As a Survivor do you ever take it easy on the Killer?
I am not a very good killer ^^" By that I mean I am not very good at playing them, but that doesn't stop me! I am just here to have fun and enjoy playing both sides.
The tldr; learning Nemmy - got stomped by swf - not being toxic and clearly learning - title question.
Anyways I am learning to play Nemesis so I guess you can say I'm extra bad right now hahaha. I got into a match which I assume was a swf and 3 gens were done before I got my first down. No worries its just practice.
I go to hook that survivor and 2 other survivors come and body block the hook from me. By the time I got to the hook and punched them each once the other survivor wiggled free. Clicky clicky but dance ensued. Oof. Felt bad.
I wasn't being toxic, I even brought cake, and it must have been clear that I wasn't very good :P So why the body block? Worst case I would have gotten 1 more survivor hooked. It was clear they were the winners. Plus, don't we all get more bloodpoints for hooking and unhooking?
Anyways, I see a lot of 'killers suck and play toxic' threads and wanted to share my match experience. When I play my stronger Killers I adjust my play depending on the survivors. If there is a DC then I play extra soft so the match can go on but its not a steam roll. You get my point ^^
So my question is, as a Survivor do you ever dial back your play style if you notice a Killer is new/ learning? Or do you feel you always gotta be kicking but and going full throttle since there are a lot of toxic killers out there?
(I am not saying body blocking is bad btw, it has a time and place, but after that experience the match was done for me. The 4th gen popped and they made it clear hooking wasn't going to happen so I went to admire the zombies (which are totally wonky btw ^^"))
Thanks for reading!

I usually go around opening chests or breaking totems if I feel the killer is kinda new and try to get a chase to see his actual experience.

This has been a common problem with dead by daylight. Not only is matchmaking a problem in and of itself, but as a new player or just someone learning the ins and outs of a new killer, trying to practice in online sweaty matches does not make for a good learning tool. Which is why I'm ecstatic that they are finally adding in offline bot matches with the mid-chapter update. You'll be able to practice everything that you can in a normal online match.
A lot of people, including myself, don't have access to a plethora of friends that play this game so that we can get a custom game going to help us practice. There are killers I've never touched that I would love to try, but at the rank that I'm at, I'm going to get nothing but try hard sweaty matches, which is why I cannot wait for the offline bot matches.
5 -
Well, I never play toxic and do not go full tryhard unless I absolutely have to, but if the killer has a clear lack of experience then I usually go for Totems and Chests to give them more time.
And I might even give them the kill in the end, but only if they are playing Freddy.
6 -
That is happy news ^^ I didn't realize we were getting bot matches.
It will be nice to play with bots and practice my weaker killers (Nemmy, Huntress, Slinger, Trickster and Michael). I always prefer playing with real people but with matches like that it just makes me feel bad for even trying a new killer ;_;
4 -
Eh new killers & killers that play badly i go easy on them, But if the killer is getting kills It's looping time
2 -
Yeah they announced this in the developer update. Along with updated tutorials, there will also be offline bot matches.
I also agree that the only way you're going to get better at the game is to play against real people, but if you're just starting out or learning the mechanics of a new killer, obviously I want to know that I can take my time doing so knowing that I'm not going up against a team of highly skilled survivors that are going to have every generator done in less than 5 minutes.
1 -
Thats the spirit! Not asking for an ez game, but I didn't have a single hook and apparently it was body blocking time ^^" Save body blocking for 2nd or final hooks.
1 -
I'm not really good enough at the game to take it easy on a killer but I don't taunt them or abuse them. I ran a nurse pretty good today before matchmaking went to ######### and I didn't teabag or anything.
1 -
Running a killer or looping well is just normal game play tho. That is awesome you are good sport :D i have only played Nurse like 5 times... she is a very good killer but damn she is hard!!!
0 -
Yep, if the Killer has less than two sacrifices throughout the match AND I don't have challenge/daily that requires me to escape, I'll willing give them them a sacrifice. If it's been a good match and it's 2 to 2? I probably still will as long as the above challenge/daily isn't in effect. Even better if I'm the last and the Killer wants to spend ECG playing around with powers and looping.
As for why the body block. That's tougher to answer. You might be facing ppl who just don't care about your skill or how you do in the match. They're focused on their team. They could just be jerks. They could just not trust that you're as inexperienced as you seem. There have been plenty of Killers that have used the 'I'm new' or ' I want to farm' trick for Survs to be leery. I never offer up a sacrifice until ECG for that very reason.
2 -
Sometimes i play on my alt against baby killers, if they had a particularly rough game ill let them kill me at the end

I will spend extra time opening chests and cleansing totems if they're clearly struggling.
2 -
I like to think I strike a happy medium with Killers. I don't really take it easy on them, I play to my objectives in all matches, but I also don't go out of my way to be a tool to the Killer.
1 -
I never take it easy on them as that would get in the way of my fun... Until end game. I don't mind being a consolation sacrifice for them. I am never toxic though. The golden rule, treat people the way you want to be treated and all that jazz.
3 -
i too am new at killer i mostly play survivor mode but through my experiences both play is difficult as a survivor to configure a way to escape the killer and then not given any opportunity to have fun and enjoy the game they go all out on a strike and be hardcore a**hles.
in my sessions upon trying killer mode i have had a lot of players giving me the loopy loo run around chase that really gets my anxiety way up in there and i have the urge to throw the game controllers at my television if i am on console or my laptop if i am on steam and i just don't understand why do players give us newbies such a hardtime and make us feel horrible in playing the game.
I want to enjoy and have fun with dead by daylight but for the last few months since i started DBD my gameplay was always bad matches i'm always losing progress going back and forth and nothing earned.
2 -
Yes. If killer is being hardly outplayed, and he is not trying camping / tunneling , i start play worse and take more risks. Totems and chests also.
1 -
Killer main here
You should always expect that everyone is going to play their best, even if winning by a lot, especially against a killer. Killers are more likely to do nice things when winning because there is a lot less chance of survivors coming back once some of them are dead. But a killer could be either running end game perks like NOED and blood warden or they could get a slug streak snowball to victory at any time if they get lucky.
That being said, it does happen. I was playing like my 5th spirit game ever, so i wasn't good, THEN my headset died. Once that happened i struggled to get a hit, much less a hook. At the end, 3 survs left but one came back and waived me over to the hook so I could get a kill. Very kind lass

I used to take it easy but then the developers decided that I deserve to lose my add-ons every match even if I don't touch my item. I'm not willing to throw add-ons away so I still sabo, slam gens and speedy heal even when matchmaking gives me a rank 13 with 1 perk and sends us to Fractured Cowshed.
If the matchmaking is toxic why should I bend over backwards to nerf myself?
*If I didn't bring an item I'm happy to do bones and chests to slow things down.
1 -
Me and my buds always go easy on them. I don't go easy in chase, because I believe that if you do, then they won't learn- but we already don't just sit on gens all game and do a lot of side objectives, so we'll normally just mess around a lot more. Again though, I won't go easy in chase.
1 -
I've actually given killers hooks who have had an awful match. I will go find them and motion them to follow me to a hook and let them hook me. I know how it feels to have a rough match, especially when you played nice.
2 -
Not intentionally. I'm not going to throw a chase or anything, and I'm not gonna let up on gens.
1 -
If i am the killer i will not be a happy camper to see players in my match that triggers my anxiety to the top in giving me an absolute hard time by doing their looping and chasing to where they go into the hiding zone and i am unable to find anyone and gets the easy way out and i lose the match due to their actions in the game.

In general the Short answer:no
Long answer: A lot survivors are sore winners so they try to harass/insult killers who are doing poorly. While most others won't give an inch and let the killer snowball a win.
So...Idk what you expected from this discussion.
1 -
Sometimes. If it's, say, a Spirit then not at all, but if it's a Billy then there's a much higher chance. I'll end up not doing gens and following the chase around in the background to just watch. Sometimes if the killer gives up I'll walk over to them and try and get them to hook me, or if they lose the survivor I'll jump in and "take chase" by messing up a few times and going down.
If they've got no hooks by endgame and they're not being a dick about it I'll let myself die to endgame for them. Everyone deserves kindness.
Except Spirit players.

During the event here's how me and my swf does things:
- Me: I start by finding a mate to double gen with (Want my gen points)
- I then run around looking for the killer to get into chase with or get totems.
- If the killer has 2 or less hooks when 2 gens are left then I'll run around looking to farm WGLF stacks by taking body blocks for teammates. Basically draw the game out a bit.
0 -
I’ll farm with them if they’ve had a bad game, that’s about it
0 -
yess, ill try n do totems or chests if the killer seems new. i feel bad in general bringing keys and maps for challenges even if the killer is skilled.
0 -
Body blocking injured survivors shortens the game and is exceptionally tilting for the killer and detrimental to their points. You are actually bming that killer because you have zero respect at all and will throw yourself at them without caring.
1 -
Idk how having 2 people in chase, 1 of which then goes off to heal before getting back on a gen, makes the game shorter than 1 person in chase and 3 people slamming gens constantly but
0 -
No, because every once in a blue I’ll run into that killer who wants to meme that he is chill or bad at the game, then ends up having NOED after the gens are done. Then he opens the exit gate and tries to get a late Bloodwarden by camping the downed survivor. I don’t trust any killer that seems that bad at the game, for me to take it easy on him.
1 -
No I play around rank 11-13 and the killer usually is half decent and beats me and/or the team im playing solo on. I won't taunt or be a dick unless they were face camping people out.
0 -
Nobody gets hooked and the loop path gets reset. we are talking decent survivors here.. not people that deadhard into a wall.
Also.. heal? lol most survivors are carrying stacked medkits that heal in 6 or 8 seconds. That or they just bang out the gen injured.
3 -
It depends on the killer, but if i have the time (aka the killer isnt just tunneling and camping) i usual hunt down all totems, open chests, and work a little on gens.
In a chase, i usually dont loop too much in one tile, and try to juke the killer (i like that better when i play killer than just running in circles around obstacles). I seldom bodyblock (unless he is tunneling or in a chase with someone on death hook, but then i try to switch places, not just annoy the killer), and i see no value in running around with a flashlight (but i will do pallet saves if i can).
I think this is taking it easy, but for some, even that might be toxic. Oh, and i NEVER teabagg, because i belive thats just an insult.
2 -
So that killer would rather me be on gens? Rather me do the objective and get an early escape than deliberately prolong the game by constantly giving him free injures on me and probably a free down.
I love how you call it "bming that killer" and "you have zero respect" lol all I've been doing during this event is deliberately healing, forcing chase and giving free hits so I can get stacks and lots of points before the game ends. I literally am exactly what a killer wants since I don't care about doing gens, I only want points. This is all while my lag is making it impossible to loop right now, so they get quite an easy down lol
I really hope you don't face my swf after the event ends then lol when we aren't just giving free downs for stacks + unhook points.

From my own personal experience playing Killer ... There are no friendly Survivors.
During the Event I decided randomly that I would like to learn how to play Nurse, I tried her once like 3-4 years ago around the first time I started to play DBD and I really hated her, but I figured now that I'm a Rank 1 Killer I can try to give her a try again and maybe it will go better.
I've now played probably around 50 matches with Nurse starting at Rank 1 since the Event started, using a Sacrificial Cake for BP boost every single round. I've deranked down to about Rank 6 multiple times, then I get my Rank back up playing other Killers when I finally get fed up...
HOWEVER, the point is, your story is exactly true to my experiences which is why I felt the need to comment:
I CANNOT EVEN BEGIN TO TELL YOU how clear it is that I am a TOTAL noob Nurse player, I mean I literally miss my Blinks point blank over and over again every single match, and one single Survivor can Loop me often for 3-5 gens...
You know what has happened to me a TON of times?
First of all, I get completely Gen Rushed, they don't even bother cleansing a single totem (I'm not using any Hexes)
Then, EVEN if I actually got my FIRST down AFTER all 5 gens have popped (which has happened to me many times now because how bad I am) they will use Flashlights, Flashbangs, and Bodyblocks to prevent me from even managing to get a SINGLE hook.
You know what, I don't even mind only getting 1 hook an entire match if that's the one person I've been chasing the entire game and finally downed them.. but when they rob me of even that small bit of pleasure so I can't even get a single hook and they all escape? Well..
That's when after a few matches I decide to hop on one of my Main Killers and get a 4K +2 pip 32k bp game. lol
I honestly don't know what the reason Survivors have (even when there are 4-5 Sacrificial Cake Offerings Active) to Bully a Baby Killer. I mean, if they just play around with me a little bit more and actually let me get some hits in, they'll still probably escape AND they'll get more BP too by doing so.
1 -
I don't run Meta perks(Except DS OR BT if I'm on a tunneled streak or I need to do a safe unhook challenge)
I never bring in items(stuff found in the match is fair game too me though)
I'll cleanse a totem or open a chest if Gens fly by(Gen speed is busted)
I NEVER play SWF(Unbalanced af, but I also don't have friends D:)
I find the game more fun this way, and it might make playing the game less frustrating for my opponent, so its win-win.
2 -
Playing killer, I usually try to play "fair", even going out of my way to do so at times. By that I mostly mean that I don't camp, tunnel, slug or 3-gen with a vengeance, but follow a hook-it-and-book-it playstyle where I try to chase and hook everyone equally and alternatingly. Going out of my way to do so then obviously meaning that I even let survivors get hook saves for free despite knowing they're there, finding a recently-unhooked survivor and intentionally ignoring them to go for another survivor, picking up a survivor even if I know that slugging them would put me into a better or even a winning position immediately, and such.
That doesn't mean I always do that, sometimes I just chase whoever I find even if they've been unhooked 5 seconds ago, sometimes I try to play hard and abuse all those aforementioned tactics as much as possible. For a long time (and occasionally still) I even played a build revolving around Infectious Fright and Knock Out and never picking up any survivor, playing chases and whack-a-mole until everyone either bled out or they actually managed to get gens done and escape. But overall I play fairly, care about my survivor opponents having an engaging and dynamic, fun and "fair" round (in fact, the full slugging play style for me was precisely about this too, to give myself and survivors a round that is packed full of chases rather than having the usual hook-based gameplay loop), and I even let people escape at times, and regularly give survivors hatch if they're the last one alive.
On the survivor side, I do have to admit that it is much less common an occurence for me to play "nice". I prolong my chases as much as possible, even abusing some of the strongest structures there are in the game, I dilligently work gens, I intercept killer plays at every opportune moment with tactical or aggressive hook saves, pallet, flashlight, bodyblock and sabo saves, I try make the most effective and efficient macro decisions constantly, etc. etc. However, I think this mostly comes down to the fact as opposed to playing as the killer, as a survivor I have no real control over the overall quality of the match; I am just one of four survivors making up my "side", and much of the time if I play solo queue I if anything have to play as hard as possible for the "team" to even have a shot to succeed, because by the Entity, random survivors often simply do not do their "75%" share of work, far from, and so I have to play in a way that allows me to have much more than "25%" impact on the game (and of course, the better and "sweatier" the killer, the more they can and will abuse the weak links in the "team", undermining much of the impact I as a singular survivor can even have).
That said, if I notice that a round is already going really well and/or that the killer is either having a tough time or playing really respectably and fairly, I will actually leave gens and decide that if gens are to be done, other survivors will have to do it. I also do in fact then leave structures I deem to be too oppressive in my chases, not only to make it more "fair" for the killer player, but also because the chases get more engaging for me that way as well if I know the killer won't be playing "dirty". I do more subtle things in those scenarios too, such as changing into a decision-making mindset that is less efficient and effective, to artificially prolong the game without however literally throwing it, e. g. by going for heals at times where I know it is not necessary, searching for Ruin when only one generator remains, and the like.
I even give killers the kill on me at times if they played particularly well or particularly fairly or had a particularly tough time, either by letting them hook me or intiating a chase in the endgame where I'm likely to die despite having had the chance to escape. And more generally, I don't always bring the perks and items/add-ons/offerings I know to be the most effective in terms of winning, despite having enough resources stocked up to do so much of every game. On the killer side I'm actually somewhat less likely to be using "fun" builds and more likely to be using at least mid-range add-ons rather than weak ones than I am on the survivor side. And hell, I regularly play solo-queue survivor to begin with, despite that obviously being much less favourable an environment for me than a SWF setting with people I know to be competent.
But yeah, overall I would say as killer taking it easier on survivors is more ingrained in my general playstyle, whereas as survivor it is not the norm for me to take it easy on the killer, it is more so dependant on situations. Apart from the things I mentioned before, what also plays into that is that I mostly care about chase play in this game, and going for a chase-heavy playstyle as a killer can be detrimental to one's "success" in terms of consistently killing all survivors, whereas having long chases as a survivor obviously benefits the overall round. Additionally I care slightly more about surviving as survivor than I do about killing as killer. Besides, given the matchmaking in its current state, I usually don't really have a hard time killing survivors as killer anyway, so that makes me care even less to play really hard.
0 -
I mean, taking it easy on the killer depends on what the killer is doing. If the killer seems new and decides to farm is one thing, another is just to let them hurt me or something, because chances are, if they finally down me, they will camp me because they are having a hard time hooking survivors.
I don't like to be toxic and I only ever tbag if the killer is toxic too, like going for me the whole match, camping and then tunneling too because they just can. Besides that, I just play normally. If the killer is new and has problems ending the chase, I don't tbag or blind them, but that doesn't mean I also just let them down me.
0 -
No - Why would I? Same as a killer - I don't care if you're a rank 20 I'm going to dumpster you and give you a warm welcome to the game.
Post game I'll give new players tips and advice but that's it.
1 -
Yeah a lot of people don't realize just how much a sweat fest playing killer is. Playing as survivor is much more relaxing, even if you are solo. BHVR keeps talking about a new MMR, but they've been talking about that for months and months, so who knows if that will ever see the light of day.
0 -
I'm not good at the game so I guess I'm always taking it easy on the killer
1 -
It depends. If they’re camping hooks, hard tunnelling, BMing or running tons of slowdowns then no. If they’re obviously just playing to learn/playing chill, or if they got unlucky with bad RNG, then yeah. I’ll stop doing gens and go for totems or chests, or give them free hits and hooks.
Same as when I play killer, I won’t show mercy to someone who rubs me the wrong way but if a survivor seems chill then I’ll ease up or give them hatch/gates.
0 -
I have seen a lot of threads talking about killers playing fairly or dialing it back if someone is new or there is a dc. Or rather people asking killers to chill the beans.
Was just curious if people do that on the survivor end as well and if they don't why not. I'm not asking survivors to throw games or play less then ideal. We all play how we wanna play ^^
0 -
Yah that has happened to me a few times ^^" I am always down to farm and rarely get farming killers so I jump at the chance... but then sometimes it is a noed/blood warden killer. At that point it doesn't really matter for me. Gens done and got some chases/pallet stuns so I got my BPs ^^
0 -
You sound like me when I play survivor ^^
No matter which side I'm playing I just want everyone to have a good time. It always makes me sad to see my teammates BM the killer or make the match as miserable as possible (im a solo). If I see that and I have gotten all my BPs and know I have pipped then I will let the killer chase and hook me as compensation for my teammates crap behavior.
1 -
At the start of a match I rush gens. I just assume the killer is good. If we get 3 gens completed before they even get a single hook then I slow down by going chest/totem hunting. Usually I don't go easy on anyone because I do not expect the same treatment. The only time I might go easy on survivors is if someone had a legitimate DC and I stress legitimate. If it was a rage quit I do not go easy and when they complain in the end game chat I tell them to get angry at their teammate for quitting. As for killer I don't go easy on them because it's tough love. If they need to improve then they need to learn that. Otherwise they will run into a sweaty swf and get demolished. I'm trying to prepare said killer for what the game really is :P
0 -
Hahaha yaaaaaa. You are not wrong. What can I say, this community is a little sensitive and I don't want to step on toes, just wanna have a civil discussion.
Killer main, survivor main, or flex player, I want to hear all opinions without anyone feeling attacked.
0 -
Everyone who says they go easy on the Killer is flat-out lying. In five years not ONCE has a Survivor been nice to me in a game. Not once.
They are virtue-signaling. Don't believe it.
1 -
First off, I'm not a real good survivor anyway, but I do adjust my play if the killer is having a hard time. If the gens are popping fast and he hasn't gotten any hooks, then sometimes I'll search out the killer to give him a chance to get somebody.
I'm not really good at chases, so the killer would have a fighting chance with me.
