Devs won't save you from any kind of ban related to any modification of any game files.
Start a petition maybe.

If you don't do it, why do you care?
You're not going to get a 100% transparent answer as to how the ban system works, because the people who want that much detail are usually the ones who shouldn't have the information in the first place.

Chill, he's asking for a friend

Exactly my friend who makes shirtless characters wants to know

Yea that question, why do you care?
How is it relevant to your interests?
Bhvr devs utilize EAC, easy anti cheat or something, in order to guard against most hacking. Being that they are two different organizations, understand that dbd/BHVR does not directly manage the auto ban system.
So, if EAC bans you for any reason, and that reason happens to be a ' harmless ' perk re-skin, you're toasted. These bans are marked for something I'd guess as "modified game content" and the bans are not easily reversible.
So like, what are you doing that's piqued your interest on the subject?
Are you save-file-injecting? You're gonna get caught eventually, if you are.

Ignoring all of the other hostile and straight up ignorant comments, i am mostly aware of how the modding scene works. During the PTB, and this patch as well, attempting to boot up the game with an unpacked registry and changed files results in it simply removing the changed files and booting as normal. it doesn't ban you, or wag a finger at you and call you a naughty boy, it just scans the files and changes them back to their default if you changed them. You can feel free to try and change them all you want, but unless you're playing on the dev build (the acceptable platform to mod and play with modded content) the game will just reject the files and load as normal. It has nothing to do with EAC, this is just a modification BHVR made themself.

Thank you

Why do you need an explanation? All you need to know is it's not allowed, and you shouldn't do it.
The only reason you would need an explanation, is if you are trying to do it and want to do so without getting caught.
