. Oh, and in his new match he was snowballing as from start as well. Very sus. Ofc he denied it when I called him out on it and his chat was ready to put my head on a pike, but he told them to chill. I quickly got out of there and chalked this up to another nuance we have to deal with when playing DBD. It’s unfortunate.

Considering he did it again... that was most likely a bug

    Yamoaka's or Autohaven I assume?

This does not mean hacking. I have been playing this game for five years as a Killer main and sometimes Survivors get found due to factors they themselves can't see and aren't aware of, such as crows flying away, past behavior by the Survivors, likely places they'll go based on gen locations/proximity to the basement or a hook, seeing a teammate somewhere else and knowing that if they are there and you weren't seen running then the places you could be narrow. And sometimes it's just sheer intuition or the Killer hearing the most minute movement or breathing sound.

Basically, there's a million ways a skilled Killer divines your location without any extra help needed. Not every Killer that can track without perks and hacks is cheating. Some of us are just good.

Yes, a lot. These are the hackers that I normally go against, and I definitely go against more than I can say for sure.

Didn’t have to ruin the game for everyone else, should’ve just recorded what he did and reported him.

Ran into a duo who both had subtle hacks. They would turn on speed hacks when out of line of sight and had access to perks that do not go together (had one dead hard after using sprint burst with only sprint burst in their build).

Also, they seemed to be lag switching as I would get a giant lag spike anytime I approached them, or when they tried to do something sketchy. Made it difficult to tell until I clearly saw the dead hard.

I play killer too, the Spirit phased EXACTLY to my location, which was a dead zone with no gens, and I mean no gens even near it.

I thought she was hacking so I stood still and she phased right into my spot. you never phase into the side of a hill in the corner of the map when there are gens to be protected, even if BBQ didn't reveal any survivors.

That's what I've been thinking too. It feels like some Killers and Survivors are moving faster than their base speed without any perks or add-ons to boost it. I've noticed Survivors are spinning faster since the event started but I can't tell if it's an actual hack, lag, or if they're on PC or using one of those third-party controllers. It's really throwing me off because they've never spun as fast as they are now. Last night I had a Yui who was able to spin faster than normal and was teleporting short distances but I saw the lag symbol appear so I have no clue what was happening. I would like to report them but I don't think BHVR wants to be swamped with reports like that, especially if they turn out to just be lag.

It felt far too deliberate for it to be a bug. He stopped and watched me, crouched, and did it again. It was on The Game.

The other 3 escaped because I felt bad they had a hacker. Not sure how I ruined it for the rest.

To be fair, when I encounter bugs like that (IE when I found a rock I could climb on top of on Shelter Woods), I kinda just stop what i'm doing in surprise and show it off to the killer.

In my case, the Pig joined us on the rock and it was a crouch party.

Vaults like that have been a reoccurring bug, reason why I asked if it was Yamaoka's or Autohaven is because they have a history of having bugged vaults, exactly like the ones you've mentioned.

Some people who have poor performance/connection as well can some times experience a freeze right as they vault, to others it looks like they vaulted and stayed on the same side.

I highly doubt that if this guy was cheating, he did it for 2 little vaults and nothing else.

Luckily it's been a while for me, but not long after crossplay came out I was facing pig after pig with speed hacks (they always wore the outfit with the black leather jacket). I could never loop them for any length of time and confirmed there were no speed boost perks. Whatever software they were using must have been caught though, given that after a short period of time, it suddenly stopped and I've never seen it happen since.

I'm sorry to everyone this happens to. I cannot think of anything more childish than grown adults paying money to be able to cheat at video games....

  • I’m experiencing hacking on a pretty regular basis and whenever I have a ttv guy on my team and the killer is ttv guy as well they have been totally disregarding the one on my team but that’s a far more rare occurrence. Just done witch cheating in any game in general so frustrating.

Like @SomberNokk stated, I think it occurs much more frequently than anyone realizes but sometimes you just know when something is wrong in the match. Sometimes it's so small, you'll question if it's hacking or just... Speed. Sometimes though, it's blatantly obviously no matter how subtle they think they are.

I had a 4 man hacking squad the other night subtly hacking. I mentioned it in another post but basically, they did all the gens in 2 minutes and 50 seconds. Maybe less, I'm not sure but that's according to my time stamp. Not just slightly faster gen speed but there was seemingly a flip flop hack going on too. Couldn't get one to a hook before they got out of my grasp. Keep in mind, the wiggle timer is what, 16 seconds? This took about 6 seconds for them to wiggle out. But rewind a little. When I noticed the gens were all basically done before I could even locate my first victim, when I did finally get someone, I admittedly face camped. And it was the most big brain decision I've ever made. They all threw the match for the one on the hook, I got my 4k. Either by hooks or bleeding out. I couldn't and didn't trust the others didn't have the flip flop hack so they bled out.

Only hack that I know a lot of people get away with that can't be proved is when people get max items on everything. That's what I'd consider is subtle hacking.

I just played a game as trapper a d had a trap moving around with trapped survivor in it. Odd.
