Dead by Daylight is coming to an end?

After this news it makes me think that DbD will no longer be like before.

It makes me think that they are losing one of their best licenses, Stranger Things, the only license with a lot of content.

I wonder if perhaps, no one wants to be motivated to continue playing this game because of this news because, for the first time, a license is leaving and that shows the harsh reality, that not everything is forever. In addition, the map, it is the first time that it is gone forever and that is what infuriates me, that they take away a license that means so much to Dead by Daylight, the only one with a lot of content.

This news makes me angry and sad, I think I should blame Netflix more for this, now my happiness tomorrow for the new killer fades.

Plus I doubt if this ever happens to Silent Hill or Resident Evil. I also don't want to imagine if this will happen to them. Because the content especially of RE is based on RE2 and RE3.

I think that this game is not finished being complete with its "Hall of Fame of horror" Now maybe I think that we will never have Jason Voorhees, by the licensees...

Unlikely they’re gonna add another horror icon next chapter(PTB tomorrow) chance to be more iconic then Demo in killer terms and much more to make up for the loss of Stranger Things. Though still brutal

DBD is not coming to an end, but this is an incredible blow to the community. Demo is probably one of, if not the most iconic killer in the game. He has so many memes surrounding him, hes loved by almost everyone whos played this game, and he comes from an incredibly beloved series. While DBD will march on as a game, im quite sure our morale will never recover. I've got a demo shaped hole in my heart.

Am I the only one that is yes, concerned about the licensed characters futures as well but feel many people are being dramatic that this is the end of dbd? That's not meant to be condescending or anything, I just know dbd is doing well financially. Too well. I don't think it is the end at all. Just a heartbreaking end. You never know, if dbd ends for good, I'll eat my words but I think it'll be fine after the dust settles and everyone accepts it. :)

I think the news isn't that deep to read into. We are losing the chapter almost definitely due to Netflix starting their own game studio. Much like Demo and Hopper haven't been in the Fortnite item shop since 6th of November 2019. Epic probably don't have the licence still.

I'm really worried about what might happen to the licenses, I'm not sure if they all work the same, you have to renew them and if not, it will be removed, maybe the Nightmare on Elm Street license worries me even more.

But you can't deny what was always here, was Stranger Things.

It's a license, not the full game. The people at Netflix probably wanted more $, or they have their own plans for that license and wanted it to expire. Stranger Things has been delayed a ton by covid, so it is possible sometime next year the next season will come out alongside a new game using these characters.

Again, it could be that Netflix just wanted too much money to renew. BHVR are suspected (by me at least) for being tight-pursed in that regard. Otherwise we would have cross progression for Playstation users already.

I'm assuming Netflix is pursuing other game titles and, they either don't want to renew their license with DBD or it's too expensive to renew for BHVR. Grab the characters if you don't already have them and, I'm sure the Hawkins map can be reskinned or just abandoned, not much loss there.

New players won't have access in the future, which is sad but, you can't always count on licensed material. Poor Friday the 13th players had an entire game development shut down on them due to licensing issues.

Demo is not even a contender for being the most iconic killer in the game. Myers, Ghostface, Bubba, Freddy are way more iconic in the horror genre.

Sorry, i meant iconic in a community sense. I Don't think any of the other killers we have has been memed as heavily as demo, nor recieved the same levels of praise as he has. You are correct though, he is on the bottom rungs of iconic if we consider only the franchises with no community context.

I'm hoping it isn't permanent and they might renew in a year or two

As MrGimms would say legit get a grip dude no this doesn't mean DBD is dying its one chapter out of many please stop with these pointless posts saying one bad thing happens and "DBD's dying"

In my opinion yes, the collaboration was for the fame of the series in 2017-2019 but at the same time I think that this game is destined to icons of classic horror that we once saw. With Hellraiser it is returning to the classic Slasher genre, but this news and with all this time with the DLC, now it will be the characters of ST will be Legacy in DbD.

Fans of stranger things lose nothing they will still be able to play normally those characters and the map well that's unfortunate but map wasn't any good either way and they lost license it's not end of world or end of game

Ah I see what you mean. He may have many memes but you can't argue with stats when it comes to his pick rates. He's one of the least played killers. Its not like he was ever popular.

Of course DBD won't die because of this, the game is probably at its peak right now if we're talking about sheer numbers. After the RE patch it became nearly unplayable on last gen consoles (probably the biggest playerbase the game has) and even then it didn't even get close to dying. Sure losing content is always sad, but it's not like DBD doesn't have other 20 chapters available.

Between how performance just gets worse and worse and now losing a bug license it definitely doesn't look good but as long as people continue to play and spend money on cosmetics DBD will keep going.

Just remember that BHVR abandoned a nice game: Deathgarden: BLOODHARVEST. I bought some licensed DbD DLCs and now I think that BHVR will do the same. I just wasted my money.
