Do you ever feel like we're being infantilized?
That light-hearted make out thread (about which characters you'd like to see make out) just got deleted, even though there's nothing in the forum rules against it (unless you want to argue that it was porn), and it got me thinking.
Despite DBD being an M-rated game, why does it feel like the etiquette we're supposed to have in-game and on the forums line up more with a site like Neopets? Even sites targeted to a 13+ audience allow you to say the "S word" without a mandatory profanity filter.
Am I the only one that feels this way?

I think it's bullshit that they made a game rated M but the forum is taken down as if it is rated E. little kids shouldn't be on here anyways so who really gives a #########? If they're that worried about it then they should a child lock on it. Sorry just had a "small" rant.

Ppl will rule 34 ANYTHING... Can't have a nice wholesome game about murder without someone sexing it up.

I have my own opinion on the filter currently in the game, but asking for people to behave themselves isn't that strange, is it? There is stuff that's just downright inappropriate, regardless of where it's posted. Generally speaking, any forum without the explicit mention of being NSFW, does not allow NSFW content. That's not infantilisation, that's just etiquette. Some people just don't want to see/read that kind of thing.
Besides, DbD, when it comes down to it, is still rather tame for its M-rating.

Considering the stuff that happens in this game. People get sliced, dice, put on hooks and some moris are gruesome. Bad language, nope. Can't have that. Bad for the kiddies.

I can understand if someone tried posting something NSFW. But god damn it was just a lighthearted chat. It wasn't getting out of hand at any point.

That's how I felt about it too. The worst of it was a picture of Leon and Chris kissing, which I'd understand if that got deleted. But the bulk was just people posting character names.

The thing that gets me about the word filters is that Ash is able to say "Look who's shitting in the tall grass", but we can't even quote him. lol

It's weird though

Exactly my point! Ok I have to stop because if I don't I'll end up blowing up on someone.

How do you expect people not to sex dbd up when Jeff exists?

..

In the near future, BHVR will now make it so this is how we decide our usernames and this is what people will see in game.

I honestly agree, I know younger people play than are supposed to but this really isn't the place for them to be honest. We shouldn't have to be talked down to on their account.

95% of the people who buy the game are adults. They don't give a ######### about swearing or insults. My point here is let us have OUR conversations without making us feel like children being babysat by mods...

I mean, I don’t think the devs don’t know this considering about 90% of Spirit’s skins
1 -
Ok you are right but still, I want to have conversations with all you guys without being babysat by mods.

lmao All of the panty shot glitches.

Sorry if I came off as rude at any point, I just have a tendency to blow up easily...

I posted the Leon/ Chris picture and thought nothing of it, now I'm feeling kinda bad. Was the thread getting out of hand after that?

I definitely understand this view. But at the same time, the content they've licensed tends to be heavily centered around strong language and sex. Therefore I'd think the majority brought to the game via those licenses wouldn't be too off-put by that sort of content.

Not at all. Just people posting names.
I wouldn't feel bad about it at all. You should see the replies on the DBD twitter account lmao

No none of it was your fault

Yeah, it was a bit weird but my biggest problem was that we were just talking about a lighthearted conversation that had absolutely nothing wrong with it and they took it down.

Thats actually a good point. Most of these 80s horror movies have some sex scenes and profanity. Might be a fun watch for a horror comedy if theres a killer who hounds his victims on the dangers of teenage pregnancy before killing them, all while using language no stronger than "gosh darnit".

Pretty sure most things you can think of are against the forums rules, just as most things you type in-game will be censored.

Thanks

We have forum rules that are set in place for a reason, and we do not allow any kind of inappropriate content being posted if it's too much; and at times those kind of things can escalate very, very quickly and can cause consequences for multiple users.
Whether the game is 18+ rated or not, we have a certain standard we want to uphold on the forums. We do have it also in the rules when it comes to content like this: https://forum.deadbydaylight.com/en/kb/articles/137-forum-rules
