I am SO tired of 10 hours long updates
Dead by daylight is the ONLY game in my steam library that takes HOURS to install even 10 MB updates. Any other game would have had this 300 MB update installed in max 2 mins, but dbd always takes me at least 2 hours.
Currently I've been sitting here for I think an hour and the update has yet to start downloading files. Untill now it has only been using disk space (about 25-30 MB/s).
And I've tried A LOT of things in my attempt of fixing this. But in the end I searched up specifically for dbd taking forever to update, and what I found is surprising.
A WAY too big amount of people experience insane update times with dbd. So I wonder if there is any explanation to this?
Edit: Also I don't accept replies saying it's my PC's fault. If it would be, then all other games would take hours to update. Not to mention my PC and internet speed is what most people would have considered VIP in late 2019, when I got my laptop.

I have the same issue. It doesn’t take hours, but while bigger updates from other games take 2-3 minutes, it usually takes about 30+ for a DBD update. I don’t really get why.

Its because of the read and write speed of your hard drive, I have a 5k read and write ssd and the updates are usually done within 2 minutes for a bug fix and 3~5 minutes for a chapter or mid chapter depending on the size of the patch
before I had a hard drive with 200mb read and write and it took 20-30 minutes

It takes about 2 minutes for me, but then, my internet is really fast 😁
I hate how long it takes for a match to load.

And I can't consider my internet to be bad. I use an ethernet connection and I usually cap at 50-60 MB/s download speed on steam.
Oh didn't I mention in the thread a few times that any other game updates in 2 mins for me too, except DBD.

Hi! I used to have a similar issue.
The problem for me came down to having an SSD versus an HDD. I have great internet, yet many games (Including DBD) used to take many hours to update. (DBD used to just be the biggest offender since their updates are usually huge.)
Nowadays my updates take about 20 minutes tops since I swapped over to an SSD. Might help you out.

But then I don't understand why any other game updates in 2 mins.

My laptop has both an hdd and an ssd. However, ever since I first installed windows, I never saw the SSD in my listed available drivers. I honestly don't know why.

Took me 2 min but I have a ps5 and very good internet ^^

Oh hey, I came back to my PC and now I notice that the update is 5.3 GB big and I have installed 5.0GB. I am really confused at this point.

Other games have less complicated updates, download 1 gb of update ready and write 1 gb of update, dbd has lower total download sizes but massive amounts of information to read and write

I tried downloading the update today. Not that I plan on playing dbd but I keep up to date on it encase friends want to play. First time I tried downloading around 10am EST, it said "More than a year". About 20 mins after that it downloaded rather quickly. When it finished it said "Corrupted Update Files". I ended up verifying data integrity and it found nothing wrong. Yet after it finished doing this it downloaded the update again. The game turns on and all my stuff appears to still be there.
I find it's best to just play something else the day of an update. It's usually easier the next day when everyone isn't trying to download it.

Takes me 2 hours but I have i7 8th gen and sadly an HDD, topped with a very good internet ^^.
Once more I have to mention that my internet is good and my pc is also very good. Once more I have to mention that any other game will update in 2 mins for me too.
Seriously people, refrain from replying if you don't bring something constructive to the thread. As it seems, a lot of people agree that DBD particularly takes much longer to update than other games, so flexing your impressive specs won't help anyone. As I saw from other threads that I've read, people with amazing specs also have this issue (and I personaly don't consider my pc and internet bad. Outside of the disgusting 8 GB RAM, everything is just super good. And those 8 GB come from the fact that laptops with more than that also come with more expensive and, from my point of view not necessary considering my current setup will pull at least 120 fps out of multiplayer games with insane graphics)

I rarely install games on my Steam, because I dont play many Games. However, every DBD-Update takes way longer than needed.
I dont know how big this Patch was today, but it took me a few seconds to download it and then around 30 minutes to install it. It was 100% downloaded, but the updating of the game took a little bit over 30 minutes.
The last two games I downloaded were 18GB and 36GB and if I remember correctly, both were faster done or at least not much longer (in regards to the 36GB-game).
And those two were installed on my HDD while DBD is on my SSD.

So I still have my question about why after already 1 hour and a half no files were downloaded, but the update size increased to 5.3 GB with 5GB installed.
0 -
Exactly my issue! Here am I standing in front of my PC for 1 hour and a half with files yet to be downloaded, while any other 40GB+ game would have already been installed.

When it comes to DbD, the general answer is because - Behaviour.
0 -
Exactly. This is why I update DBD basically immediatly when the Update dropped or I am home. Every other game I would probably update shortly before playing, but I cannot afford that with DBD.
I have read somewhere that you should have DBD on an SSD and 100 GB free at least on that, and this should help, but I really dont know if that really helps (and I cannot really imagine why that should help in the first place).

SSD>HDD
looked at my task manager after it was done downloading files and my SSD where DBD is installed was reading at 350MB/sec.

So after all these comments regarding SSD, I have finally found a way to make my SSD show up (after almost 2 years of having it). I will move DBD to the SSD after this update and hopefully future updates won't take this long.

Touched a nerve, sorry to set you off.
First, this is an open discussion forum so people can pop in and say what they want. I could come in and say 'ooga booga boo' and that would be that. Whether you want to engage with me is your choice.
I use to have those long dl times when I was on my ps4 so I understand your pain. It took at least an hour if not more for the dl to finish. This was true for both overwatch and DBD (the main online games I play). I then got a ps5 and problem gone. Everything dl super fast, even if I missed a couple updates and my system is catching up. Its great and it makes me happy ^^
So maybe my point is you need an upgrade or some part does? I am not computer person but I would think a good pc can outperform a ps easily.

And I'm sorry to react like that. I'm a really impulsive person.
I think the issue is indeed the HDD, so I am planning to move DBD to my SSD. Although I'm not sure this will fix it, considering someone just said they have the same issue on an SSD.

Did you check in disk management to see if your new drive was there to be formatted they won't show up in bios or in file manager without being formatted so unless you formatted it with a windows cd you would need to check disk management first, load it up there then format it to start using it, if it has enough space you can even put windows on it then use it as your main disk and make your computer boot faster / start up faster but putting dbd on it will definitely see an improvement in updates and maybe even in game performance since it seems to heavily rely on hard drive

I did manage to make it appear and told steam to move DBD. A few steam folders and files have popped up in there but nothing within them. I guess all that's left is me waiting forever.

It also takes quite a lot of time for me to update DBD. And what annoys me even more is that when you think the download is finished, steam says that files are corrupted or something. And in order not to get this error 4 by EAC when you launch into the game, you have to verify your files which takes time too 😡
0 -
It does take a while to move files, but it should be worth it
0 -
For me EAC causes no issues. However, after any update, my game will crash or disconnect me for a day or 2.
0 -
Now the only issue is that I have to wait for the game to update, and as it currently goes, it won't finish in less than 4 hours. Update started at 0.0 MB/ 312.2 MB and it now reached 17.4 GB/ 17.712 GB, after continuously growing to 5 GB 10 GB, 15 GB...

OMG IT ACTUALLY STARTED DOWNLOADING SOMETHING and the blue bar is filled with an aproximation of 30-60 seconds left... So maybe not 4 hours, maybe just one or 2.
