Does Plaything Synergize with Blindness?
I’m thinking that running Hex Third Seal with Hex Plaything could become pretty annoying to survivors, as long as the Blindness effect makes it so survivors can’t see the aura of the Plaything totem. If so, you can potentially have a survivor on maps like RPD Oblivious all game. Pig with the blind addon for her traps will be very fun to run this build with.

The survivor gets to see where the plaything totem spawns? That’s dumb and makes it instantly terrible.
But yes it could be interesting to have a bunch of blind and oblivious survivors running around an indoor map. Won’t help against SWF though so it would mainly be to mess with solo Q teams.

Even with SWF, if you slap Blindness on all survivors pretty quickly - they’ll have trouble on RPD. Unfortunately there’s also tons of maps where this build would be bad such as Shelter Woods.

They see where their own personal totem is when within 16m of it, and for the first 90 seconds of being cursed only that survivor can cleanse it, as far as I understand.

I'd imagine so, I think blindness affects the aura reading from counterforce. I'm also interested if/how it synergises with undying

If it’s a sweaty meta SWF you are liable to get totally rolled by sending yourself to RPD unless you are playing a top tier killer.
Especially with this build which would be neat but still suboptimal compared to a stack of gen perks

It’s not about being meta or optimal though. It’s about having fun with a unique build.

I know third seal doesn't work with killer objects like jigsaw boxes or purification fountains, but I don't see why it wouldn't work with plaything unless the devs specifically went out of their way to not make it work. Just be careful not to take any other hex perks otherwise you'll run out of totems.

They only see the totem when within 16m of it. Same range as Knock Out

They see the specific totem that needs to be cleansed so they lose the debuff. NOT having them able to see it would be terrible.
On that note: has anyone tested what happens when there's no totem left that it can jump to?

I guess. My experience at rank 1 is typically all gens are done within ~4-5 minutes if you don’t have any slowdown.
I don’t have fun when 3 gens pop in 2 minutes and I’m stuck with lousy perks chasing a BT/DS/DH/Unbreakable survivor around a ton of god pallets on a huge map

While that is true, for me it gets boring always running the same meta perk combos on Spirit. I like playing different killers, perks and add-ons

I would hope the blindness would stop them from seeing the totem aura. It could actually be a strong build, what you're suggesting.

And the extra effect of the Hex not able to be cleansed by anyone other than the cursed survivor makes it pretty nice.

jig boxes and plague fountains are highlighted in white, Plaything is a standard Detective's Hunch/Map reveal ain't it? If so, blindness should work with Plaything.

Blindness blocks totem aura reading from maps and counterforce, so I see no reason why it wouldn't block Hex:Plaything.
Honestly not sure the combo is really worth it, because survivors are bound to find some lit totems even on maps like RPD when all of them are lit since even indoor maps have some obvious spawns.

If a good team realizes you have it, they will probably start doing dull totems and you might not actually get all 4 activations. Another reason it will probably be a bad perk to take into SWFs.
Im curious how it would do with Hex Undying, since that protects your dull totems a little bit and would mean the first survivor might have to do 2 of them to not be oblivious all game. Some other people have mentioned retribution which sounds decent too; but I think it just ends up being another medicore niche perk.

I think the best perk combo with it will be Retribution, because it's currently the only perk that will generate hex totems for you to get Retribution aura reading off of allowing to run other perks instead of a dedicated hex build.
It'll be a fun combo to use on someone like Myers who can instant down survivors.

I mean Myers doesn’t need it really, he can get to 8m with monitor and abuse for only 1 slot and it can’t be cleansed. The biggest drawback to that was object users having perma wallhacks on you but that’s been nerfed (thank the entity).
I think Bubba is actually the best stealth perk user; if he closes the gap on you it’s super brutal as the survivor and has way less counterplay than if Billy closes the gap on you.

T3 Myers has 24 with M/A so it'll still be useful. But the concept is having the ability to instant down and getting free aura reading on totem cleanses due to Plaything creating hexes, survivors getting an aura for their hex, and retribution triggering on other hex totem cleanses.

They can see it within a short range I believe it's 16 meters but maybe it was 24 at tier 1. Also keep in mind this perk can activate once on each survivor. So you hook a survivor and a totem lights up which oniy they can cleanse for the first 90 seconds. It's basically a time waster perk. It forces each survivor to run around and break their totem after being hooked.

Sure but that’s not guaranteed to happen consistently enough to justify running it IMO. He gets 3-4 tier 3s I think? So you have a pretty limited window to find someone, pop tier 3, down them, hook them, and then find someone oblivious because of the totem. Otherwise monitor would have been better.
With retribution too maybe that changes something and it’s a bit better but there’s nothing stopping them from just cleansing your dull totems if they realize what build you have.
Also, spine chill exists. I could probably be permanently oblivious every match and still do fine solely because of that perk.

It definitely doesn’t force anything. Similar to survivors not bothering to heal, I’m sure plenty of experienced loopers won’t mind being oblivious.
It’s only really threatening on indoor maps. If I’m oblivious on a map like Coldwind im just going to sit on gens with Sprint Burst and Spine chill and not care in the slightest.

You are too focused on the oblivious status effect when the combo is about aura reading. There is always the risk that dulls get cleansed before you get everyone hooked, but pretty much every hex combo is at the mercy of getting lucky.
I just don't see trying to defend dulls or trying to keep the plaything hexes up as being the most worthwhile way to use Hex: Plaything. It's value comes from getting survivors to cleanse totems.

So why wouldn’t you just use an actual totem build for that? Retribution with 1 shots from haunted sounds a lot better than retribution to….maybe sneak up on a survivor?
A few rounds of aura reading sounds pretty meh for 2 perk slots; there’s other extremely strong tracking perks to use that will work all game.
0 -
No, no. Retribution can work with Plaything as an added bonus, because survivors will be forced to cleanse hexes or they will stay Oblivious.
The better hex to run is Third Seal (or add-ons that cause Blindness) to make it more difficult to find those Plaything totems.
Yes, a SWF can call these out but only the cursed survivor can cleanse their corresponding totem for the first 90 seconds of activation. That’s buying the killer time while they get the equivalent of being Undetectable for that affected survivor.

Plaything is a very combo heavy perk.
It works well with all hexes:
- alone it is a good time waster since survs have to do 4 totems
- with retribution you get a nice aura read every time a Totem is broken so as long as retribution is up you can get up to 5 aura reads
-pair it with thrill of the hunt and they wont you hear arriving but you know where they are and sneak up
-pair it with haunted ground to let them do totems (after the 90 secs survs start to cleanse totems even if they have no aura of it), additionally if haunted is broken the 4th Totem will be free for plaything Nr 4
- 3rd seal will not show any Totem aura to survs
-undying will refresh and protect plaything one time
-all other hexes: hide your important Totem like devour hope under a mass of glowing totems

All great ideas, Michi.
I’m looking forward to using Plaything and Thrill with Mint Rag Hag and Mother/Daughter Ring Spirit.
