How does getting tunneled make you feel?

While I rarely get tunneled due to the fact that I'm not a super toxic light-clicking, teabagging jerk, when I do, it usually annoys me at the time and I might sound quite angry at times for it, depending on the circumstances, I get over it pretty quickly and move on. It might be toxic of the killer to do, but on the other hand, it's part of the game and it's gonna happen, so really you don't have much of another option than to just get over it.

What bothers me more than tunneling is when the Survivors do nothing to stop it from happening, such as running in and unhooking me right in front of the Killer without Borrowed Time, and not even making an effort to take a hit for me. This basically forces the Killer to tunnel, and it annoys me a lot more than tunneling itself. I'm not gonna force anyone to run Borrowed Time, because even I don't use it in my normal build, but the least you can do is take a hit for me, and you're a straight up coward if you don't.

Seeing as I'm usually good at running the killer for at least 3 gens, it just makes me roll my eyes lol

No matter what the outcome is for me personally, I know nobody's going to have a lot of points and it will have been a boring match for everyone involved

Honestly it's a mixed bag for me. I get why some Killers do it, because if generators are flying or you're going up against a sweaty team then you need every advantage you can get, but from a survivor's perspective it can be infuriating. Not only does it lead to a quick game over screen, but if you brought in a really good item or offering such as party streamers, then it makes that quick death that much more painful, which is why I'm usually hesitant to bring anything good in and just rely on what's in the map.

It sucks a bit, but I'm only salty if the Killer absolutely ignores everything else, even people on Gens in front of em etc. Accidental and circumstantial tunnels are just part of the game and happen

IE: The Killer couldn't find anyone else and came across me, or if I was the Killer's previous target, failed a skill check or something and the Killer came to investigate and found me.

It sucks but I move on, deliberately gunning after me and only me, esp in back to back games makes me stop from playing Survivor all that much.

When I'm being properly tunnelled (by that, I mean not being silly enough to wander into the killer's path or not escape properly - I mean REALLY tunnelled), it's normally because I've pissed the killer off sufficiently, and because of that I tend to see the funny side. Had a hilarious match earlier today against Nemesis where he tunnelled me for 4 gens after a couple of pallet stuns, where it was ultimately the female zombie which got me, as she and Nemesis cornered me. In fairness, I could see why, although I was playing fair, and I don't blame Nemesis for doing it, although tactically it wasn't his finest moment.

On the odd occassion it's just a killer choosing to or a bad save, sure it's frustrating, but nothing I find worth getting upset about because it's just one trial, and the next one will be different.

It's dull and I for one an a bit underwhelmed with what the PTB shows for perks. Seems to me one of them will aid in tunneling even more.

Have to use a number of perks to counter all the fun sucking gameplay and you've no room for nonmeta perks if you want a chance in most matches.

I play at most anymore 3-5 games before obnoxious lazy playstyles push me to do something else.

Had a couple of crap games as killer so I said the devil with it and played without perks or addons and I did the old tunnel camp and 4k'd way out of my league. My skill did not deserve to get 2 kills against who I was facing yet it was stupidly easy. I'd blame the players that do it but it is the best way to "win" when you are placed in a match out of your depth. I get why its done but it's a symptom of the problem not to actual problem.

Same. It's annoying, but I understand it and get more frustrated at the game and myself for not being good enough to loop better.

I don't go down very easily so it can be very advantageous to my team if I can keep the killer following me through loop after loop. A fresh survivor doesn't know what loops I've already been through, but I do.

If I see a person on 2nd hook early in the game and I unhook him, Ill follow where he goes so that I can either

    1) heal him where he feels comfortably safe

    2) take a hit for him if the killer is close by

When I get 'tunneled', more often than not, I don't think it's intentional. More likely the person that unhooked me disappears and hides, while I am injured, making pain sounds and leaving blood trails. Even when I follow the person that unhooks me, if the killer is hot on my trail, the teammate is not willing to take a hit and just keeps running ahead of me.

The only way to remove tunneling and make it obsolete is to make all survivors share 12 hook states, so that targeting specific survivors will be pointless. It would be the healthiest decision. Unfortunately, the devs don't care enough about this core game issue to change anything.

I aim to inconvenience the killer as much as possible when I'm being tunneled. I will run to a place with completed gens, throw a bunch of pallets and live as long as possible.

    So... spiteful.

Nah they need a REAL Anti-Tunnel perk.

Fight or Flight: “If you’re in a chase with the killer for more than 30 seconds without being injured Fight or Flight activates, giving the survivor 14% Haste effect until the chase ends”.

That way survivors must give up a perk slot to use this situational tactic. If you’ve been chased for more than 30 seconds without getting hurt I consider it a tunnel. That’s basically 1 gen if people double up on it. It’s like having Hope and Blood Pact at end game collapse. Unless the killer has ranged attacks, or some mobility they can’t really get you. Most killers that tunnel are M1 killers like Ghost Face, Freddy, Myers, WRAITH, and WRAITH. Don’t forget WRAITH. The Tunnel King. Even then Wraith can uncloak to remove this buff, but he can’t hurt you while cloaked. If you have a vault, pallet, or flashlight you can fend against the Tunnel King. So it’s fair.

We def need some real anti-tunnel perk(s) in the game. Off The Record would be better if it also suppressed scratch marks. Or even a version of suppressing your tracking for a short duration after escaping The Killer's grasp.

With that said, I totally understand that some circumstances call for it. However, I wouldn't say I like getting tunneled unnecessarily, such as when no gens have been completed and The Killer is already dominating. Or the "going out of your way" to tunnel me, that's annoying. It's more like WHY?

If I'm wasting the killer's time and leading them all over the map, at least I know that I'm giving the other survivors time to (theoretically) get gens done. It's a little annoying, but fine because I'm still helping. If I'm just getting instantly downed off of hook, I'm frustrated and not really having fun.

Being tunneled makes me feel irritated, but not significantly longterm bothered. It doesn't happen enough, in a deliberate enough fashion, to feel to me like a serious detriment to the gameplay. There are other things that irk me a lot more (Wraith invisibly camping a hook, Hag spamming her traps, etc).

I don't care if generators are getting done. I start getting annoyed when the morons on my team start:

    • Crowding the hook for saves.
    • Not doing generators.
    • Going for "meme cool stuff I saw in this one Youtube vid" instead of just playing normally.

    Same opinion on camping, really.

Like a challenge. It turns into running practice under all circumstances, no matter how unfortunate. In the moment I likely am pissed, but it's ok in the end.

If I'm being tunneled after I run the Killer for 3 gens, I take it as he/she messed up by keeping the chase that long, is pissed, and is taking it out on me. So at least in that way it makes sense.

Today I had a Rank 3 Freddy camping and tunneling at 4 gens. No one was being toxic. No one even had a flashlight. So that just irritates me. When it's done from the first down at 4-5 gens up, it might not be personal, but it's intentional. They're making a conscious decision to camp and tunnel a bunch of Solo survivors and they know it's a game ruiner for at least one person. Then the d/c's start (every single time). No one wants to endure that as it's almost like a thrown match and they would rather wait their 3 min penalty. I actually play the game less now and take longer breaks b/c the camping/tunneling is so pervasive and ridiculous.

I'll sit here and wait for the usual characters on the forum to have an absolute freak out in this thread lol.

My friends and I start to play dirty back. It usually doesn’t end up well for the killer.

I think some killers are so used to tunneling they think they are going against the same “casual” players every time.

Depends how the killer is tunneling me. If they wait for the I-frames to end after I get unhooked I'd get pretty annoyed, but if there tunneling me in a way where I can actually run and loop them I don't care.

14%? That’s laughable. You’ll be faster than killers like Huntress and Deathslinger.

    Real way to counter tunneling:

Crank out gens so your teammates’ sacrifice isn’t in vain. Don’t unhook without BT if the killer has been tunneling/camping.

It's always frustrating to be singled out and removed from the game, regardless of the reasoning behind it. Especially if you weren't able to make at least 10k BP worth of progress.

I never take it out on anyone or carry it to the next match though. Unless I get tunneled/camped two or more matches in a row. I just take a break at that point because I'm obviously not allowed to play for the night lol

Its a part of the game. Im not a manchild so i accept thats how the other player wishes to play, of course im not having fun but i've learned to not be bothered by it. I'll waste as much of their time as i can before i die then i move on. Its more for the good of my team at that point than it is for me.

I actually don't mind chases when the game works and If the killer wants to tunnel I don't hold it against them unless they bm me.

It depends. Usually feels bad because I just waited 5 minutes to finally start playing and I'm going out soon, generally with not many BPs if I don't get to do gens or something, but other times I can see from the start if I'm going against a sweaty killer and I'll gladly get out of that match and next to the next one.

  • milkybandit69
    milkybandit69 Member Posts: 64

Honestly, as long as I dont get farmed with no bt and go down 5 meters from the hook, I don't mind. It just means 100% killer interaction and 0% slamming gens, but slamming gens is boring :/

I'd rather get tunneled all game than do gens without any chases for an easy escape. I also play killer, so I understand tunneling is rarely malicious and more a result of losing your grip on the match. It's usually an attempt to get some control back if the gens start flying.

It depends. If I'm being tunneld by a killer that can be looped it can be fun as long as I can make it to a pallet or decent window after getting unhooked.

Whereas if I'm getting tunneld by a good killer playing Blight, Nurse or Spirit where even DS doesn't matter so much it can be very boring since I'm likely going to die quickly.

However most times I find it funny when a killer is tunneling me. Just the fact that they want me dead so badly, it's really funny to me. If I can loop them for a few gens, I'm happy. I don't care if they facecamp me either as long as the team is genrushing.

  • SaltyNooty
    SaltyNooty Member Posts: 276

Honestly? I hold high respect in my ability to stealth and never be noticed throughout the entire game so whenever I get found, i'm not too upset or surprised at it, hell even my ability to Loop although I need to polish it a little more before I can confidently say it with my chest. Even when I screw up on a gen or something. I'll also go for saves when I can and make sure I take Aggro for the person I just saved if it's not safe. Least to say, I get pretty miffed whenever the killer tunnels, camps, slugs or anything near that level without reason and I'm talking like, Start of the match outright camping/tunneling for no reason at all and then says 'Had to secure a kill, stay mad, stay bad' type BS. That's just an unnecessary amount of BS and toxicity for like, no reason at all.

Whenever the killer has an actual reason to Tunnel, Camp or Slug such as no hooks or even sacrifices and the game is almost over; i don't get mad it cause in the end, it's a game and you gotta do what you gotta do but it's those scummy, no-brain, stooping low crappy killers that get me when they decide to pull off toxic stuff for no reason and then complain about it when they get backfire or dare to say GG when they know that game pissed off everyone and their mother.

In the end, Tunneling or anything following it doesn't really bother me because if there's anything i've learned from DBD; it's not the unnecessary amount of toxicity, it's to let it go and move on because the killer had to do what he/she/it had to do.

This, i agree with. If you're tunneling and camping from the VERY start like 5 - 4 gens, it's an intentional cause that done to piss people off. If it's done from gen 3 , it's understandable since you might not have gotten a kill yet and Gen are popping fast. As for anything below it, if you get tunneled or camped/slugged at around gen 2, ya can't really complain about it since the killer has to do something.

If the survivors share hook states, the Killer's best move is to identify the weakest one and hook them repeatedly -- so I think it would make killers tunnel more rather than less.

  • Junylar
    Junylar Member Posts: 2,005

Killers look for the weakest survivor now as it is, but with shared hook the tunneled survivor won't die too early, so it will have a less devastating effect. Having 4 survivors on dead hook is not as bad as having 3 survivors. Moreover, it will make the teammates think about taking protection hits more to extend this 12-hook farm as long as they can.

  • RenRen
    RenRen Member Posts: 1,443

It depends. Is it a situation of it they don't they're going to lose? If so then I can understand. Is it a situation where they are tunneling right at the beginning? Then yeah I'll be mad. Is it a matter of i just looped then for a long time and they want to kill only me? Then in that case I feel a bit bad and proud.

  • Sadsnacks
    Sadsnacks Member Posts: 677

I get why some killers might do it at high mmr or high level gameplay or whatever. If youre playing against a diehard team of toxic survivors then yeah it makes sense but more often than not i see crappy killers do it and they use forums like this to validate it. Like people who suck at playing killer are hearing from killers who play at high mmr that you have to tunnel and camp when the high mmr killer is talking about THEIR lobbies, not a lobby of rank 9-20 solo survivors, which is what most of this killers end up against. Then they cry even harder when the bad strategy that gets them to purple and lower starts to blow up in their face miserably and reinforces the idea further that they must tunnel and camp to stand a chance.

Is it a legit strategy? In high mmr in certain situations, yeah. Against a bunch of green to grey solos, its just easy mode.

Its gross to see in solo because the killer thinks that kills equates to skill even if its just by using a lame busted mechanic in the game. I usually bring bt especially in solo because you see soooooo many campers and tunnelers in solo.

More often than not its a ghostface too for some reason.

It's a win if more than 2 survivors escape, and I don't care if I'm one of them.

  • unluckycombo
    unluckycombo Member Posts: 582

Depends on the scenario. If I just ran a baby Hag or Bubba for like 4 gens, then I'm chill with it, because I get it. Same on if the Killer is struggling to get downs all game, hooks me when 3 gens are about to be popped, hooks me during EGC, or my teammate is chasing them around hook/farms me. (The last one being annoying, but not something I'll fault the Killer for- they can't control my teammates just like I can't.) Heck, even when the Killer comes back to hook (Especially at basement or something) I might be a little annoyed, but I get it.

The only time tunneling and camping really annoy me is when you mix it with a Killer that is already doing really well, and it feels like salt is being added to the wound. When you know your team isn't doing well because the Killer does a good job at ending chases quickly, but then they decide to tunnel when they already have a ton of map pressure, I get a bit frustrated with it, since it becomes a situation where it feels unnecessary and I know me and the other Survivors won't be getting many points. Extra points of 'Just... Why?' Get added on to the mix when they also have great add-ons and a really harsh slowdown build. Or NOED with a slug for the 4k.

Idk, I 100% get the need for Killers to tunnel (I've had to do it, and I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone that hasn't, so I do think it's a necessary evil) but at the same time, it feels a lot more like the sort of thing where it can easily just feel like absolute overkill, which just doesn't really feel great.

With these queue times? I get frustrated as heck, bruh. Wait 3-5 minutes into a 1 minute timer because one survivor is always busy, and then the game loads almost as long as the queue only to get a bad spawn and downed less than a minute into the game.

No idea how people can tolerate these long queues just to play a role that is supposedly weaker than the role with all the iconic characters and unique game play elements.

Absolutely. They certainly aren't wrong. I guess I am lucky that everyone queueing doesn't feel the same. I do not mind 3 second queues as my preferred role. But doing the daily almost seems to be a net loss. Not sure the bonus 300 experience is even worth it given I could probably get more than that just sticking with killer. Lol.

It's annoying, certainly, but at least it's not camping. If I can get to loop the killer, it's usually pretty much fine.

If the killer goes after me after I've been unhooked two seconds after I've been hooked, I get big mad, but at the unhooker. Dumb unhooks are the best way to lose games.

  • Red_Beard
    Red_Beard Member Posts: 550

If it happens after I was healed or if I was the only one the killer could find, I don’t mind. I also get it when the gens are almost done and the killer hasn’t killed anyone yet.

If it is a killer that immediately goes after me right after unhook when they have other targets and lots of game left, I get annoyed. I never used to run DS before the latest nerf. After the nerf I experienced an increase in tunneling immediately off hook. DS is almost always in may build now.

I never click or teabag either and I'd say in 95% of games the killer tunnels.

It's just frustrating. As a solo player, you have to rely on your teammates to have any chance of playing in those situations. Most people are bad at the game and play selfishly, so when killers choose to end the game for that person, it's usually over.
