When you don't have gen slowdown perks in Purple/Red ranks...

Question for all purple/red rank killer players. How do you have fun? I hit these ranks yesterday and I wanna die. I played 10 rounds and lost 10 rounds. Not because chases where to long or I couldn't find anyone. In fact I was almost the whole time in chase after chase but still the gens are flying like nothing only because I have no gen slowdown perks.

I wanna go back to green ranks where I can actually have fun and don't have to use ruin/undying or pop/corrupt to just a have a chance. I don't mind losing, but I would be happy when the round was a bit longer then 4 minutes...

Its call red rank its a pain for that unless you are a f*ing god at this game you need to drop the creativity you had for your build or you juat dont care if the match last 4 minute

yeah in red ranks if you dont have slow down perks you either need to end chases very very fast or slug. You also have a far smaller margin for error, especially if your playing a weaker killer

The less defense perks you have, the more offensive you need to be. I use a lot of meme perks in red/purple because the game refuses to put me lower and I wanna mess around. I don't know why my toys break so easily though. I was just tapping them with my weapon, honest.

Spirit Fury/Enduring is a fun combo, but it really comes down to you locking down the gen jockey on their team. Thanks to rifts a lot of survivors are off doing random things they normally wouldn't do, but that gen jockey needs a lot more attention than the Meg wandering around.

On purple/red ranks you need at least one gen regression perk, unless you play one of the top killers that are very mobile like Nurse, Blight or Oni with infectious fright. With all the others it's really hard to keep the gens. What speaks for you against a slowdown perk?

If you definitely don't want to take one, I can recommend the ones suggested above or a good snowball killer with a 3gen tactic like Trapper or Hag. Also extremely fun is Plague with lethal presuer, then you can super at the beginning, depending on the spawn of the survivors, infect all and make pressure.

I stopped using gen slowdown perks a long time ago. Mainly because they are meh at best.

What you can do is tunnel someone out early. If it succeeds, you´ll apply pressure and might turn the match around. Otherwise you´ll see a 0-1 kill and "gg ez" at the endgame screen. Sure, you will get flamed for tunneling. But since you won´t even get a nice message when you don´t tunnel, it really makes no difference.

Oh and on the plus side: this drags the ridiculous red rank kill rate down.

I'm a rank 1 killer (just a man, not a god) and I hardly ever use gen slowdowns. I just had a 4K on Freddy with 3 endgame perks and discordance - and I didn't even reach endgame. When I do, it's typically pop goes the weasel and I'll tell you why.

It takes a long time as a killer to realize that the best strategy to score points and "win" is not to focus on eliminating survivors and keeping the gens alive. The name of the game is hooks and hits. If you're tunnel chasing a single survivor or constantly worried about your gen count, you're gonna have a bad time. Find the weakest runner, down 'em, hook 'em, and move on to the next. You'll cap your score in no time, and you will get more 4Ks overall as you learn that suvivors being hooked or in the dying state is the greatest gen slow down perk in the game.

Sometimes you'll get the SWF that seems impossible to beat. I usually just AFK and let them play generator simulator. It's a waste of my time to cater to streamers and tweenies who thing the absolute goal of the game is to BM and taunt the other side. Stick your head in a corner and go for a poo or coffee or something. Let them figure out how un-fun the game can be when they play that way.

I decided instead of running good / meta builds on every killer, I just run perks that makes the game more fun and enjoyable / less annoying.

For example my avarage build on most killers is something like this:

Shadow Born = just feels nice and better to play with (more comfort)

Light Born = don't get me stressed about someone last switching to flashlight or worry about someone waiting next to downed person to free escape grasp, flashbangs, etc. Perk that makes game more enjoyable and fun, because it reduces frustration a lot. Also that perk is funny since almost no one expecting this and just mindlessly running around you or trying to blind you = free hits.

Enduring = Feels nice and don't care about palets and just eat them.

BBQ = Great to tell you where to go next + adds a nice bonus to points.

And yes, I play on red ranks and I play almost every killer.

This game in red ranks for the most part is strictly revolved around gen slow down perks, meaning how fast can the survivors repair the gens and power the gates before the killer gets a 4k..

Against good teams if you don’t run gen slowdowns you’re going to lose the majority of your games and depip unless you’re a good nurse.. I play a lot of bottom 15 killers in this game and run corrupt and pop or ruin/pop on almost all my builds..I wish I didn’t have to run slowdowns at all but these maps are so bad for 85% of these killers in this game. Imagine having no slowdowns as a bottom 15 killer against a Swf on fractured cowshed?

I feel like this sometimes too lately at purple - red. For me, I break things up by trying fun builds, specifically jumpscares are my favorite. I lower my expectations a bit as well. I don't seek out a 4k as a win for me. For me a win is any of the following:

    • Having fun

    • Putting on a decent showing / close match

    • Getting better at looping, tracking and mind gaming

    • Scaring survivors

    • Doing well without resorting to camping and tunneling (Doesn't mean I won't do it under pressure)

I don't care about pipping up or down as killer or survivor.

This may not be the answer you want to hear so I have another answer for you though. Sometimes I want to be creative but still have slowdown. In these instances I run one impactful slowdown / regression perk such as Pop or Corrupt Intervention and then I dedicate the other 3 slots to whatever I'm feeling. It's really important to build them around your slowdown of choice but I've had really good results with fun builds only utilizing one gen slowdown perk (Usually Corrupt Intervention because that perk is so incredibly underrated).

Don't give up and don't be discouraged. Not all matches are going to be the same.
