We have had no modern iconic killers

They began shooting in February of 2020, they had to stop in March and only resumed this summer.
As far as I know, they are close to done filming now.

We have Demogorgon, non-humanoids can work
Slither I don't see working because the worms are tiny brain slugs and I don't see how it could translate

My Bloody Valentine was actually a 1981 Slasher film. It just had a remake done in 2009. In which case, Freddy had a remake done in 2010, and Michael Myers a soft reboot in 2018. And Leatherface had a remake in 2003 (and other films in 2006, 2013, and 2017) and a soft reboot coming in 2022. So, if you include My Bloody Valentine, then those three also fit into "modern."
2 -
Nemesis would be considered modern since he's based on the new RE3. Same with Freddy and the newest Nightmare film. Like My Bloody Valentine and The Mist, they're older properties with newer versions.

Pyramid Head debutted in 2002, Pig in 2004 tho?
1 -
I would bet money Stranger Things and the Demogorgon are more well known than almost anything on your list like outlast
2 -
"Rightfully so" lol. It's the character's fault for what happened to that kid? If someone commits a crime in the name of Superman or Elmo, should we drop those beloved characters too?

Look into the case.

To be fair, something can be iconic within a year or 2. Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees were pretty much iconic after their first appearance.
Pretty sure if DBD was made back then, Myers and Voorhees would be top of the list quite quickly, even though other iconic killers like Frankensteins Monster and Count Dracula werent even added.
I'd say The Nun is an iconic horror movie killer, purely because the way she originally appeared in the movies, it's really a shame they spend 95% of the movie just going for jumpscares.
Amnesia and FNaF would also fit those "instant classics" definition of iconic. They were fairly original concepts that massively broadened what we would define as a horror. Just like Myers, Jason, Freddy, Amanda, Ghostface, Nemesis and PH expanded on what was possible. I'd say influence is by far the one and only factor that makes something iconic. Age just gives it more time to amass a greater influence.

Insults are a great tool to get people on your side, aren't they?
Try explaining your viewpoint before throwing out meaningless and petty insults, okay?
5 -
To be honest Slenderman does have a chance since quite bit of people would like to see him ingame.
It's awful for what happened to the kid but not really fair to put the blame on Slenderman and say he caused all of this so we should forget he ever was created, which is what most people's thoughts go right to automatically sadly.
100% Devs could revive him and do it better than Sony's attempt.......which is bold of me to call an "Attempt"

"We didn't want to go, we didn't want to kill them"
"Notable for being taken the day which fourteen children vanished and for what is referred to as "The Slender Man"
These are both taken directly from the lore. Whilst video games are not the cause of people's actions, they do influence them. Bringing Slenderman back would be in bad taste, just like Jeepers Creepers would be. Likewise, the character is often depicted in a more benevolent way these days. It has changed considerably from the original way back in '09 and it has never regained it's popularity.

Then you have no argument, and therefore, I win automatically.
Thank you.

Also this
3 -
Well I am just gonna say this.
They said they talk to lord Voldemort and the teenage mutant ninja turtles. So pretty sure they would have done it with a different fictional character that all I am gonna say.
Also with Jeepers Creepers is different. Director that helped make the movie did bad stuff. No one in creation or real life connection of Slenderman did anything bad just some random girls.
[edit] PS I am still hating how people give Slenderman the bad rap. Did nothing wrong and was used to make scary stories and video games.

Regardless, he has a terrible reputation.
2 -
Well we have Halloween and I'm sure we all know about the Halloween II killing.

Senderman was not dropped because of anything you just mentioned. 4 years after this case we had a very ######### movie based on the slender games. The reason why we don't see anything slender related is simply because the hype is gone and as it shows the game premise and the character were not iconic enough to create an actual franchise out of it.
And the argument of being of bad taste for someone to use slender on anything just because someone did something stupid and tried to connect their stupidity with something unrelated to it, is simply nonsensical.
0 -
And why didn't people go see the movie?
Probably because the only thing 95% of them ever heard about Slenderman was the stabbing case.
Saying it didn't contribute heavily is foolish.
2 -
Because people choose to focus on that solely when thinking about him.
Other fictional characters "influenced" bad actions but we ignore it to preserve the character we like for example Freddy Kruger which I am not gonna go into detail why but has nothing to do with Reboot.
Main point is just because some how a fictional character was involved in a real life event should mean we always have to associate it with what happened and just let all the good memories we had of it just rot away to never be brought up ever again.
I get it if someone involved with the creation or has a connection to a fictional character like a story writer that was involved in something bad which in response most people will hate or be uneasy to see it be popular.
In Slenderman's case it was just some random girls that just read about Slenderman on the internet which everyone has access to. Not the creator or someone connected to him just random people.
Heck he was the first internet horror character just to be made by the internet by random people based on 2 pictures for a contest.
0 -
Again, doesn't really matter.
Most people will recognize him based off of the stabbings. That's not a good look for ANY company.
2 -
Also reason people did not see the movie was because Sony did not even use the Slender Mythos or anything that people recognized with Slenderman.
No 8 pages, no cameras, no classic jumpscares, and hardly Slenderman in the movie.
Blum house would have done a better movie than Sony.

pls stop bullying me on the internet

The same way people don't play Doom games or stopped listening to Marilyn Manson because of Columbine.
No one really cares about this sort of stuff. I would argue that just make people more interested in the IP than anything.
The reason why not a lot of people went to see the movie is simple. The Slender brand was basically already dead at the time. No games were being released for half a decade and the creepypasta trand os long gone. And let's not forget the fact that the movie is terrible. Turns out that releasing a movie about an ip that no one cares anymore and on top of that the movie being #########, equals to not a lot of sales, who would have guessed, right?
0 -
True but Sony did not care......which in result Movie still sucked.
Dead by Daylight Devs would do a better revival than Sony ever did. Slenderman deserves one more shot to be in the good media again since he was quite popular for 6 to 7 years so at least give him another chance.
0 -
To be fair Slender Man isn't really that popular anymore and certainly had his five minutes of fame awhile back. When compared to the horror icons of the 80's a lot of the newer horror characters/creepy pasta don't really hold a candle to them as well.
Definitely give Hellraiser a chance though as it isn't like most of the other horror film killers the game has. Why not give all of them a go as the 80s icons in a lot of ways was the golden era of horror.
1 -
Having slender running after you and trying to smack the heck out of you doesn't really fit the character as well, so I doubt behavior could pull something cool out of slender. Unless they manage to do something extremely unique, which I doubt it
0 -
True but Slenderman was one of those characters you could basically make any horror story if you follow Slender mythos aka Tentacles, Teleportation, 8 pages, static, etc.
I do agree with 80's killers being ingame but Slenderman would be an interesting yet fun killer to have ingame if done right. For a character that was popular for 6 to 7 years Devs should give him a chance.

I'll leave the lot of ye to decide about this yourselves. Evidence for some of your arguments

Sums it up

Hol up.
Demo is most definitely humanoid in the source material.
0 -
That's way too small of a sample size.
Plus, most people here actually know horror.
2 -
The monsters/killers they bring into the game have to fit into the game. While im a big Lovecraft and king fan, im not sure how anything from the mist can possible fit into the game? Its late so maybe im not thinking but i dont see how anything from the mist is going to fit into DBD.
Hollow man is a man who is invisible...we kinda have that already with Wraith.
What would the purge killer be? I assume it'll be the polite leader? What would his power be exactly? Nothing about what he does is iconic. Hes a memorable character yes, but each killer in the game has a gimmick of some sort and Purgers are just humans who go out killing with a weapon and a mask. Just like American Psycho. We kinda already have this with Legion.
The reason so many older killers are wanted is because they are ingrained in horror folk history. If you were to ask random people to pick 5 horror characters, old or young they would usually go to pick Freddy, Myers, Jason, Pinhead, Leatherface from cinema. The Conjuring franchise has been very popular in the past few years but i dont know anyone who knows horror (and i know quite a few) who would tell me the nun or annabelle is more iconic than Myers & Freddy.
From Games they would pick from silent hill and RE as those two are the most well known. What
Im a big fan of everything horror and i do hope to see some of the more recent additions. Just in moderation.
You're also forgetting that its not always up to BHVR. Its up to whoever owns the copyright & licensing. If they dont want to play ball, they really dont have to. You dont know which franchises BHVR have thought about ot enquired about only to be told, "nope".

American Psycho was released in 2000 and based off a book from 1991, My Bloody Valentine is a remake of a movie from 1981, A Quiet Place is not a slasher but a monster movie, The Mist is Lovecraftian Eldritch monsters, Slither is another monster/alien movie, Hollow Man is yet another in a long line of remakes/adaptations of The Invisible Man by HG Wells published in 1897, the Purge doesn't have any iconic killers and kinda already exists in DBD as The Legion, Saw was released in 2004 and saw Amanda as a killer in Saw 2 and 3 which came out in 2005 and 2006 respectively, Pyramid Head appeares in both Silent Hill movies released in the late 2000s. If you think something released in 2004 and ran Seven straight years with two follow up films since is "ancient history" I feel really bad for you and wonder if your parents know you're using the internet and playing an M rated game....

Well I don't think any of the killers added were "popular anymore" as the game is usually the first time I hear about them and they are all pretty old. The most popular one is probably Freddy afaik. Although that can depend on what exactly you mean by "popular".
"don't really hold a candle to them as well." That's all subjective to be fair. To me for example, Myers is just "guy with knife" whose hard to kill or something. Same with Jason. Leatherface is just "Ugly guy with Chainsaw". Personally near my bottom of interesting characters. Although that's probably partially because I didn't experience these as they came out.
Every horror character had their "5 minuets of fame". I've never even heard of Hell Raiser before this chapter. Same with Halloween and Bubbas movie.
Its cool to have these relics of horror as they were important for the genres history, but some more recent editions would be nice for those of us who the old ones don't really have an impact with since we don't really know who they are or experienced it the same way as those who grew up with it did.
There's no reason to keep it exclusively killers from way back when imo. Some more things from the current/recent generation of horror would be nice. At the least things that are at least somewhat still generally known, like the Xenomorph from Alien as that franchise still gets new content and Alien Isolation made a big splash when it landed.
For example, I'm not against Hell Raiser, but when was the last time it got content? 19 years ago. The original movie is 34 years old. Something more recently relevant would be nice is all.

Dude ######### is wrong with people seriously, I thought it was a prank like you know, scare the kids with costumes prank not ######### stabs holy crap

Yeah I had no idea this was a thing until my friend played a video during a call once.
1 -
Yeah no wonder I don't see anymore slenderman videos and stuff like you know creepypastas and stuff.
That is just messed up, but hopefully the kid is good and not friends with the other kids anymore, I'm actually in shock of that, like I can't believe kids would do something like that.

Honestly no idea how she survived. ######### miracle. And I thought I was ######### in the head Personally I think this really does hurts the idea of a slender chapter

Sad but true. Also some how missed the vital parts of the body that is a miracle.
Would just love to see Slenderman have a 2nd chance and a fresh new start
